I purchased this unit to use for the holidays. It’s the perfect size, and looks real. I was concerned about the kind of heat it would be able to produce, and was pleasantly surprised! I like the black and brushed bronze/gilded look. It can be used inside an existing fireplace, or, in a faux mantle to make a guest bedroom or small space cozy and warm. Remote comes with batteries and is easy to operate. You can adjust settings on the side of the unit and then control from the remote—it’s not that hard. By the video, this looked like what I was hoping for...a realistic look, with a bright flame. It is so dim on the highest setting that you have to strain to see it when the lights are on. Another annoyance is that you can't adjust the temperature from the remote, only turn the heat on and off, so you have to crawl in the fireplace to adjust the actual thermostat. The media could not be loaded. I was actually pretty surprised with how realistic this looked, even when it was just sitting on my hearth before I got to cleaning out my old gas logs and actually putting it into the fireplace. I finally decided I was done jacking around with the gas logs, especially since it's not like they were providing any worthwhile heat, and I hate dealing with the flue. It's also pretty quiet when the actual heater part is running, definitely softer than any space heater I've used over the years. Not to say that it's silent, but just quieter than expected. And it puts out a LOT more heat into the room than the gas logs did. Pretty happy with it so far. ... show more
