  • Excellent apartment sized dryer
Ive waited 3 weeks to write this review, as it was a replacement for a competitors brand that died during the second use. I've used it approximately 10-12 times now and have zero complaints about the quality or function. Yes it does take longer than a traditional dryer, but that is to be expected as its a 110v and not a 220v. However its reasonable quiet, dries almost full sized loads in one 'extra' cycle which is 120minutes at 140F with a 30 min cooldown where the temp drops to 104, then to just air. It has a standard 4 inch exhaust so you can vent it to a normal dryer exhaust, or a window adapter if you do not have a traditional exhaust port. Some of the features of this dryer that made it stand out above the others for me, is one, its 1700w heating element versus 1500w for most others (and less for some brands) and much more importantly (for my use situation) is built in handles on the sides to help in moving it. You can however buy an adjustable rolling frame to set it on (for about 20$ on amazon) if you have to move it often or over any real distance. Pros: Portable, weighs about 60lbs Quiet, I have it in my living room and still doze off in my chair while its running. Solid Heat, the exhaust pipe gets hot to the touch, so its putting out good temps during operation Two direction tumble for fluffier clothes Handles for ease of moving Cons: The door isnt see through, this may not bother you, but for some reason bothers me Wall mounting although possible, isnt truly wall mounting based on the instruction manual, as it looks like you need a frame base to also support it, so its more of a raised mounting system.(this is not included and must be purchased separately. Does not come with additional fabric filters, but you can buy generic packs of them here on amazon. They tape the packing straps on the shipping box, so you will have no where to grab the box by, you will most likely need help moving it into your place when you get it, unless you open it outside and carry just the dryer. As a final note, based SOLELY on the one this replaced, which I disassembled in effort to fix after I was refunded and told to discard it. I would STRONGLY suggest buying the 5 year appliance warranty with this item. Not because of any quality complaints, but because the heating elements are not rated for a particularly long life, and they do not seem to be readily available anywhere I was able to track down outside of a few chinese sellers on 3rd party sites. They also cost more than the warranty itself costs, so by purchasing the warranty you can just get the whole dryer replaced instead of having to try and track down the parts and repair it yourself should it fail or wear out. *6 month update* Still working strong, is used a lot, theres my 2 sons, 14 and 10, and myself, so not an inconsequential amount of laundry has been through it. Recommended Purchase. ... show more

  • UPDATED 08/2021: This Dude Still Chugging Along, Almost Daily Use, Great Design!
UPDATED ON 08-19-2021: What can I say, this guys keeps on chugging along, providing us with clean, nice smelling fresh cloths and bedsheets, and we use it almost everyday since we bought it!!! 🤩Remarkable design, efficient, with a "smart" sensor that I now choose as go-to default setting and just let it go until it senses no more moisture in the laundry. This one is very clean with the lint, easy to clean filter, and the spin does tumble clockwise, then counterclockwise for better drying mechanism. I just had to update because of how satisfied we are with this portable dryer. Again, thank you for a well-designed, portable dryer--especially if like us you are tight on living space (we are military family always moving around, had this dryer now in two states!) I just hope we have several more years (we did buy the extended warranty) of use from it! Crossing our fingers, our spinning belt has not snapped off yet like our old one did after two years. We are very happy with this brand and this product! OLDER REVIEW: Our Older Magic Chef Dryer Broke After Two Years. At first I wanted the same size and price range for a replacement. Luckily, I had an extended warranty that was honored. I used the amount for an upgrade. The Costway Dryer is indeed a true UPGRADE! What I love about it is that the spin cycle goes in alternating directions, initially revolving drum one way and then after several long minutes, it pauses, and the drum goes another way. This helps with heat distribution and makes sure the clothes are not just some tangle mess inside, which will isolate moist areas and spaces in the knots and tangles, keeping parts of clothes wet or damp, which also raises your electricity bill in the long run. Speaking of that feature, I also anticipate lower electric bill because of the feature that was not on my old Magic Chef smaller dryer, which was a "smart" option where the Costway dryer adapts to the amount and type of wet laundry you are trying to dry. So basically, it is its own moisture detector. Will stop when the laundry is truly dry. And it does actually work! No laundry load thus far has come out damp or wet, but fully dry. Very satisfied with that. And definitely this dryer has more room and has bigger capacity than our Magic Chef previous model. You can probably put a small comforter in there by itself (not sure if that is NOT recommended or applicable in the manual so do so at your own risk). I just mostly do military uniforms and regular clothes. We are a military family that moves a lot, and although our apartment complex does have a laundry facility, we prefer not to share with the neighbors and have purchased both portable washer and dryer that can be set up within kitchens or bathrooms. Also, what I particularly love about this dryer is that I notice it doesn't blow out far more lint and dust like the old Magic Chef (which is still a model being sold here in Amazon). I don't know why this is so since this uses the same type of filtering (circular plastic with circular filter placed in it) as the Magic Chef (I think most portable dryers employ this type of filtering method). I do religiously check and remove the lints/dust each time I do a load. And it does have just as much attached/clinging and accumulated lint on the circular filters. Yet I have noticed that not much has been blown out outside into the vent (which can be attached to a kit which we already have, and still noticeably not much in there accumulated inside the kit). I don't know the actual efficiency in that since we only have the older Magic Chef as a frame-of-reference, and that thing was a lint/dust factory. Overall, I am pleased. This is much more expensive ($150 more) than our smaller, older Magic Chef dryer (which is now defunct after tons of use). I think that it is smart consideration that if I know an appliance has a motor which does cause perpetual friction when in use, that I make sure to buy an extended warranty. The laws of physics will definitely not exempt these type of appliances with motors from breaking down someday. Just hope that our Costway Dryer last a long, long time, at least way pass the regular manufacture warranted but not pass the extended warranty if it does follow in the tragic breakdown of our old portable dryer. If that was to happen however, unless I find a much, much significant upgrade within similar price range, I'd probably used the extended warranty refund to buy another Costway Dryer of the same magnitude. ... show more

  • Fire hazard DON’T RISK IT!
Second update! After having the replacement unit stored away for almost 2 years I decided to bring it out and use it. Well what do ya know! Not even a month of using this and I just plugged it in and I heard a noise, then the dryer wouldn’t start. I was confused. I was touching around and sure enough right in the same spot as before, inside on the front behind the front filter piece yhst melted before, it was burning up! I’m convinced this dryer is going to burn someone’s house down or worse. If it already hasn’t. I’m not even contacting the company this time as I know they don’t care and I would NEVER accept another replacement as my family and my home mean more to me than this dryer! Scary stuff!!! Do NOT buy! And Costway you should be looking into why your dryers are doing this!!! Update: I contacted the company directly. First they offered a refund on the first dryer from 7 months ago which I thought was good customer service since they didn’t have to. However I expressed to them my concern over them not wanting it back to look into what happened as it seemed like a serious safety issue. I also told them the new dryer wasn’t drying as well as the first one did. I was surprised they ended up giving me a full refund on both dryers and didn’t want me to return either one. I’m still hesitant with using this product but I am happy with the outcome. Would have been better if they’d have looked into what caused the dryer to get hot after two days of no use. Not happy with that. —————- Where do I begin. I bought this in November. A couple months ago it began tripping my circuit breaker. I wasn’t sure what to think. A couple weeks ago it tripped the circuit breaker just from closing the door. This made no sense and I was concerned and stopped using it. Although I was upset that the warranty was a measley 6 months and I just missed it by a month, I was initially happy with this dryer. Soooo I just ordered another one since this time Amazon offered an extended warranty plan. The new dryer didn’t dry as well as my first one though so I decided I would be returning it. I unhooked it on Saturday and hooked up the older one again and used it on Saturday. It only tripped the circuit breaker once, and again it was when I closed the door on the dryer. Skip to this morning … I was in the room and set my phone on the dryer. It’s now Monday and I haven’t used the dryer since Saturday. When I grabbed my phone something felt warm. ??? I opened the dryer door and reached inside and OH MY GOSH! it was SOOOO hot! Nearly burned my hand. I immediately unplugged the dryer. It hasn’t been used in 2 days!!!! I then noticed the vent was warped from the high heat. I am 100% convinced this would have started a fire had I not have realized it was hot. I am waiting to hear back from the company and will update this when I do. For now I’m thinking I will avoid this brand at all costs. It was the scariest thing to realize my family could have been in danger due to a faulty dryer with a horrible warranty! ... show more

  • You won’t regret buying this! Changed my life and made it so much easier!
I don’t have a car. So getting to the laundromat as a single mother with two kids, especially in the winter, can be very hard. Walking there with all of our laundry up hill, was also quite the task. With a brand new baby it was just exhausting and I couldn’t do it anymore and figured I would look on Amazon and see what they had. I had no idea they had portable dryers until this purchase! I sat and read tons of reviews and this was the largest and had the best reviews of all of the dryers. I can do a family of three’s clothes in it plus towels EASILY. I just break up the wash into two smaller loads for the dryer. Unless it’s all clothing that dries quickly. Like workout clothing, leggings, anything with that spandex type of material. It can dry a larger load of stuff like that in an hour or so. I go and take lint out of the trap as it’s going to speed things up a bit and keep the airflow optimal. The biggest win for me is the fact I have no lint all over my clothes anymore and our clothes aren’t hard from line drying. You have no idea how nice it is putting on a soft shirt or feeling a soft fluffy towel against your face. I had been hand washing and line drying our clothes and lint was just all over everything. The tiny little portable washing machine I was using just got lint all over everything and it was awful. Not to mention line drying and having hard tee shirts and underwear. But desperate times call for desperate measures sometimes. Winter is coming and I won’t be able to line dry anymore. Walking to the laundromat is so hard with a new baby and a nine year old. Plus the weight of it all and having to push it uphill for twenty minutes, is exhausting. This purchase literally took so much anxiety away about this winter and how to get our laundry done. My days are so much easier now. Versus spending half the day washing and hand wringing all of our clothes from the day before. I’d recommend going for the Amazon credit card and getting the coupon to make the purchase even cheaper. That’s what I did and I’m so happy I did! Literally changed my life and my days are that much easier. Easy to use. Works amazingly well. Goes clockwise and counter clockwise so you’re clothes don’t get tangled. Larger than I expected but still small. I wish I could find a wall Mount to put it up on the wall, but I can’t find it on here. Or a wire rack that can hold the weight. To make the footprint even less and get it off my kitchen table. But I really don’t mind for the peace of mind I’ve got now. Worth the purchase! Buy it now. You won’t regret it! ... show more

  • So far...so good....
This dryer is VERY LARGE to be a portable dryer on the inside. I mean it seriously has a LOT of space inside the drum. It is easy to remove the lint trap and it is VERY VERY QUIET! In fact, unbelievably quiet for a dryer that I though it wasn't working, but one hours later all clothes dry AND a very appeasing smell and I did not add dryer sheet. It looks great too! Very modern....Hope it lasts because I can't find more information on who make this "COSTWAY" brand. ... show more

  • (UPDATE)I highly recommend this product! Pins broke? Easy fix!
I purchased the Costway 1700w portable dryer on March 16 2022. This thing is awesome!! We have used it ALOT usually all day on the weekends and some through the week! The only problem I have had with this unit is the pins broke on the lint cover. I also saw a review someone did about the pins breaking. That is a very simple fix. Look at the pictures I have posted. You can't beat the durability of this dryer! 👍UPDATE👍 Coming up on 3 years of use! This dryer has more than paid for itself! March 16th of 2025 will mark 3 years that me and my wife have had this unit! We also have a portable washer. We use this dryer alot lol. The tabs broke off that holds the dryer vent on but that's easy to fix, that is the only issues we have had! It still gets plenty hot when drying clothes. It has a built in heat sink meaning when the dryer has been running for a long time it shuts down so it can cool off then automatically starts back up when cooled down. This is a great product, I highly recommend! ... show more

  • PRETTY GOOD OVERALL
Got this a few months ago. Overall its pretty good. Its funny somethings dry pretty quickly but somethings take a while. Things like sheets or pillowcases or thin polyester socks.. even jeans IF there are not too many other things in there. Thin shirts etc.. But it DEFINITELY takes longer than a regular full sized dryer. Overall its good though and when the clothes are ready, they are soft and not wrinkled and feel great. I do NOT have it vented to the outside. I just let the vent blow straight up. In the winter its fine because it heats up the room! Summer it gets a bit sticky/humid, but I just open a window. Overall if you're okay with doing smaller loads and waiting a bit longer, its much more convenient than hang drying etc.. I'm very glad I purchased it. ... show more

  • Very effective little dryer but takes time
Pictured is my load of whites: 6 tees, 6 pair of socks, 1 dish rag, 2 dish towels. Time at 120 degree setting: 1 hour. Can do the same with 2 pair of jeans (size 32x32), 1 bath towel, bath rag, bath hand towel. Ditto 5 long-sleeve shirts and 5 boxers. Takes longer for queen sized sheet set, fitted, flat, 2 pillow cases. With some loads, you may need to change the lint filter before the cycle ends, especially if you have pets. Don't ask me how I know. Good little dryer. It will NOT really get hot enough after an hour to take wrinkles out, but if you get the clothes out right after it stops and fold/hang it doesn't make much of a difference. Will get hotter after about 2h, but that's a long time for a little benefit to me. Cons: Will shut off occasionally when it decides it needs a break (over heated? motor strain? dunno...) and start again after fifteen minutes. Not a deal breaker, and it always gets through the first two loads without doing that. Also, the door is (VERY) fragile at the hinge. Never lean on it. Lint filter is a bit of a pain if you have the dryer on the floor. All in all, I like the darn thing for my small apartment. Gets the job done and saves me money--I will move it by the window and vent it out with the included kit (doesn't include hose) when summer comes around. ... show more
