Great little violin for beginner student. Our 5 yr old granddaughter is having fun learning to fiddle on it.

  • Cremona SV-75 Premier Novice Violin, 1/8 Size
Size: 1/8 Style: Traditional Brown
This nice Cremona SV-75 Premier Novice Violin, 1/8 Size, is hand-carved in solid Spruce and its top, neck, back and sides are hand-carved in solid Maple. The purfling is painted and its finish is a warm brown finish, exactly as shown on the picture. It also has dyed Rosewood fingerboard and fittings, as well as dyed hardwood chinrest VP-61 tailpiece with 4 built-in fine tuners. It comes in a beautiful featherweight arched-top shaped hard case with blue exterior and light grey velvet interior. On the outside, there is a pocket to store music sheets (if you fold them) or house keys, nothing too bulky but very practical. Inside the case, you will find a VP-71 bow: wood stick rosewood frog and unbleached horsehair C-3907. Strings have a limited lifetime. Apart from obvious things, such as the winding of a string coming undone from wear, players generally change a string when it no longer plays true, losing the desired tone. String longevity depends on string quality and playing intensity. You are provided with those on the violin, but no extra strings. You also have Rosin provided. Players of bowed string instruments rub cakes or blocks of rosin on their bow hair so it can grip the strings and make them speak. Lighter rosin is used for violins, darker for cellos, special type for basses. Violin rosin can be applied to the underside of bridges in other musical instruments, such as the Banjo and Banjolele, in order to prevent the bridge from moving during vigorous playing. The violon is exactly as shown on the picture, every piece is where it is supposed to be. The only exception is that you have to install the bridge yourself (and it is like that to make sure that nothing will be broken during the shipping process) and tune it afterwards. Product Dimensions: 17 x 6 x 2.8 inches Shipping Weight: 8.8 ounces ASIN: B0026IC6XI Item model number: SV-75 1/8 Children typically use smaller string instruments than adults. Violins are made in so-called fractional sizes for young students: Apart from full-size (4/4) violins, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/10, 1/16, 1/32 and even 1/64-sized instruments exist, although these smaller sizes are highly unusual and usually custom-made. Extremely small sizes were developed, along with the Suzuki program, for violin students as young as 3. Finely made fractional sized violins, especially smaller than 1/2 size, are extremely rare or non-existent. These fractional sizes have nothing to do with the actual dimensions of an instrument; in other words, a 3/4-sized instrument is not three-quarters the length of a full size instrument. The body length (not including the neck) of a full-size, or 4/4, violin is about 14 inches (35 cm), smaller in some 17th century models. A 3/4 violin is about 13 inches (33 cm), and a 1/2 size is approximately 12 inches (30 cm). With the violin's closest family member, the viola, size is specified as body length in inches or centimeters rather than fractional sizes. A full-size viola averages 16 inches (40 cm). Occasionally, an adult with a small frame may use a so-called 7/8 size violin instead of a full-size instrument. Sometimes called a lady's violin, these instruments are slightly shorter than a full size violin, but tend to be high-quality instruments capable of producing a sound that is comparable to that of fine full size violins. THIS VIOLIN IS PERFECT FOR A YOUNG CHILD WANTING TO START LEARNING, WHO IS STILL GROWING FAST AND WILL HAVE TO CHANGE SIZE IN A MATTER OF 6, 12 OR 18 MONTHS. I AM QUITE SATISFIED WITH THIS VIOLIN OF A SOMEWHAT LOWER QUALITY. IT IS PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS NEEDING A RUGGED VIOLIN, AND WHOSE RUDIMENTARY TECHNIQUE DOES NOT JUSTIFY THE EXPENSE OF A MORE CAREFULLY MADE ONE (SINCE YOU NEED SOME TIME TO SEE IF THE STUDENT WILL WANT TO CONTINUE PLAYING, LIKES IT, ETC.) AT WHICH TIME, ONCE THE CHILD HAS FULLY GROWN, YOU INVEST IN A FULL SIZE EXCELLENT QUALITY ONE. I RECOMMEND THIS VIOLIN TO ALL PARENTS WHO HAVE A SMALLER BUDGET BUT WANT TO PROVIDE THEIR CHILD WITH THE GIFT OF LEARNING MUSIC. ... show more

  • I'm not really the least bit qualified to write a review on this
Size: 4/4 Style: Sparkling Blue
I'll start with the only negative: Made in China. Okay, we've got that out of the way. This is not a Stradivarius and no one would expect so. I still have yet to even try and play it. It looks okay, bright blue, mine is. So far, I bought better quality (French?) rosin, a shoulder rest and a recommended electronic tuner. I think I have it tuned. I'm doing an online course, so I don't have a teacher's input. I'm all set for my concerto debut which will be the traditional number, Twinkle, twinkle little something or other. I'm 60 I'll, I'm too old to just now start learning violin. Well, not really. There is no age to learn something new. I could get into a cheesy story about my wife and the wonderful gesture I made, but we'll skip that. So I'm gonna learn to play this thing. I may just be the next Charlie Daniels 😎. Anyway, I kinda doubt if you are an adult, buying this for your child to take violin lessons, their teacher is going to suggest you return it, unless A. They know someone (if so, find another violin teacher, you don't need to participate in a good ol boys or girls club if you get my drift) or B. If they are some kind of snob (maybe a different teacher, or maybe a snob is just what your future violinist needs to get into Julliard). One complaint, although I'm a slight snob; some of the hairs on my bow were broken. Not enough to worry about, especially with my skill level, but I already plan for a carbon fiber now. And better strings. Even though I have yet to play a note. I think you'll be okay with this purchase. No guarantees. I only gave it 3 ⭐'s because I have no idea how good it is. ... show more

  • Violin Shaped Object
Size: 1/4 Style: Traditional Brown
We spent so much time trying to get this violin to make any kind of sound with the bow. We spent forever tuning it. The pegs wouldn't hold well. You have to push them in while turning to get the strings to stay tuned. Even a micro-fraction of a turn can change the sound by several notes. We rosin'ed the heck out of the bow. We even tried another rosin. We tried various levels of tightening on the bow strings. The bridge had moved out of place badly during shipping, so we had to adjust that and get it back into place. We got a couple strings to make a somewhat musical sound, but one of them wouldn't even screech. Maybe someone with lots of experience can make music with this violin shaped object, but I would not recommend this for a beginner. Big struggle, no reward. I was disappointed as I'd read that Cremona was a nice brand. We returned this one, and went to the local music store where we purchased a 1/4 violin for $40 more than this one that came with a really nice case, a shoulder rest, nice rosin, and my 6 year old was able to make a really good sound on it with zero effort. Do yourself a favor and buy instruments in person if you can. And probably don't get this one if you have to buy online. ... show more
