The design of this socket set is evidently well thought out and meticulously thorough. The carrying case is made of plastic so sturdy I'd wager you could run it over and it would be fine. Every socket necessary for automotive repair and maintenance is included, save a few edge cases. Each wrench included is not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable to use. The case is very heavy at 37 pounds. However, a portable socket set is highly useful even for the automotive repair amateur. When the case snaps shut, the metal clasps feel secure and the halves connect into a seamless whole. A socket set that can fit into any trunk is invaluable if you find yourself making an emergency roadside repair, either on your own vehicle or someone else's. The contents of this set are extremely robust. There are three wrenches with 1/4 in., 1/2 in., and 3/8 in. drives, allowing for greater application of torque as the situation merits. The 1/4 in. wrench is useful if one needs to get into a tight spot, remove or install a small nut, or simply because it is easier to handle as compared to the larger sizes. Each wrench operates smoothly, ratcheting fluidly during use. There are small divots designed to assist with grip, which can be extremely useful if any fluids have spilled onto the wrench's surface. Also included are sturdy sockets ranging from 5 to 24 mm, as well as imperial sockets that go from 7/16 to 1/2 in. There are also deep sockets in the same sizes, as well as different sets for each drive. There are three sizes of extension for each drive, as well as drive size adapters. Each piece includes a clearly defined ridged area that helps with grip near its base, along with its size stamped on the surface as applicable. One mild flaw with this socket set is the inclusion of hex or "allen" wrenches in standard sizes. These are likely included merely to pad the piece count, as sets of hex wrenches are overabundant among tradesmen. These hex wrenches do not even have ball ends, but they serve as a spare if you find yourself without any hex wrenches for some improbable reason. Sockets for special use cases can be had in other sets, or individually. While this set would have been more complete with a greater variety of sockets, there are already sockets that will not be used often, if at all, in the set. Dewalt likely researched the most common socket sizes and managed to fit a huge selection into this kit, which will serve most use cases adequately. I love this set. First off, 6 point sockets all the way. This is actually not something that is easy to find, but when it is feasible to use them I always appreciate the stability of a 6 point socket. The rachets are smooth and easy to use. The tools fit tightly in the case and don't jar loose like sets from other manufacturers I have owned in the past. It is a large set and fairly heavy to carry, but the case seems to be of good quality and should withstand the abuse my needs will put it through. WoW! this is a monster set for a carry case. It's large and heavy. A lot of sets add tons of bits to increase the # of tools in the set, not so with this set. Mostly sockets, ratchets and adapters. I bought this as a Christmas present for my son. It arrived well packed. Tools stay locked into the case really well. Seems very nice quality. I liked the handles on the ratchets, sockets seem strong and bright. If you have extra tools there is nowhere in the case to store them. Seems much better than my craftsman set! Wish I could have kept it for myself. LoL ... show more

If you want a socket set that is complete and quality for a good price, this is the one. This set may not have as many "tools" as some competing tool sets but that's because it's almost all sockets with no cheap screwdriver bits or wrench sets (usually a smaller/incomplete wrench set that will end duplicating a more complete wrench set). Useful extensions, universal joints, adapters are included along with torx and allen/hex drive sockets. 6 point shallow and deep well up to 1" SAE and 24mm metric will work for most jobs - you may have to buy some 12 point or large sockets for some jobs, but this set is about the most complete set I've seen with 178 pieces of useful socket set. The only non socket/ratchet tool is the 14 allen wrenches, which are decent quality but I would have selected ball drive allen wrenches if I was designing this set, or better yet: included larger sockets instead of them. The 72 point ratchets are smooth and comfortable: haven't broken anything in 2 years of hard use. The case is decent quality and works well. Cool feature: the ratchet handles are shaped to have a deep well socket slipped over them allowing you to use an extension as a cheater. I would only do this with the 1/2" ratchet for fear of breaking the smaller sizes but it's clearly been designed for this and sure beats having to find an appropriately sized piece of pipe to slip over the ratchet handles. ... show more

My grandson is 17 and a World Ranked Karting Driver and he does a lot of wrenching on his cars and now in SCCA does more. Bought this set for his 17 birthday last month and he loves it. We used it the last two weekends to mount a Light Bar, new Pro Grill and New Stereo in his new 23 Toyota Tacoma TRD truck and he was over the moon with the quality and all the different options allowed to us at every turn. This will last him for many, many years and I liked it so much I bought myself a set to replace my ageing socket that are all over the place. Really nice case to keep everything organized and in place. Made the job so much easier rather than me having to keep going to my tool chest's looking for the socket we needed. Fantastic Quality!! Now at $172.00 it's a no brainer. I have since bought my grandson a large roller tool chest, Dewalt screwdriver set and drill and impact wrench.
