Description
This fine Cremona violin is crafted from the finest selected tonewoods. A clear, transparent varnish highlights the straight-grained solid spruce and figured solid maple. The varnish is slightly shaded to suggest the appearance of a fine, old instrument. The edgework and purfling are clean and artistic, and the scroll is beautifully cut. The fingerboard and trimmings are genuine ebony and the violin is given a professional set-up before is leaves our west coast facility. The tone is smooth and pleasing with great carrying power. I am a retired 71-year old, Certified Teacher and Professional Educator exploring the opportune possibility of learning to play violin for both personal pleasure and recreational relaxation purposes that can be obtained from the learning experience as a worthwhile constructive activity. This CREMONA 4/4 VIOLIN is an excellent purchase for both the superb quality and the reasonable price. I had seen a review of its performance details and components assembly specifications on the Web, and I decided to buy it. I do not regret this purchase. I am a brand-new beginner, and I knew nothing about playing violin. The manual that accompanied this instrument, issued by CREMONA for tuning, detailing of components, the structural arrangment of parts, and the care this instrument necessitates, were awesome information for practical applications that provided me with a good starting point. I then went on the WEB to watch videos on Violin playing techniques and on general information and more specific instructions about how to play the instrument, and discovered that CREMONA's informative provisions were correctly stated, without any conflicting deviations from practical standards for performing with strings instruments belonging to the Violin category. All in all, I am very satisfied with the price, the quality, the actual performance, the practical information provided, and the fidelity of sounded notes, for resonance of authentic tuning tones, as applicable for each specific string, sums of which, corresponding exactly to the tuning accuracy obtained from, and confirmed by, both chromatic electronic tuners and mouth-operated manual pitch-pipes. In sum, I would recommend this SV-500 CREMONA 4/4 Violin, without any dissimulation or pretense, as to its genuine excellent quality and true fidelity to authentic violin sounds, as well as, for its reflection of true tonality of musical notes when it's properly tuned for actual performance. If I may, I would like to suggest some needed improvements on ROSIN constitution and consistency, for achieving a greater degree of "clinging granulation" that would increase the degree of adhesion to the bow's hairs when the ROSIN is being applied. I found the ROSIN a little too dry and too hard, which makes it difficult, not only for residual fine-powdery granulation, but also, harder to gauge how much pressure is to be applied to the bow, when its hair is making contact with the ROSIN, so as to climax into optimum ROSIN grain retention by the bow's hair. Perhaps, a moderate modification of the ROSIN's constitutional chemistry, intending a minimum degree of "mollification" of the ROSIN's substance, yet, without bringing it to a "humid consistency" or to a "pasty constitution" akin to the softness of clay, might increase both the amount of ROSIN that clings to the bow's hair after lengthy application, and the facilitation of faster adhesion of the ROSIN's finely granulated excipients, as the bow is being rubbed against its surface, in order to, in the end, minimize the time needed for achieving the optimum level of ROSIN retention by the bow's hair. I certainly thank CREMONA for its excellent quality of workmanship, reasonable pricing, and authentic string instrument tonality and genuine fidelity in resonance, during actual performance. I was looking for a step up above a beginners violin.I feel that this accomplished just that. It arrived safely, with the bridge installed. I was playing within an hour opening the box and the tone is great. I played for 10 years, but then had a 10 year hiatus and was excited to get back into it. I feel that everything came back to me very naturally and I still have a good enough ear to be able to distinguish decent quality. The violin came with D'Addario Prelude strings. I may upgrade to Dominant strings, but these actually sound pretty good. I tuned it multiple times, very slowly over the course of an hour to stretch out the new strings so I didn't snap any. They were all fine after a few tunings, except the E string was having trouble staying put. I rubbed a bit of birthday candle wax on the peg and tried again and it stuck great. I didn't expect it to stay in tune throughout its first practice, but it did! I was happy to receive a wooden bow This is my first experience with an octagonal shaped bow and I like it. It came with an Anton Breton rosin block, which isn't as bad as the typical stock rosin. Nevertheless, I upgraded to Kaplan Premium cake rosin because I feel that a good quality rosin is key to good sound. The violin itself is beautiful. It had good, flattened points. The scroll is carved deep enough into the box that I cannot see the end. I do not think it goes all the way around which denotes the best quality, but considering I can't really tell I say it passes! The wood and all the fittings appear to be good quality. There were just a couple things left to be desired. The purfling appears to be painted on rather than inlaid as it should be. I think it is completely functional regardless, as even some of the best violin makers (Testore) painted their purfling. ~EDIT: After further examination I believe the purfling is actually inlaid, as the grain of the wood is different and lighter in color.~ There is also one blemish on the center of the chin rest, which is a bit disappointing, but nothing to deter me from keeping it. The case is great. It is a rectangle shape and a brownish color with blue velvet on the inside. It had a zipper, lock&key, 2 carrying straps and 4 buttons, it is very secure! It has 4 spaces for bows, a blanket to cover the violin, and the cubby inside was big enough to fit my rosin and shoulder rest (an Everest which is great, highly recommended and 1/3 the price of a Kun). Overall, I feel that for the price, it is an excellent violin. It is not a professional grade instrument, but definitely a step up from the cheaper student violin.

When I saw this piece on Amazon I though this was kind of "meh" instrument. One of the many out there that is so hard to tell apart from the pictures. This instrument STANDS OUT high and above tons of other instruments. I have quite an experience in buying violins by now, as a parent who had to go through the process few times as the kids were growing and we needed new instruments. I know very well what the MANY music stores in my area carry and I know all there is to know about the price range. This violin at my local store would cost $2500. Because of the sound quality, because of the precision and the process and because of the wood. This is SOLID wood violin, it is beautifully crafted top bottom and inside out. If you know how complicated and tedious the violin making process is, you know how many things has to go right to end up with a beautiful instrument. If you don't... I highly recommend you to watch wonderful movie "Red Violin" that will make you cry but also will make you appreciate violins even more then you ever did. This wonderful movie shows the process of making one and then the many owners it changed through the ages. This violin feels very expensive, looks very expensive and sounds very expensive. There clearly was a lot of care put in the process of making it. It is not one of those run down the mill instruments but there is at least some of the process clearly involving hand making and the instrument has individual character unique look and feel because of the choice of the wood pieces that unlike the dry and soulless machine made violins that are made of some cheap engineered wood that feel and look like cheap plastic with some wood veneer.. this violin sets them far far far far back.. This is a violin that is good enough for a professional musician. The violin comes with a beautiful case lined with high quality velour fabric that looks like traditional fabric of the past so it perfectly fits the character of the expensive instrument. The sound is divine! I don't play violin but my kids are pro, not only they attest to the quality of instrument and the great sound you can achieve but also their teachers were mesmerized and shocked at the price sticker that was so low comparing to the quality of this instrument. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, TRY IT AND GET IT EVALUATED LOCALLY, YOU WILL SEE THAT THIS INSTRUMENT IS PRICED WELL BELOW THE ACTUAL VALUE.

I bought the violin expecting it to come out beautifully. Instead I got a reject. There were multiple issues with the violin and bow. I immediately decided to exchange it. My issues were that when I opened the case I immediately saw a weird piece of wood lying on top of the violin. It was loose and rough. I don't know where it came from. I pulled the bow out and noticed that there were hairs which were loose, and one hair wasn't even connected fully on the bow. When I tightened the hairs the loose hairs were still loose and some were overlapping other hairs. There are multiple points on the instrument that have varnish defects. However, the major issue I had with this violin was that when I held the neck with my thumb and forefinger, I immediately felt rough patches. I realized that the wood from the finger board and the bottom half of the neck had a seam I could feel. It felt like if I slid my fingers across it I may have gotten a splinter. I am extremely disappointed, but I am looking forward to the replacement. I received my replacement soon after I sent out the first violin. I had the same issues as the first violin but not as striking. There was a wood piece under the violin when I pulled it out. Hairs on the bow were loose and crossing each other. The varnish was not done well on the edge of the body. But most importantly, there was a seam where the finger board and neck meet. This would be where my thumb slides. I am extremely disappointed and I feel like I wasted my time with this product. I strongly do NOT recommend this violin due to the poor construction. Item was returned.

If i could give this product 4.5 stars i would. I purchased this instrument as a second backup/outdoor instrument to the violin i normally use for performances and i am actually quite pleased with it. A couple of gripes i have which are very, very minor: 1) the pegs do tend to slip while tuning but it's nothing a little peg dope can't do; 2) the finish on the neck looks hastily done. What i love about this instrument is that it doesn't take a long time to warm up. This particular instrument i got actually has an adequately warm sound. It doesn't sound tinny or scratchy; whenever i play above the fifth position the sound doesn't "quit" but remains resonant. It's a very well-balanced violin. From the open G to the high notes in the E string's stratosphere, everything about this violin sings. This violin is comparable to my primary violin which costs at least **cough** times more than the Cremona SV-500. The bridge height is adjusted nicely as with the height of the nut. I also love the way the fingerboard feels. Whoever set up the violin before sending it off did a very nice job. Of course, i made a few minor adjustments myself by changing the strings the violin came with. I believe it was a steel core type of string. I replaced it with Dominants which improved the sound immensely. Also, although the bow the outfit came with is a adequate, i used the bow i use with my primary instrument. As far as the rest of the outfit is concerned, i wasn't too crazy about the straps--they smelled funky and they were too short--the company provided with the case and the bow spinners are a little tricky. If you can, it might be good to purchase a different case with suspension as the case provided did not have it. As with any instrument you purchase over the internet, you take a chance with quality; so far i've lucked out with this violin. We'll see what happens in a year if this violin holds up in the humidity. If you are looking to purchase a decent student instrument and are willing to spend just a tad bit more, the Cremona SV-500 is worth looking into.

This violin set is a great value. We bought this and the the cecilio cvn-500, but it was no comparison and ended up returning the cecilio. My son was moving up from a 1/4 size Stentor Student 2, and this cremona is so much better. Even compared to the cecilio, this is a much louder violin and has a wonderful tone. We all agreed that this was hands-down better than the cecilio and it's a pleasure to listen to it. The one thing was that it didn't "ring" very much when playing a fingered "G". That's when we bought the cecilio for comparison but the tone on the cecilio wasn't in the same ballpark. We paid $25 for a soundpost adjustment at the local violin shop, and that substantially improved things on this cremona violin. edit: 11/16/2018. 2.5 yrs later, my boys are still using this, though they'll be ready for a 3/4 size shortly. The violin has held up very well. Great tone, and we've no regrets at all about this violin. It's held up very well, despite being dropped 2 or 3 times. We've just had to replace strings due to normal wear and tear. The only thing wrong has been one of the magnetic clasps on the case has popped off, and the screws that hold the bow holders to the case have started to wear out. One fell off, and another is quite loose -- I need to try some thread lock on that screw, but even if that fails, there are still 2 more bow holders before I'd need to replace any (at ~$6), and I'm sure my boys will outgrow this set before I need to worry about that. edit 2/8/2020. My boys both grew out of this by the end of last summer. At that point, 3 of the magnetic clasps for the exterior cover had fallen off. Not a big deal as the zipper is still fine, and more of an annoyance than anything else. Overall, we've been very happy with this instrument, and it's still in great shape for resale.

cannot try this item yet missing tail piece,but everything else seems to be here,some very deep scratchs on this violin made before it was finished also who ever tested bridge made very deep gouges in this violin,from what I see very badly done have too order a tailpiece just to see what it sounds like,no I'm not expecting very much out of this violin will give further update at a later time.just installed tailpiece,strings tuned it up,perfect pitch the violin even though was missing pieces holds a perfect pitch on all strings,yes notes are in perfect points on neck the intonation is perfect very surprised to the ear this violin is very good sounding pegs hold great no slip[,yes perfect pitch very glad because I'm a ear player this violin minus whoever put it together is a very good instrument will keep update.will change ratings to 4 no more than that to many problems on arrival whoever is putting this together needs a different job awfull setup.revise 12/3/15 updating this post after fixing bridge took over a month for this violin to settle sounds great play very easy soft touch for neck yes you can make it sing perfect took awhile for pegs to stay but everything works pefect now .this is a very good step up very even in sound with my g2 brunnel from kennedy violin.okay folks new update 3/19/16 put zyex strings on this new fiddlerman bow dark rosin fixed bridge,wow what difference.its perfect sound great speed perfect these strings sing with this violin you cannot go wrong with this I can now play for hours with no problems
