  • Great value.
Style: Edge Mondo Saddle Hunting Combo
I am so far very impressed. I needed an affordable saddle and it is so overwhelming trying to get into saddle hunting. At first the harness combo weirded me out. However, i kind of like it, and once you’re up in a tree the straps from that part barely touch you so they don’t get in the way. I have no other saddle experience to compare this to but it seems comfortable to me. The buckles are metal, is that a problem? Doesn’t appear so. You’re not putting on or taking it off when a deer is close and so far I have not noticed gear banging on them making noise. Platform is lightweight but feels safe and secure. Again, i don’t have other experience with products to compare it to. But it seems perfectly fine. Strap it comes with is solid and easy to operate. The platform has cutouts that make DIY cary options easy to figure out. The ropes it comes with work great but they may be my biggest complaint. I have never used any other brand/product so take this worth a grain of salt. However, it seems the ropes are really thick. They are hard to stash and a bit bulky. I am comparing this to what I can see on the videos i have watched of other products. Now, this kind of makes me glad because it seems to mean they are stronger ropes. But they are kind of bullky and difficult to stash quickly in dump pouches. They like to push themselves out because they don’t stay coiled very well. One other point: i was new to this so maybe i am misunderstanding but aren’t there supposed to be separate loops foe your bridge and your lineman’s belt? There are the main big loops which i use my bridge for. At first i used it for both but realized in videos other saddles have separate loops for linemans belts. There are two small tan loops right at the end of the molle, one on each side. Are those the linemans belt loops? If so, they are not very obvious and seem less safe than the bridge loops. But take this worth a grain of salt also because I simply don’t know and could be misunderstanding. I am happy with this purchase and would recommend it to other guys looking for a budget friendly option. I have to other experience to compare it to but so far feel great about it. ... show more

  • Very comfortable saddle kit
Style: Edge Mondo Saddle Hunting Combo
The mondo saddle is comfortable and seems to be well made. The ropes are adequate but the presik knots need to be dressed and manipulated the first few times under weight. The carabiners are great with an auto lock spring loaded turn buckle. Everything has weight and KN ratings labeled. The edge platform is very nice and stable. Downsides are your teather, bridge and linesman are all identical. Makes you think real hard as to which you have in your hand or are undoing. Wish the carabiners or ropes had different colors. I may add colored electrical tape to the carabiners. The bridge straps on the harness are not textured so you can't fine tune the pressure points except for teather and bridge angles. The edge platform has two odd metal prongs on the front that love to catch loose straps or ropes so be mindful. I wish the instructions indicated what they were for, maybe to wrap some paracord around them? It seems to be a good value but will probably change some things around a bit. Definitely grab a pair of Molly drop pouches for your lines/gear. I really do appreciate the shoulder straps and the quick release buckles. The buckles remind me of the seat belts in a Cessna 406. Good value, just add climbing sticks and a small backpack and you are ready to go. I practiced a few shots into a bag target using and was pleasantly surprised with the maneuverability this system offers over a fixed stand. ... show more

  • Well built
Style: Edge Mondo Saddle Hunting Combo
Great saddle, bought this last year to try saddle hunting and this kit has everything you need to get started. Comfortable saddle and solid platform (not the lightest). Secures you to the tree as high as your sticks let you climb

  • Decent starter rig - I'll eventually mod up to a higher priced unit with better featur
Style: Edge Mondo Saddle Hunting Combo
I'm now hunting my second year with this rig. This is my first harness and platform and overall I'm happy with my purchase. Bottom line upfront: Pros: * stand is easy to attach and locks into the tree well * the harness secures well to the ropes and I feel safe in this rig - the ropes and straps fit well and it is comfortable to wear into the hunt * the ropes and carabiners seem to be of good quality with locks * the harness and ropes can be incorporated into existing tree stands or in trees that have branches - if I want to face the opposite direction of an existing stand I go up, hang my top safety rope and orient myself 90 degrees to the old stand with a view to the back 180 - also, on trees that have lots of horizontal branches, you can ascend and use one of the horizontal branches as your platform, in this way, and by using a few foot pegs, I'm able to have many stands for just the cost of a few screw in foot pegs * with this system you get to try out new hunting spots that are "too much work" for regular stands and foot pegs - if I want to try a hunting spot, I put up this rig and hunt and if no success or I don't like it I move to a new spot - locations that turn out to be productive get foot pegs and a wood platform and I come back to those semi-permanent stands with my harness - in this way I'm able to develop new stands and only put resources into productive locations * weight of the platform isn't too bad - I usually strap it to the outside of my backpack - I put the harness on at the car and wear it to the hunt Cons: * harness is not comfortable - I find that it digs into my back on both sides at the top horizontal rope - I'm considering adding some foam or putting a wood spacer to keep the ropes from cutting into my kidneys - I usually sit for 1/2 hour in one position, shift weight to one foot for 15 mins, then to the other for 15 mins, and then at the second hour, slowly move to a different position (vertical to diagonal or diagonal to vertical) * the stand is not quiet - the metal strap bracket ALWAYS bangs the platform when setting up - be sure too put some camo tape on the bracket * same for the carabiners - they are always clacking - put a layer of camo tape on them To consider: * I would not recommend setting this rig up on a morning hunt until you are very experienced with this rig - you really need to be able to see and be safe. Instead, go out early afternoon, set it up, do an afternoon hunt, and then come back and hunt the same location the next morning or a later morning. If you do plan to set up at night, consider a red head lamp. If you accidentally lock your carabiner to your backpack strap or to the shoulder strap of this rig it could be very dangerous if you fall. In time you'll learn to do everything by feel but at first, consider setting up in daylight and use a red head lamp to descend. Safety first, nothing is worth spending the rest of your life in a wheel chair. In the end I'm happy with my purchase and I'd buy it again. I will likely add a new (more comfortable) harness or else make modifications to this one. ... show more
