  • UPDATED 08/2021: This Dude Still Chugging Along, Almost Daily Use, Great Design!
UPDATED ON 08-19-2021: What can I say, this guys keeps on chugging along, providing us with clean, nice smelling fresh cloths and bedsheets, and we use it almost everyday since we bought it!!! 🤩Remarkable design, efficient, with a "smart" sensor that I now choose as go-to default setting and just let it go until it senses no more moisture in the laundry. This one is very clean with the lint, easy to clean filter, and the spin does tumble clockwise, then counterclockwise for better drying mechanism. I just had to update because of how satisfied we are with this portable dryer. Again, thank you for a well-designed, portable dryer--especially if like us you are tight on living space (we are military family always moving around, had this dryer now in two states!) I just hope we have several more years (we did buy the extended warranty) of use from it! Crossing our fingers, our spinning belt has not snapped off yet like our old one did after two years. We are very happy with this brand and this product! OLDER REVIEW: Our Older Magic Chef Dryer Broke After Two Years. At first I wanted the same size and price range for a replacement. Luckily, I had an extended warranty that was honored. I used the amount for an upgrade. The Costway Dryer is indeed a true UPGRADE! What I love about it is that the spin cycle goes in alternating directions, initially revolving drum one way and then after several long minutes, it pauses, and the drum goes another way. This helps with heat distribution and makes sure the clothes are not just some tangle mess inside, which will isolate moist areas and spaces in the knots and tangles, keeping parts of clothes wet or damp, which also raises your electricity bill in the long run. Speaking of that feature, I also anticipate lower electric bill because of the feature that was not on my old Magic Chef smaller dryer, which was a "smart" option where the Costway dryer adapts to the amount and type of wet laundry you are trying to dry. So basically, it is its own moisture detector. Will stop when the laundry is truly dry. And it does actually work! No laundry load thus far has come out damp or wet, but fully dry. Very satisfied with that. And definitely this dryer has more room and has bigger capacity than our Magic Chef previous model. You can probably put a small comforter in there by itself (not sure if that is NOT recommended or applicable in the manual so do so at your own risk). I just mostly do military uniforms and regular clothes. We are a military family that moves a lot, and although our apartment complex does have a laundry facility, we prefer not to share with the neighbors and have purchased both portable washer and dryer that can be set up within kitchens or bathrooms. Also, what I particularly love about this dryer is that I notice it doesn't blow out far more lint and dust like the old Magic Chef (which is still a model being sold here in Amazon). I don't know why this is so since this uses the same type of filtering (circular plastic with circular filter placed in it) as the Magic Chef (I think most portable dryers employ this type of filtering method). I do religiously check and remove the lints/dust each time I do a load. And it does have just as much attached/clinging and accumulated lint on the circular filters. Yet I have noticed that not much has been blown out outside into the vent (which can be attached to a kit which we already have, and still noticeably not much in there accumulated inside the kit). I don't know the actual efficiency in that since we only have the older Magic Chef as a frame-of-reference, and that thing was a lint/dust factory. Overall, I am pleased. This is much more expensive ($150 more) than our smaller, older Magic Chef dryer (which is now defunct after tons of use). I think that it is smart consideration that if I know an appliance has a motor which does cause perpetual friction when in use, that I make sure to buy an extended warranty. The laws of physics will definitely not exempt these type of appliances with motors from breaking down someday. Just hope that our Costway Dryer last a long, long time, at least way pass the regular manufacture warranted but not pass the extended warranty if it does follow in the tragic breakdown of our old portable dryer. If that was to happen however, unless I find a much, much significant upgrade within similar price range, I'd probably used the extended warranty refund to buy another Costway Dryer of the same magnitude. ... show more

  • I've been in this game a minute.
UPDATE 11/04/24 Can you believe this dryer is still working without issue? I can't. I better knock on wood. I have a tiny home and I do not do without the conveniences of a modern home. Everything is just scaled down to fit on a counter or run 110v and take up much less room. There were a few reasons I chose this dryer over the now much wider range of portable we have to choose from. PROS: 1.) It's size. One of the largest of portables. 2.) The wattage. Allowing for the highest temperature you can get in a 110v portable. 3.) Wall mountable. It was a must for me since the dials were at the bottom of the unit. I'd actually love to be able to set it on the ground, but at least this way, it frees up some room underneath for laundry baskets. 4.) Uses standard 4 inch exhaust. I punched a hole in an exterior wall to add permanent ventilation. 5.) Uses a reverse in cycles so that it will untangle your clothing, i e long sleeve shirts and the legs of pants. NO MORE KNOTS! CONS: 1.) It doesn't come with mounting brackets. I used my old ones from the previous dryer. 2.) You can not see into the window. That is a bummer. With that being said, here are a few things you should know before purchasing along with some tips. This is probably the largest of portables and you probably will not get a better temperature as I haven't found a higher-wattage portable on the market. To match your washer efficiently, make sure the washer sq ft is close to half the sq ft of your dryer. This is important if you want to wash and dry at the same time without backing up the laundry at the dryer portion of doing laundry. When the dryer finishes a cycle, depending on how heavy-duty the fabric is, it should be dry, allowing you to switch out clothes at a steady pace. Here's a helpful hint. Buy lighter-weight cheaper towels. It just makes sense for your portable dryer. They dry so much quicker. I love a luxury towel, but do you know how heavy they are when damp? It takes too long to dry and it causes a lot of stress on your dryer and its belts. If your dryer is causing noise, you should be looking at the internal braces that allow it to tumble freely. You may have to bend it back into the proper position. This is a slight shipping damage that can occur. You may also need to wedge something between the dryer and the drum brace so that it firmly holds without the vibration noise. Open the back and figure it out. You can do this, I have faith in that. If you wear a pants size with a length of 34 as I do, turn them inside out, fold your pants together long ways, and then fold them three times from the waist to the bottom of the pant leg and place them in the dryer flat left to right. You'll get a quicker dry and fewer wrinkles. I would do this with all pants regardless of size, actually. Don't use dryer sheets. They damage your dryer. Use wool balls. You can add essential oils to make your clothing smell wonderful. When you take a towel out of this dryer, it is very warm and feels so good just stepping out of the shower. I've had my dryer since April 7th, this year. I'm VERY happy with my purchase. My previous dryer was a Magic Chef dryer model # mcsdry1s. This new dryer is a major upgrade. ... show more

  • Fire hazard DON’T RISK IT! Fire hazard DON’T RISK IT!
Second update! After having the replacement unit stored away for almost 2 years I decided to bring it out and use it. Well what do ya know! Not even a month of using this and I just plugged it in and I heard a noise, then the dryer wouldn’t start. I was confused. I was touching around and sure enough right in the same spot as before, inside on the front behind the front filter piece yhst melted before, it was burning up! I’m convinced this dryer is going to burn someone’s house down or worse. If it already hasn’t. I’m not even contacting the company this time as I know they don’t care and I would NEVER accept another replacement as my family and my home mean more to me than this dryer! Scary stuff!!! Do NOT buy! And Costway you should be looking into why your dryers are doing this!!! Update: I contacted the company directly. First they offered a refund on the first dryer from 7 months ago which I thought was good customer service since they didn’t have to. However I expressed to them my concern over them not wanting it back to look into what happened as it seemed like a serious safety issue. I also told them the new dryer wasn’t drying as well as the first one did. I was surprised they ended up giving me a full refund on both dryers and didn’t want me to return either one. I’m still hesitant with using this product but I am happy with the outcome. Would have been better if they’d have looked into what caused the dryer to get hot after two days of no use. Not happy with that. —————- Where do I begin. I bought this in November. A couple months ago it began tripping my circuit breaker. I wasn’t sure what to think. A couple weeks ago it tripped the circuit breaker just from closing the door. This made no sense and I was concerned and stopped using it. Although I was upset that the warranty was a measley 6 months and I just missed it by a month, I was initially happy with this dryer. Soooo I just ordered another one since this time Amazon offered an extended warranty plan. The new dryer didn’t dry as well as my first one though so I decided I would be returning it. I unhooked it on Saturday and hooked up the older one again and used it on Saturday. It only tripped the circuit breaker once, and again it was when I closed the door on the dryer. Skip to this morning … I was in the room and set my phone on the dryer. It’s now Monday and I haven’t used the dryer since Saturday. When I grabbed my phone something felt warm. ??? I opened the dryer door and reached inside and OH MY GOSH! it was SOOOO hot! Nearly burned my hand. I immediately unplugged the dryer. It hasn’t been used in 2 days!!!! I then noticed the vent was warped from the high heat. I am 100% convinced this would have started a fire had I not have realized it was hot. I am waiting to hear back from the company and will update this when I do. For now I’m thinking I will avoid this brand at all costs. It was the scariest thing to realize my family could have been in danger due to a faulty dryer with a horrible warranty! ... show more

  • Excellent apartment sized dryer
Ive waited 3 weeks to write this review, as it was a replacement for a competitors brand that died during the second use. I've used it approximately 10-12 times now and have zero complaints about the quality or function. Yes it does take longer than a traditional dryer, but that is to be expected as its a 110v and not a 220v. However its reasonable quiet, dries almost full sized loads in one 'extra' cycle which is 120minutes at 140F with a 30 min cooldown where the temp drops to 104, then to just air. It has a standard 4 inch exhaust so you can vent it to a normal dryer exhaust, or a window adapter if you do not have a traditional exhaust port. Some of the features of this dryer that made it stand out above the others for me, is one, its 1700w heating element versus 1500w for most others (and less for some brands) and much more importantly (for my use situation) is built in handles on the sides to help in moving it. You can however buy an adjustable rolling frame to set it on (for about 20$ on amazon) if you have to move it often or over any real distance. Pros: Portable, weighs about 60lbs Quiet, I have it in my living room and still doze off in my chair while its running. Solid Heat, the exhaust pipe gets hot to the touch, so its putting out good temps during operation Two direction tumble for fluffier clothes Handles for ease of moving Cons: The door isnt see through, this may not bother you, but for some reason bothers me Wall mounting although possible, isnt truly wall mounting based on the instruction manual, as it looks like you need a frame base to also support it, so its more of a raised mounting system.(this is not included and must be purchased separately. Does not come with additional fabric filters, but you can buy generic packs of them here on amazon. They tape the packing straps on the shipping box, so you will have no where to grab the box by, you will most likely need help moving it into your place when you get it, unless you open it outside and carry just the dryer. As a final note, based SOLELY on the one this replaced, which I disassembled in effort to fix after I was refunded and told to discard it. I would STRONGLY suggest buying the 5 year appliance warranty with this item. Not because of any quality complaints, but because the heating elements are not rated for a particularly long life, and they do not seem to be readily available anywhere I was able to track down outside of a few chinese sellers on 3rd party sites. They also cost more than the warranty itself costs, so by purchasing the warranty you can just get the whole dryer replaced instead of having to try and track down the parts and repair it yourself should it fail or wear out. *6 month update* Still working strong, is used a lot, theres my 2 sons, 14 and 10, and myself, so not an inconsequential amount of laundry has been through it. Recommended Purchase. ... show more

  • Compact and works! Compact and works!
I bought this dryer to replace the non working one in our RV. It was packaged quite well for shipping except for the bottom of the box. Despite that it arrived in excellent condition. At first sight I was concerned I had gotten a too small dryer. The size of the unit was misleading because when I opened the door the drying drum was actually the same or slightly larger than my original dryer! The small laundry closet wasn't really large enough for the washer/dryer AND laundry supplies before. Now, with the smaller dryer, I have room for most of the supplies 🙂 It dries clothes in the time I expect it to...it is, after all, just a plug-in unit and not 220 so it takes a little longer than a full-size unit. I can fit my king size sheet set in it but I choose to dry the pillowcases with another load to help it dry faster. This unit pauses and reverses spin direction periodically to avoid winding sheets and towels into a twisted, not dry, mess. I wish it had more time settings and I'm not a big fan of the lint trap set up but overall I'm glad I bought this and glad I can avoid laundromats!laundromat! The new dryer is on top in the picture and you can see it is a little smaller than the washer, mate to the old dryer on the bottom. ... show more

  • (UPDATE)I highly recommend this product! Pins broke? Easy fix! (UPDATE)I highly recommend this product! Pins broke? Easy fix!
I purchased the Costway 1700w portable dryer on March 16 2022. This thing is awesome!! We have used it ALOT usually all day on the weekends and some through the week! The only problem I have had with this unit is the pins broke on the lint cover. I also saw a review someone did about the pins breaking. That is a very simple fix. Look at the pictures I have posted. You can't beat the durability of this dryer! 👍UPDATE👍 Coming up on 3 years of use! This dryer has more than paid for itself! March 16th of 2025 will mark 3 years that me and my wife have had this unit! We also have a portable washer. We use this dryer alot lol. The tabs broke off that holds the dryer vent on but that's easy to fix, that is the only issues we have had! It still gets plenty hot when drying clothes. It has a built in heat sink meaning when the dryer has been running for a long time it shuts down so it can cool off then automatically starts back up when cooled down. This is a great product, I highly recommend! ... show more

  • Squeaky
This dryer makes a squeaky noise. It’s annoying. It stops then spins in the opposite direction in order to prevent the clothes from tangling up. That is great. The hole to put in the clothes is small. The rubber seal around the hole is loose fitting. Sometimes getting sheets or blankets through the hole pushes the rubber seal off. It has come completely off at this point. It takes a long time to dry. Like 2-3 hours a load. Seems it didn’t take so long before the rubber seal came off. But, by not as long, I mean it still took 2 hours, just not 3 hours to dry. I give this dryer a 3 rating instead of a 2 because it dies that reverse spin to untangle clothes. This is my 3rd portable dryer. ... show more

  • Great buy would buy again
I love this dryer. It works most excellent. The drying capacity is great. I can fit a queen size duvet cover in it and it dries it perfectly. Only problem I've had is if heavy objects like I dried a bunch of my dogs stuffies in it, The door might pop open a little bit but it'll give you a warning buzzer that that happens. Has plenty of settings on it for however you want to dry your clothes. Arrived very well packaged even though the box looked like it went through world war 3 it was not dented or damaged at all unlike the first dryer I tried to purchase which did go through world war 3 and was damaged and didn't work. It's kind of heavy so if it's just one person you might want to have a little help cuz it's a little bigger than I thought it was going to be. It's not a teeny tiny dryer but it's not a huge dryer either It's just right. If you've got a 1.6 cubic foot washing machine it's going to be able to dry your clothes. Well worth the money I caught it on sale and I waited a long time before I purchased it and I waited it for to go on buy it used before I bought it well worth of money. ... show more
