  • Great tool kit
Great kit to keep in the truck. Great quality, love the gunmetal finish, I’ll have it for years.

  • great starter set of basic tools
nice assortment of tools in a blow-molded case. they're finished in a "dark chrome" that's attractive, with laser-markings that are easy to read.

  • Premium price gets you non-slip socket & wrench technology.
If you have a concern that your regular 6 point sockets and wrenches will round over stubborn fasteners, this set can be a good choice. I see a typical polished chrome finish with nothing outstanding about it that it should be referred to as a gunmetal finish. What I disliked right away was how flipping the levers to change direction on the ratchets required me to hold the ratchet in one hand, and move the lever with my other. They are very stiff and not smooth at all. Also, the benefits of the claimed very high ratchet tooth counts is touted here, but in real life use I’m not seeing it. They just feel like my other ratchets with half the count. The case is nice and holds closed tightly with its 4 buckles. All tools fit into their individual places a bit more aggressively than expected - hopefully the case will loosening its grip over time. Also touted in advertising is the “tight torque technology” used in the sockets; “designed to remove fasteners rounded up to 70%”. That part is evident on the inside walls of sockets and wrenches, but is not a new technology. Other brands have their own versions. For this technology, the price of this set does seem to be a decent value. As a serious and busy DIY’er, I have survived removing many stuck, rounded over fasteners for 40 plus years without this technology, so I think most of the world can get by without it. However, having a set like this years ago would have made for faster and less frustrating repairs many times over for me. The finish on everything is nice. The tools feel sturdy, as you would expect from craftsman. I think most serious DIY’ers and pros should have sockets/wrenches with this grip tech, but for the rest of the population, or those looking for their first socket set, I’d recommend sticking to larger sets that offer more sockets and wrenches, and cost much less. Great set, just understand where the premium in price comes from and weigh if it’s of use to you. I personally won’t use these as my everyday tools - just for when I’m facing stubborn fasteners. The ratchets could be better. ... show more

  • Craftsman has improved on near-perfection
I didn't think there was any more room left for innovation when it came to the classic Craftsman wrench and socket tool sets. Turns out that was wrong. With this new Overdrive series, there have been a couple important innovations that make for big improvements to tool effectiveness. The first is the milled grooves on some of the inside faces of the wrenches and sockets. Craftsman says that this improvement means that these wrenches will be able to remove bolts and nuts that have been rounded up to 70%. I don't have any that have been worn down that hard in order to test this claim, but in looking at what was done, I can see how it would bite into the rounded surfaces to stop slip and apply grip. This is very clever and seems like it could make an important difference in situations where that could really matter (i.e., where getting that one last bolt free makes the difference between replacing the part on your vehicle or having to pay to get it towed to your mechanic so they can charge you for the privilege). It's one of those clever innovations that makes you wonder why it wasn't thought of years ago. The other new feature in this set is that the ratchet wrenches are 180T. That's incredible to me. Two degrees per click is a level of precision I've never found in a rachet before, but it means that I can work in really tight spaces without potentially having to figure out how to get a universal joint or an extension or something worked into the mix just to get onto a bolt. All that to say, these are two features that even some "professional" tools don't have. Would I run out and replace an existing Craftsman wrench and socket set? Probably not, unless I knew someone I could give the old one to. But if I had an incomplete set or needed to replace a bunch or worn-out tools, or if I or someone I knew was just starting out, this would absolutely be the set I would choose. It covers all the bases (1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drives, with the relevant socket sizes in each, the two common sparkplug sockets, extensions, universal joint, deep-wells, Allen wrenches, combination wrenches, plus a full set of specialty bits, a hand driver, and the case that all of this securely latches into. And, the finish on these is an attractive, slightly muted chrome that doesn't seem like it would accidentally concentrate light right into your eyes if you're using a spotlight in a tight space, which, if you've had it happen before, is best to avoid. All in all, this is an excellent set that's an attractive value, too. ... show more

  • Premium Mechanics Set
This Craftsman Overdrive set has become a go to for me in the garage. The 180 tooth ratchet really shines when I'm dealing with fasteners in super tight spots, letting me get the job done without having to reposition constantly. The difference between 180 and 120 teeth isn't huge, but it's noticeable; maybe a bit less than I'd expect. The teeth feel like they may be bending slightly, but I've had no issues with permanent damage to the ratchets. The wrenches in this set are comfortable to use, and the longer design gives a bit more leverage when things are stubborn. Everything has clear, easy to read markings, and the gunmetal chrome finish not only looks sharp, but it's also held up against rust. It's a solid, comprehensive set that feels well made and ready for regular use. ... show more

  • All you need
It has excellent quality and comes with everything you need to get started. I used it for a slightly heavy-duty task—installing a hitch on my car—and it performed very well. The three additional handles make it versatile enough for both light and heavy-duty jobs. I really like it; it’s strong and sturdy without being heavy, which is a big plus. Overall, it’s a great tool with impressive build quality. ... show more
