I bought this as a first time violin student, looking for an electric violin so I could practice a bit quieter. Out of the box, everything was in great shape, no dents or cracks in the finish. Once I got it in tune and the bow rosined, I was so pleased to hear the first tones from the open strings. It is loud enough for me to hear, but beyond a closed door the volume is reduced significantly. I next tried out the electric bits on my own amplifier and was greatly satisfied with the sound levels and tone of the pickups. I am happy with the purchase and have only one disappointment. The violin case seems to be made for a smaller violin. The bow will not fit or lock bow in place unless a rubber band is used. I purchased the 4/4 model electric violin and the bow is much to large for the case. The string tone is great and the accessories that come with the violin are top notch. The violin tunes well and pegs have no slippage. The fine tuners are a great addition. The violin is light and is a joy to practice on. The nice thing about the violin is it can be played acoustically or through an amp. It can be played “silently” so as to not annoy neighbors. What is meant by ‘silently” is that the notes are muted down but you can still hear them and enjoy without bothering those in other rooms or neighbors. I highly recommend. ... show more

I bought this for a Xmas present and we are outside the return window and I didn’t try it out obviously since it was a gift. The pegs do not stick. It is extremely difficult to tune this violin. I just broke a string after working 30 minutes to tune it for the 12-15th time in the past few days. Even if you get it to stay for a minute the pegs loosen again. Overnight the strings lost all tightness. A total waste of money. ... show more

All Violins are not created equal obviously. This one is no exception. If you are looking for a Stradivarius for the Symphony I'd move on. If you are looking for one to learn on that is somewhat quieter or an electric one to gig with so the good one can stay at home this fits the bill perfectly. It includes all the accessories that are required for an acoustic violin as well as a decent case to hold everything. If you go to buy rosin, a shoulder rest, extra strings and a clip on tuner that can easily hit $50. If you are into recording the pickup is good fir that as well so you don't need to buy an additional microphone. Appearance wise it looks wonderful and the photos don't do it justice. The headphones aren't the greatest but I look at them as being free with the rest of the outfit and are perfect for learning. I'll get pictures and a video up once the skill level improves. Violin is yellow, not red-sunburst, but I don't mind the color. Violin has good set-up of the bridge and the pick-up. The Amp. sounds decent. However, the bow is very bad quality, defective or substandard, not as advertised. The headphone is muffled or does not work. Contacting customer services but they have given me the run-around of endless email exchanges, but the company (Pyle) has not shipped the replacements for the defective items! Waiting for them to resolve the issues. If they don't resolve, will return the package via Amazon within the 30-day limit. If they do resolve the issues, I will upgrade the review. Update: They didn't ship the replacement, but I did receive some credit for the defective accessories. I did not return the package. That company could have made the customer service process more friendly. Upgrade the review to 3-star (from 2-star) because the violin does sound very nice (if you use it with a better bow; you need to buy a different bow elsewhere.) ... show more

As a starter I was having problems with the violin and customer service was able to explain what need to be done to get me going. This is well built and looks really nice. I'm still learning so it will take me some time to make it sound great but when sticking the cords with my finger they sounds great. That's why I'm giving 5 stars. ... show more

The violin works fine and happy about looks and sound. But if you are looking for an Electric violin, from my experience this is not the right one. No sound produced via ports, I connected the violin to amp and no sound via headphone port as well. I replaced the batteries twice still the elctric portion is not working.
