Don’t understand how this is in the market. When trying to turn it on, it only works intermittently. The ENTIRE plate gets hot- anything black becomes dangerous to touch. Yes- even the sides where the pot/pan is not meant to go. This threatens to let the cord. The temperature control isn’t accurate, and when I recurved one of the knobs was broken off. Cooking made easy! Well made! Temperature/heat up is amazing! This is an add on to our kitchen gadget, been a while that have look for a good options, tried at least 3 brand/model, finally settled with this! Cooking is similar with a normal stove, where all of the available portable stove is kind of similar with the base plate size, this have a dual (2) glass plate look/made, it is a 7” in diameter.. On a standpoint of using a big casserole or even a wok, may required some hand support through handle of your kitchenware if you are going to do some mixing since the plate is just nice to have it sit, on the other-hand this particular model is by far the best and sturdy, advantage is good grip and balance rubber feet, and also the width have an advantage of being a little wide (L 19 3/4”; W 13”). Temp controller is smooth to control and heat up as desired/quick.. Cleaning is also very easy to maintain. The picture uploaded showing after even multiple times of used. Yes, I normally put back the plastic on the plate for add on protection since used is occasional (Personal as making sure it is COOLED before doing so), after cleaning with a little moist dump cloth or paper towel, dry it up and let it sit for more air dry.. I like this hot plate very much. I was searching for an infrared portable hot plate. I would prefer one of the burners to be larger. I would also prefer to have a light showing when either burner is turned on. It is too easy to forget to turn a burner off. Each burner light is only on while the burner is heating up and goes off when the temperature is reached. ... show more

I bought this hot plate for soldering printed circuit boards (SMD reflow soldering with solder paste). I was concerned about whether or not it would get hot enough since there were no temperatures mentioned in the description but I am happy to report that when fully ON, the temperature reached just over 500 degrees C. Most PCB refolw temps require around 230 degrees Celcius at the peak of the profile so this hot plate is way more than enough to do the job. The #4 position on the control knob runs between 200 and 240 C. The T-stat turns on at about 200 C, then turns off at about 240 C. I will make a microcontrolled On/Off control setup using a 20 amp relay so I can control the soak/reflow profile with a more even temperature. The cast iron plate was glowing cherry red at full on and most of the heat is in the center 2/3 portion which is not ideal so I will make a round 1/4" thick aluminum disc about 9" in diameter so the heat will be more even (since heat spreads quickly through aluminum), However, I may use 1/8" aluminum so it will cool down quicker. I will also try adding some spacers between the plate and the aluminum to provide a little bit of an air gap between the plate and the aluminum, that should help with keeping the temps more even. The last thing is to add a "K" type thermocouple as a probe to be used with my temp gun so I can keep an eye on the actual temps. ... show more

it melted down ate the first 7 minutes of it's first use, according to my kitchen timer. had i not been right there to unplug it, it could have easily started a kitchen fire when the plastic frame ignited (it was smoking on the verge of a flame when i caught it). had it burst into flames the wooden kitchen cabinets above it could have easily caught fire (most kitchen counters have wooden cabinets above them). ... show more
