My daughter loves this! She loves to draw and color and write so I figured giving her something like this could add to her "art collection". Over the holidays she asked for "art stuff" and no one really knew what to buy her. Needless to say she received 3 art sets with crayons and markers, 2 paint sets, and 2 coloring books. I didn't think anyone would think of this and I was accurate in that assumption. The tracing pad is a board with a light underneath of the surface that illuminates the paper, allowing anyone to trace a picture. The set comes with several pages of instruments, hairstyles, scenes, and ideas for you to combine and create your own perfect drawing. It does not come with batteries so you'll need to purchase those before using it. However, if the batteries aren't working or are unavailable to you at the moment you could always use it as a drawing board. A hard, portable surface to take around with you. The light is bright enough to illuminate the entire board and my daughter absolutely loved it. This set came with musicians, instruments, sports players, sport scenery, etc. I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a "boys" set. This would make the perfect gift for any little artist out there! I remember having something similar when I was younger and it really took me back! :) ... show more

I purchased this to draw applique patterns for quilts, and it works great. I also let my grandson use it to draw when he visits.So I bought him another one for home. Heck, I enjoy tracing pictures with it too. I think any age will enjoy this light table.
