With warmer temperature and higher energy cost in Southern California. I am searching for different ways to cool the house in limited area so I do not have to use central AC too often. I was split between a mini split air conditioner or a portable AC unit. My parents have mini split AC. It works well but it is stationary in 1 room. I decided to go with a portable AC unit so I can move it from room to room as needed. I went with Costway 12000btu portable air conditioner which is in the midlevel price range and the brand also makes different AC units for your needs. The package came damaged on the outside (I contacted the seller through Amazon and they responded right away in less than 24hrs), but with solid protection nothing was damaged to the AC unit. AC is much heavier than I thought. It has 4 caster wheels for effortless movement. Set up is pretty easy and the package comes with everything you need, but I waited 1 day before testing it out as recommended. Operation is easy with the on-board control panel, and remote, or phone app. I only use the control panel and the phone app so far. Phone app is easy to setup and only takes couple minutes. Only thing you cannot control the AC unit with phone app is sleep setting which I find very odd. Once the AC unit is on it gets very cold right away. I use this AC in an 800sq ft area(whole house is 2000sq ft) and this AC is rated for 450sq ft. With outdoor temp in the high 80s F, the AC is able to lower the indoor temperature by 1 degree in less than 30 minutes. The 1 degree does not seem much, but the cold air combines with Vornado air circulator every in the family is comfortable with cooler air. I could have purchased the 14000 btu portable AC unit but I was afraid it would be too big or too heavy to move around. I have used this AC almost everyday for the last several weeks in the late afternoon. Everything is working flawlessly and the noise level is not as loud as expected. This portable air conditioner built with 4-in 1 functions, cooling, heater, humidifier and fan. We are feel that we could be comfortable for the whole year to have this machine. We try it as a heater lately, it warm our room fast,and can’t wait to use it others functions. Recommend!

I got 100 today and can’t wait to open my new portable air conditioner. It is really simple to put all the pieces together. And it is so nice to have wheels that I can move around more convenience otherwise it is too heavy. I like that so far because the AC is not loud while it works. I also like that has AC mode and Fan mode.east to control even my two year old. I put it in the dinning room and it cool fast than my old air conditioner. Good choice this time. ... show more

Worked for about 3 weeks and then stopped blowing cold. I only use it in the really hot months so I guess I waited too long for the refund. I would definitely not recommend this product. There are also several others with the same problem.

Water keep filling up and turning off the unit. The manual states to put drain hoses in the top drain line. I did that he keeps filling up in the bottom drain line. It stops running after 2 hours of running. I have to take unit outside to drain outside to get it to heat again. Ask for return it was approved. No shipping included. I just paid 234.00 to ship it back. I'm very unhappy with the whole thing. I will never buy form this company again. ... show more

In the stuffy room, not without this large power machine, the air volume is very sufficient, can move at will, cooling no problem. The overall appearance looks very high-end, the noise decibel is suitable for me to sleep, I can not do without it because I am afraid of heat.
