  • Like the unit but wary of instructions and wifi.
Size: 12000BTU, 208-230V, 22 SEER2-WIFI Color: White
There are a good many mini split “how to” videos available on line; some better than others. I recommend looking at as many as possible because none encompass all of the possibilities (good or bad). When you watch those videos you will see the packaging, the carton inventories, and then steps of procedure. So far there is little to take issue with but in the procedures video you will see the connection of the line set near the evaporator which is the first line set couplings. Post coupling you will be instructed to UV Tape the coupled line set and move toward the coupling of the line set from the evaporator to the compressor. DON'T DO THAT. After connecting the line set to the evaporator, UV Tape the line set from the evaporator to about 8” from the line set to evaporator connection ( or whatever space you think you will need to work on those connections). If this is taped all the way to the compressor before the connection at the compressor is established and the line set is vacuumed you will have to cut your way into it to check those couplings in the event there is an indication of for a leak. Since it is a UV Tape spiral any cut and forced opening to allow room for re-torquing those connections will be sloppy and probably lack having the integrity of the rest of the wrapped line set. I suggest wrapping the line set about 8” below the coupling and wrap to the end of the line set. I have to express a measure of disappointment regarding the manufacturer’s DYI marketing approach as contradicted in operating manual notations as necessarily being installed by a trained professional; can’t have it both ways COST WAY. The change of disposition is because there are at least four catastrophic results that are very possible: you could blow your head off, you could be electrocuted, you could suffer frost bite, you could be blinded, and you could be fined thousands of dollars. A meager mention of the need for an R-32 Vacuum Pump is lacking and in need of a fuller explanation. An R-32 Vacuum Pump is designed to prevent sparks near the refrigerant. Adapters are not the answer to be able to use a vacuum pump that is not R-32 compliant. When I vacuumed my line set I had a leak. At this point I have a real problem because I know the evaporator line set is reliable but I can't be sure about the line set couplings I made. How do I determine where the leak is if all I have to work with is a vacuum pump? I can't see a leak. Maybe if my hearing was better I could hear the leak but sadly, my hearing is failing. Should I roll the dice and tighten all connections and risk opening the refrigerant valves? If I do but didn't tighten the connections enough I now have refrigerant leaking into the atmosphere. Now, I will need to call an HVAC technician and that means I have lost the DIY cost savings. At this juncture I elected to purchase an adjustable torque wrench and a nitrogen cylinder and gauge set. Nitrogen under 150 lbs of pressure makes a leak audible and I did not want to risk releasing the refrigerant without being absolutely certain the gas would be contained. The leak turned out to be the connection of the compressor. I made the correction and opened the valves for the flow of the refrigerant. Saving THE FYI advantage is important but more importantly is please of mind; knowing there is no leaks. The unit is nicely made, light, and unbelievably quiet. Once the power was turned on it performed as designed with one exception; WiFi readiness. More on that later. I installed the remote controller/thermostat batteries and read the controller instructions to find illustrations that didn't look like my controller. Confusion is never helpful when attempting to do something that is new. I am already uncertain of how to proceed and I have illustrations that don't seem to be for my application. Looking for a way to a happy ending, I encountered more confusion regarding QR Codes. The QR Codes are smaller than a US Postage Stamp and they are arranged in a block of 12 or more and I have to find the one that I need. I’m 78. My eyesight is failing! Is Cost Way only interested in the youth market? No one seems to care if the directions published are readable for ALL markets. The “right” QR contained the same information as I had already read in the manual. I set the temperature and the space immediately cooled to the point it was uncomfortable. The unit is faster and blows colder than the house system so I had to reduce it to find my comfort zone. It works well and I am happy with the evaporator and condenser. The WiFi instructions are wanting. Connecting has been very challenging. Remaining connected is even more of a challenge. I don't understand why a well written, photo guided, and proofread instruction sheet is so difficult to accomplish. I am struggling with several Chinese manufacturers because of this issue. It isn't helpful to try to make one set of directions fit many different production models if disregards, and exceptions cloud the directions. In my career I have not found experienced English proficient technical writers to be expensive. Adding the cost of competent translators and/or technical writers to the cost of the product will amount to a fraction of the lowest measure of exchange. If I have to struggle to scan at codes smaller than a stamp at least make sure it produces information that is useful. I have connected once for about 80 seconds. I am “off line” at present. CORRECTION: I am on line and WiFi is working. I like the product and I would purchase it again. ... show more

  • Cold weather capable at least to -13F I have tested
Size: 18000BTU, 208-230V, 25 SEER2-WIFI Color: White
Just had 2 days of -13F. I am using this to heat about 700sq feet in my upstairs area. Held 72F no issues and pulled about 2000 watts when it cycled on. Doing the math that is around a 2.65 COP rating which is way better than I expected for -13F(5300 watts needed for 18000 btu resistive heater). I attached my usage from an energy monitor for an hour of usage. It seems to go in to defrost mode every 3 ish hours with this artic blast. At least I assume that is what this weird ramp is on my energy monitor. The unit was easy to install just make sure you vacuum the lines and verify it holds vacuum with a micron gauge before releasing the coolant. I see people on YouTube thinking you dont need to vacuum the lines. The unit is very quiet and I dont even hear the compressor I have mine wall mounted. I cant speak to longevity as I only had the unit for about 7 months but it is working great so far! ... show more

  • Good so far.
Size: 12000BTU, 115V, 24 SEER2-WIFI Color: White
Love it so far- works as it should. Took me a day to install, and required a vacuum pump, online shutoff, and direct line to a dedicated circuit. Either need to be very handy or willing to hire an electrician and / or HVAC specialist. I did it myself, which saved a lot of money in labor. If you install yourself, you will need to buy $200-$300 worth of materials and equipment (12/2WG-14/2WG wire, AC vacuum pump, AC disconnect, conduit, fittings, and 15A breaker). The instruction book is OK. The install videos from Costway are subpar; YouTube was by far the best resource for instructions. I hope it lives up to my expectations over time. ... show more

  • Amazing mini split
Size: 12000BTU, 208-230V, 22 SEER2-WIFI Color: White
The media could not be loaded. I needed a product that was easy to install and powerful enough for my garage. This mini split is better than I had hoped for. Installation may require a professional but was relatively easy for a do it yourselfers. I purchased the optional bracket from costway and it is also easy to install. I also purchased a non fuse disconnect, 220 line and a hvac evacuation vacuum. The install went smooth and the system works flawlessly. The unit has heat, AC, dry and auto modes. I turned the unit on AC and it is very quiet. You car barely tell it is running. Quiet but very powerful. My garage was finally cool for the summer and I look forward to being able to be comfortable regardless of the season. This is a great value for the money. I used the hvac vacuum to test the system for leaks and it was a perfect seal on my first attempt. Be sure to consult a professional if you do not have a basic knowledge of installation. ... show more

  • I am almost 100% satisfied with this unit.
Size: 12000BTU, 208-230V, 22 SEER2-WIFI Color: White
We've had this unit installed for about two months now. It looks nice and cools very well. I have not used the heat mode yet, but didn't buy it for that purpose. It is very quiet and does not disturb our sleep. The motor on the interior unit wasn't working when we received it, but the company made this right. It was just the frustration of getting a new motor installed. The fan runs continuously until turned off, which wasn't expected. The thermostat isn't very acurate but I have a thermometer underneith it so I know what temperature it actually is in the room. I am very pleased with how it cools my bedroom and bathroom area. It gets cold! ... show more
