  • Does the Job
I have used an API gear hoist for close to 20 years to lift my gun into my treestand. Recently I wanted to get another gear hoist to lift my gear back into my treestand. I saw this one and decided to give it a try. The unit is small and fits nicely in a pocket of your pants. The belt clip is nice to connect to your pants or belt as you climb. The material seems to be of a quality build that will not break, tear fray. Also, the rubber coating on the carabiner clip is a nice touch to not have gear slip or damage whatever it is hooked to. I will note, the tether line is much narrower than what I have used for years. I am used to a wide material that fits nicely in your hand when raising and lowering. This is a much narrower tether line and, if not careful, can give you a rope burn as your gears slides when lowering it. It also seems to want to twist more than the wider teather I have used for years. Lastly, the winding function is nice and the handle folds away neatly and does not snag on anything. Comparatively speaking, the winding function does have more noise than the API when winding up the teather. Overall, this does exactly what I needed it to do. I now carry this in addition to my API to hoist my gear bag into my treestand. I have not used it to host a gun yet but I am sure it would do just fine. ... show more

  • It Doesn't Look Like it Will Hoist 60 Lbs.
Since I am a senior and can't climb into a tree stand to check the lifting power of this gear hoist myself, my son said he will try it out the next time he goes hunting in a stand. It doesn't look like it will hoist 60 lbs., but I don't know for sure. Therefore, I will update this item later.

  • It works, and it’s not terrible. But has its drawbacks
First of all I can’t knock it too bad, it’s cheap and it does the job it’s supposed to do. So if you’re looking for a low cost option this works. However the issues I’ve encountered in my first couple uses is a breeze can blow the ribbon around and cause it to get tangled around your steps, branches, etc. also if you live anywhere where there are sticker bushes or vines or anything nasty (I.e. Texas) the ribbon wil also stick to anything remotely pokey and tangles up very quickly. ... show more

  • Useful
This hoist will come in handy when lowering my backpack from the stand, but I'm not sure how confident I am in its hoisting capabilities. I believe the webbing can easily handle the advertised 60 lb capacity, but I don't believe the mechanics of the hoist/reel are up to that level. I tested it out on a 20 lb jug of cat litter and it didn't budge. It's a great idea, and like I said, I'll use it for my backpack, but I don't trust it enough to use it with my rifle or bow. ... show more

  • Small Carabiner but Mostly Works
The carabiner is too small to go around a hunting backback's carrying loop. It'll go around the hook loop, which isn't as strong. A larger carabiner removes this issue. It holds the weight of the pack nicely and winds up well. If too heavy, the load will pull the line out even with the handle down so watch the weight. ... show more

  • handy
I use this in my hang on stand at my hunting club. I use climbing sticks to get up the tree, so carrying a rifle on a sling up the tree just really isnt an option because of the precarious nature of climbing sticks. This is nice because I can reel it in and store it without it tangling up into a rats next when carrying it in and out, or when up in the tree. Just dont try to use the reel part to "reel in" whatever it is youre trying to lift. Its not really built for that. ... show more

  • Very handy little gadget
This is great to use to lift your hunting gear up to your tree stand safely. It has a fairly durable tape shaped cord that rolls up and lets out easily. Fits in the pocket of my hunting coat easily and has a loop where you could attach a lanyard.
