Bought this to re-inflate tires after beach 4x4 driving. Took about 7-8 min per tire to go from 18 psi to 35 psi. Which I think is better than those battery ones that die all the time. But not as quick as a gas station. But happy to have the ability to do it no matter where I am. Also Had to set it to 36.5 to get to 35. But not a big deal. Works well.

Admittedly, when I see the brand name, Craftsman, I tend to have some pretty high expectations. I have Craftsman tools that are over fifty years old, and I still use them regularly. I’m happy to say that this inflator/blower doesn’t disappoint. The construction is what I would expect, with good design and high manufacturing standards. The unit provides three separate functions – inflator for tires, a vacuum, and a blower. I thought the filter inside the debris collection tank was a nice touch. It can be cleaned or replaced by removing it with a quarter turn. The bottom of the tank can be opened to dump dirt and dust, and the entire tank can be detached from the main unit for cleaning and to access the filter. The vacuum function works well and is great for a quick touch-up on floor mats, seats, carpeting, etc. The hose is a bit short, but repositioning the main unit as you go will allow you to reach most areas. The inflator function is outstanding. Set the target pressure and the unit turns off when the desired pressure is reached. (So, no more standing around, waiting to turn an inflator off because it might over-inflate a tire.) There are also a few accessories, giving the user the ability to inflate basket/volley balls, air mattresses, etc. The blower is great. There are so many times I want to clean my workbench in the middle of a project, but pulling out a full-size vacuum is too much hassle. This lets me get rid of dust and debris as I work. The unit is powered by a 12 volt cigarette lighter/accessory plug. It also accepts a 20 volt battery, which makes the unit completely portable. I like the idea of not being dependent on the car battery – so much so, that I plan to order a battery and charger. There’s a small light just below the handle that provides a little light for working in the dark, but it’s not a flashlight or work light. The readout is clear and easy to read. You can measure the existing tire pressure, set the target pressure, turn on the light, change functions, etc. The buttons are positive-click and are covered with rubber for resistance to weather and longer life. Overall, I like this tool very much. While I plan to carry it in the back of my SUV, I also see lots of uses for it in the shop as a vacuum/blower. And the battery option makes it extremely portable without having to worry about where I can plug it in. Highly recommended.

CATEGORICAL GRADING Presentation/Packaging: A Quality/Materials: B Design/Craftsmanship: A Price/Value/Worth: C Functionality/Versatility: A Instructions/Ease-of-Use/Comfort: A Marketing vs Reality: C Utility Grade (how useful it will be to me): B (Where “C” = Average) PROS: self-contained, easy to use, well designed, easy to carry CONS: a bit large, under-whelming vacuum Current Amazon price: $129.99 COMMENTS: I have considerable (50 yrs) of experience with Craftsman hand tools, but this is my first Craftsman power tool product. It is part of their V20 line. Conceptually, I like the idea of this combination (mini-compressor, vacuum and blower) and this is a very nice design incorporating all the three. The battery tucks neatly into an arch underneath so as not to add further volume to the unit. It is however, rather a large piece if one plans to carry it around in the car. The compressor portion works very efficiently and quietly; just set the desired pressure and the compressor makes short work of it (car tire pressures); takes a little longer to top off higher pressure bike tires, but better than most portable compressors I have tested to date. The air hose is about 36” in length and snakes over and around the back of the unit to snap in out of the way. I like that the air hose screws (rather than clamps) onto the shrader valve; you can do this with little air loss. The compressor unit shuts off automatically so you can leave it unattended once initiated. The vacuum hose detaches and also wraps around and snaps into the unit, so everything is neatly self-contained. As a vacuum, it seems a bit underwhelming but adequate on carpet and does a fine job on hard surfaces (like plastic mats). The blower is essentially the exhaust port for the vacuum onto which the vacuum hose also fits. I have no way to measure CFU’s, but relative differences in air flow itself is also a good comparator for vacuums and blowers. Using a hand held digital anemometer, I was able to obtain the following measurements from my black & yellow 20V shop vac and this unit: Craftsman: Suction - 13.1/ Output - 19.6 (MPH); Black&Yellow: Suction - 14.5/ Output - 20.4 (MPH). So, not too bad considering the reduced bulk and added compressor of the Craftsman. PRECISE RATING: 4 (good at doing what I need, at least one exceptional characteristic, probably would buy again) RECOMMENDATION: If you are already on the Craftsman V20 platform and are in possession of several such batteries, I think you’d be happy with this for automotive use and to have on hand as a small vacuum. I would not, however, start building a battery platform with this as your first tool (for which you’d subsequently need to buy a battery). I think it is one of the better inflators I have used. (As always, I will report back if there are any durability or performance issues with additional use.) I hope you found something informative and useful in this review.
