I love the shelves and that they were so easy to put together. When measuring the distance between shelves if you are using containers for storage, be sure to calculate the thickness of the shelves to size your containers. I had to buy shorter storage containers but it worked out well. They are sturdy enough, can and should be secured to a wall but also are very stable freestanding. The shelves are strong and hold the weight advertised and were a good price for what is provided. They don’t have wheels if you are looking for something that can be moved around. I ordered these shelves in order to clean up a garage closet where we had numerous suitcases & bags piled in the floor. I ultimately decided on these shelves due to the reported sturdiness, but still relatively lightweight, and ease of assembling. When it arrived, there was one small piece of the red corner broken off, but I decided to keep it anyway because it did not affect the use. My husband left for the grocery store, and by the time he got back I had already unpacked & assembled the shelves and loaded them up with the suitcases, and it looks great!! They do seem to be very sturdy and I like the depth of this particular model; even the large suitcases slide back and were flush with the shelves. ... show more

I have purchased seven (7) of these 5-tier shelves from Amazon over the past 14 months. Each time the unit came with "T" connectors for each shelf (10 connectors in total per shelving unit). These connectors connect each shelving unit to another. Unfortunately, this latest purchase only included 4 of these connectors and not the 10 connectors provided in the past. This causes the shelves to be unstable (and a safety hazard) as we use them as "free-standing" units in our garage (an option due to their modular nature) which are not bracketed to a wall. I contacted their customer service division to request the missing connectors. American Plastics responded and denied my request. However, they would send me the missing parts if I pay the FedEx shipping. I'm not happy I need to incur additional expense for parts that have been previously provided when I purchased the same product. They claim each of these shelves has a 200 pound weight capacity. That's 1,000 pounds per shelving unit. Is it too much to ask for a few pieces of plastic to secure the units together to make sure they don't tip over onto anyone? UPDATE: Today 5/24/23 I received the missing "T" connectors from American Plastics that were missing. I appreciate their response and their customer service. Thank you! ... show more

    • Advertized Dimensions Don't Really Measure Up!

While this storage rack is easy to assemble and very sturdy, the advertized dimensions are misleading in the actual space you have available to store items. Granted, I purchased this rack to store ubiquitous 27gallon "black and yellow" totes. Based on the dimensions given (40" wide x 24" deep), I should be able to store two side by side, or one long one and be able to pull it through the narrow end. Not the case - actual "usable" dimensions, due to the posts is 33" wide x 19.5" deep at the posts. The distance between shelves is 14.5", so not all black and yellow totes will fit there either. Of course, two totes fit perfectly on the top shelf - I just wish that was the case for the rest of the shelves. Just be aware and measure your totes! ... show more
