  • Hardware: Great! Firmware Installation: Nightmare.
This is a difficult product to review. The hardware itself is fantastic. 5/5 stars. I worry that the ribbon cable from the sensor to the motherboard is a bit flimsy and hangs precariously close to the Y-motor, but some simple cable management should mitigate that. That said, the firmware implementation by Creality is just abysmal. Depending on which of Creality's three different websites I checked, I found no fewer than three different firmware editions that appeared to be correct for my Ender 3. The first two bricked the machine, to the point it wouldn't boot. The third would boot, but left the screen scrambled. As of January 1, 2023, there appears to be no official working Ender 3 firmware support for the CR Touch. I finally stumbled upon the 3D Printscape website and YouTube videos. This guy is an absolute godsend. He has diagnosed the problem with the current firmware and re-compiled a working version. If you have the scrambled screen issue, I would suggest searching for "cr touch firmware scrambled screen" and working through his library of videos on the process. Installation is not difficult at all if you can find good instructions. Unfortunately, that is somewhat out of Comgrow's hands. Comgrow can't point to a specific firmware, as Creality could upgrade firmware at any minute rendering their recommendation obsolete. To their credit, Comgrow support did try to assist with the issue. I just found 3D Printscape before they were able to solve it. Unless Creality gets their act together, successful installation is a matter of good searching skills and a bit of luck! ... show more

  • Amazing Upgrade but there's a few weird things with Install. READ FOR INSTALL NOTES
Amazing product. I fought this mod for so long but am fully sold on it. This is basically the only mod that will let you use a PEI sheet. I have tried on multiple printers before but without the auto bed level, there is just not enough bed adhesion. You will still need a flat bed, so you aren't getting out of leveling with a piece of paper, you still will do this occasionally, but I definitely recommend this mod as printing on a PEI sheet with a magnetic bed is far superior in my opionion as you get the best of both words with great adhesion and a perfectly smooth printing surface. I have 5 years experience printing with enders. Ender V2 Notes In the install, when you flash your firmware, you will get to an orangeish pinkish screen. This means the install is complete. I kind of freaked out when I saw this and didn't know what to do, I thought it messed up, but it did not. There were some differences on bed leveling, but it is very simple, just look at the home screen and you will see bed level, you are going to be lowering the nozzle in this step, I had to go over 1 mm, I believe it was about 1.6mm for reference. This is also how you can control bed adhesion. You can lower the bed level number to increase adhesion on those prints with a tiny surface area touching the bed, like lettering. ... show more

  • Great first layer every time
I bought this leveling device over the BL Touch after reading reviews and watching some Youtube videos. Installation and calibration was simple. I'm using Cura for slicing and running my Gcodes through Octoprint to an Ender 3v2. I haven't had a bad first level since I installed it. It does add approximately 5 minutes to the beginning of each print but that's a small price to pay for less failed prints. The only issue I had was the current camera holder I was using interfered with the extruder travel. I found the stl file for the arm in the photo online. ... show more

  • Does what but says, says what it does
Yes… it is a pain to find the appropriate firmware… however, physical installation was easy, and there are a bunch of good tutorials on YT. Don’t lose patience, keep working the problem. I had mine fully implemented and dialed in in about three hours.

  • It saves you a headache.
It was pretty easy and straight forward to install onto your printer. Though I do wish the instructions for the firmware was as clear cut for the auto bed leveler. As I found out through extensive trial and error.

  • Wouldnt use a fdm printer without this.
The cr touch as made bed leveling 10w easier and faster. Using just the ender 3v2's screen I was able to level a problematic bed to a tolerance of +-0.1mm. Using octopi i was able to get exact degrees to turn the wheels and was able to fine tune the bed from being newly re-installed. You will want to add some g code to your start print to habe the leveler probe your bed to counteract any remaining bed warp/leveling issues. -1 star only because it was difficult to locate the correct firmwarefor the printer and I had to look at guides on installing on YouTube to get the correct set. ... show more
