  • GREAT VALUE NIGHT VISION DEVICE!!
The media could not be loaded. For the money this is an awesome little product! Is it as good as my very expensive, HD, digital NV rifle scope? No. But this very lightweight, user friendly, budget night vision monocular works and serves it's purpose extremely well. Pros: -Low cost, high value! VERY budget friendly for what you get. -Great IR illuminator! Has multiple IR brightness/power settings and this thing will light up the NV screen and scene with the illuminator on low let alone on the highest setting. The IR light on this night vision monocular rivals the one that came with my much more expensive NV rifle scope. -Adjustable focus for varied distances -Can be used both day and night to record and take pics without damaging the device -Records videos, takes pics, and/or can be used to just monitor night activities in the dark -Comes with all the accessories you need to make it work (except batteries)-mini-SD card, card reader w/various plug types, USB cord, and lens cloth are all included -Has the necessary screw/stud to mount it to a camera tri-pod -Relatively intuitive and easy to use buttons to adjust IR brightness, navigate the menu, select the mode, take pics/videos, etc (practice before you go out in the dark and it's much easier) -Ran for HOURS on 5 AA batteries (weird number of batteries but, whatever, it works) -Great packaging (if you care about that) Cons: -Recorded image and picture quality is low (basically 640x480 VGA I believe) and somewhat grainy (especially in NV mode and "zoomed in") -Digital "zoom" causes Image to be VERY grainy, especially at night (most digital NV I've worked with does this though) -Does NOT have audio recording capabilities during video recording mode (reminiscent of an old B&W silent movie during playback) -Will auto-shutoff after some time of inactivity on the buttons -Buttons take some practice to navigate tactically, sight-unseen -Very small view screen is NOT an "eye-piece" type screen that you would have on a NV rifle scope or a high end PVS style NV monocular (you're not mounting this to a helmet and going full-on combat mode with it) you can't clearly view it up close and the screen is bright enough you would be one-eye-blind at night for awhile -View screen does NOT have adjustable brightness settings; it is blindingly bright upon initial boot up (intro screen is bright white w/Creative XP image/logo), and will even light you up a little in the background when it's just running in normal NV viewing mode. It wasn't bright enough to spook the wildlife (while in the blind), but I also covered up the screen with my hand every time I turned on the unit to reduce the light signature from the start-up screen. -The non-adjustable screen brightness would be my only real complaint since it will jack up your eyes at night for awhile after you look away from the screen. All in all, this is a great little digital night vision monocular/camcorder/camera. I mounted it on a tripod in the blind pointing out toward the feeder while hunting and let it run, only occasionally having to turn it back on after it went into auto-shutoff. It was much lighter and more maneuverable than my rifle with a NV scope attached so I could scan the scene without much effort or pointing my rifle at everything I wanted to see. By mounting it on a tripod, both myself and my hunting buddy could see what was moving around and coordinate the harvest/kill or just enjoy watching the racoons, possums, rabbits, deer, and pigs moving about in an otherwise invisibly dark environment. I recorded about 45 minutes of footage and took numerous pics on the included mini-sd card and never seemed to run out of space. We even got a kill-shot on video, although I wouldn't use the footage to post any pro-level hunting videos on any major social media sites. The IR Illuminator was AWESOME and lit up the feeder, fence, trees, wildlife, and even the rain coming down easily out to 50 yards (as far as my shooting lane at my hunting site goes from blind to feeder). I have no doubt that the IR will reach out much farther but I never tested it out any further in my scenario. For the money, this low cost, high value, efficient little night vision device is fantastic; it's light weight, easy to use, maneuverable, compact, and will change the way you approach night time hunting, scouting, and observation. My buddy was able to see the pigs come in BEFORE turning on his green varmint rifle light. Seeing them first before lighting them up helped us to avoid spooking the game with visible light movement (pigs supposedly don't see green light, but my experience shows they will run with shadow movement from even a green varmint light scanning the scene) and allowed my buddy to harvest his first ever pig with rudimentary night hunting equipment attached to his rifle. If you are on the fence about buying this, jump on it! It would be a great way to inexpensively supplement everything from a high-end thermal scope to the most rudimentary varmint light setups and seriously up your night hunting game with one more tool on the belt. Or, it could just be fun for the kiddos to watch what's going bump in the night in the backyard. Either way it is absolutely worth the purchase. ... show more

  • Not a bad little IR device with some drawbacks. *Updated Review*
Color: Black Pro
I originally gave this monocular 3 stars because it's functional for some things and probably not for others. However after using it almost daily for about five months and getting to know it, I had to modify my review and rating. While there are many other IR monoculars that perform better than this, I still think for the money it isn't a bad deal depending on what you are using it for. If you are looking for weapons grade stuff, this is not it. I got it for recording the skies and for that purpose, it works ok. I use this to record the skies in IR mainly to catch objects moving. I use this in conjunction with other cameras and equipment so it works for me as kind of a lower budget, secondary or tertiary camera. When I first wrote this review I felt that the resolution was not good at all. I think that I was being a little too harsh on it because I am mainly using it to look at the sky. When you use this as it is intended, the resolution is actually not that bad. Still not 4K by any means but it's definitely good enough to see details of things depending on range obviously. It does have manual focus which can be a little tricky at first but once you find the sweet spot for the range you are looking at, it works fine. It records video in 10 minute chunks which is nice for my editing purposes. I get approximately 1-1.25 of straight filming time before the battery runs out after a full charge. Again, for my uses I wish it would last longer but it's important to note that the camera will record video while it's plugged in. Once I found that out, I was recording the skies for several hours at a time. It only takes up to 32gb Micro SD cards which doesn't sound like much but you can hold approximately 40 ten minute long videos before you run out of the 32gb memory. So all in all, for my purposes, this IR monocular could be better but could also be worse. I would probably buy it again if I had to. Hope this helps! *It's now August 2022 and I have had this monocular for approximately five months. I use it almost daily and nightly to record different parts of the sky. Sometimes in IR and sometimes not. Finding the sweet spot with the manual focus is tricky (when using it to record the sky it can be) so I used a marker to put marks on the outside of the focus knob to help with that. I have had no major operational issues with camera. I am happy to say that it has functioned as advertised, even under constant recording which is great for me. Until two days ago. After a recording session with several cameras of different types, manufacturers and different prices, I retrieved my cameras to find an extreme amount of condensation only on the inside of the lens of this camera. The outside of the lens was completely clear. I brought it inside in hopes that it would simply dry out. I put near a fan, in dry area and the condensation is still there. The camera still functions but you cannot see anything due to the condensation. I reached out to Creative XP and explained my situation to them. I thought maybe I can buy another lens piece or I could send it to them so they could repair it. In the back of my mind I honestly was going to just put it in the books as a loss but I wasn't too upset as it wasn't as expensive as some of the other IR cameras and I have gotten a lot of use out out of it. To my surprise, Creative XP is sending me a brand new IR monocular. So I updated my review not only because they are giving me another monocular for free, but because after using it day in and day out, it has been a reliable little IR camera for me and my purposes. Thanks again and I hope this helps. Also, they didn't ask me to write this or anything like that. Just thinking about the use I got out of it, the money I paid and the customer service I got from it compelled me to update it. -Martin ... show more

  • great night vision, decent quality overall
the night vision itself is really good, i don't even have to go above lvl 1. the focus can be tedious but you get used to it. the downside is that the batteries run out really fast even with 5 AA's. the camera is pretty narrow, so if you don't have a tripod and try to look through it while zoomed in you probably won't see much unless your hands are real steady. my only real complaints are that charging it through the usb doesn't seem to do anything and i don't feel like buying specific rechargable batteries for it, i wish it would've came with them. and the little hood for the lens just kinda slides off and i lost it after the first week. besides that, i think it's worth it's price ... show more
