I hated building this bed. The hardware is exceptional. The quality feels amazing. The instructions are very easy to comprehend. You get to source your own wood, too! In the end though, I wound up spending an equal amount of money on this bed plus quite a bit of time building it over just buying a prebuilt! Of course, this bed is *leagues* better than anything you can find on the market because I used exceptional plywood and prime honey oak everywhere, so there's certainly that... Plus, when I lost some proprietary T nuts I couldn't find elsewhere, they shipped them to me at no charge, which is something I wholly appreciate. Okay, first off, the hardware that come with this kit is high quality. It will definitely last 30+ years. Also, the instructions are very detailed. I feel like a novice carpenter could navigate this build with ease. So, for those considering how much the wood cost would be. We spent between $700-800 on lumber. Hefty price because we went with birch plywood, which was about $85 per 0.75 inch sheet. You end up needing (4) 0.75 inch sheets, (2) 0.25 inch sheets, and about 12-15 pieces of solid wood boards. So you'll end up spending around $1,000 for the entire project at least. Not including what finish you decide to go with. Another thing to consider, for this to go smoother, make sure you have this equipment: table saw, skill saw, jigsaw, drill, drill bits, hammer, nail gun, clamps, forstner bits(very important!), and a helper (needed). My father-in-law had the saws, and helped me build most of it. My wife assisted me with the rest of it. It's well worth the time and money. High quality and very good looking. We're beyond satisfied with the result. WARNING - when installing everything into your desired location, MAKE SURE you secure the header to your wall first. We tried to secure the headboard to the studs before the header and the bed nearly snapped us (4 adults) in half. The gas pistons are no joke! ... show more

This product is excellent, sturdy and has almost impeccable directions. I had to call the company three times during the build process mainly to confirm that I was reading something correctly and they were highly responsive and helpful all three times. For the price and the quality I have zero issues. Now, if you are not someone that has at least some experience with woodworking, mechanical plans or safely mounting furniture….hire someone to install you a Murphy bed. We have an extensive garage of tools that helped make this project easier and my husband is a moderate level wood worker (very precise, but needs direction and can’t do anything super intricate). It took us about three days, 18 hours total to put together the initial build (not including planned shelves and cabinets on either side, shaker trim, priming, or painting) so the pictures uploaded look rough because we haven’t done the pretty parts yet. We were tired and sore after day 3, but we got through it! Also - just know once you move the frame, verticals and topper into the room to install it goes VERY quickly….so once you’re in the room you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! If you’re questioning whether you have the skill level or how much the additional lumber materials are going to cost, go to create a beds website where they have the detailed instructions and cut lists before you buy :). ... show more

As long as you have the needed tools to cut the wood to the desired sizes the installation goes pretty painlessly and quickly….well worth the savings of purchasing a premade cheaply made models.

These instruction booklets were solid. All I did was build two old cabinets around it and there was enough lumber leftover to cover the top and have it look built in. I don't know who still needs to read this but THERE IS NO LUMBER INCLUDED. THIS IS A KIT WITH INSTRUCTIONS AND HARDWARE TO BUILD IT YOURSELF. My cost break down was -All plywood as listed from local lumber yard in the PNW, one sided sanded birch $346 -Solid maple lumber from home depot $166 -This kit in the Full size $290 -Two boxes of screws the kit asked for $20 -2 Cabinet from fb market place, obviously optional and varies $300 -Sherwin williams duration paint bought with discount $50 Total Cost - $1172 It's not cheap but this was very customized to my liking and would have cost at least $3000 to have it built by someone else minus lumber price so I'm quite happy. All it took was a week of coming back from work to work on it and a whole weekend. Skill wise, I have built theater sets for about 3 years so am kinda in between beginner and intermediate level. Have never built anything for fancy, practical purposes but have all the tools and skills needed to use them. There was quite abit of figuring out for this one and I read from the reviews that some people did it successfully with zero experience. Bravo! The instructions were very detailed and the video was very helpful. The hardware is of very good quality. The only thing I changed was the foot cross bar. The 3/4 ×3/4 was to flimsy so I changed it to 11/2 x 3/4 solid piece of wood.
