  • Don't buy used items from this guy.
PSU didn't even work when it arrived. I did the paper clip test on it to see if it even worked and nothing. Tried using the SATA cable that came with it on my current PSU and my computer wouldn't boot properly until I switched it back. Packaging was just 2 pieces of packing paper and it didn't even come with all the wires. ... show more

  • lack of flexibility in fan speed
Ok, here's the thing. it's a fine psu in terms of how it's built and power delivery. I got this for 240 something with tax. At that price it was a good option, with a 10 year warranty. that's what i like too. Let me cut to the chase, since all the good stuff is basically what'd you expect the problem is the fan. You cant control it and it's set too low. it's ok if you can't control it if they use it, but they don't. Trust me it gets hot it's not just some over excited pc person getting into fans and stuff over the top. I noticed this because I'm always in my pc doing something, and i have 2 gpus, so i eventually touched the psu it gets really hot to a point that's not necessary or ideal unless your obsessed with any sound. but i already have a ton of fans making sound so it's not relevant to my use case. i looked online to see if it was just me, it's not it's a common complaint. IMO corsair is just being stubborn on this subject saying it hits "their" performance numbers blah blah blah. Whatever, if your goal is maximum lifespan this kind of heat matters. I looked online and people are getting readings where the parts are getting to like 80c (for the hottest ones). Ok, still 10 year warranty you say sure, but the thing is that kind of heat shortents life. I like my psu's to last 20 years. My evga titanium has a fan boost mode actually. if the fan fails i can replace it. It's better to protect your investment with a little more cooling for some of us it doesn't have to sound like a hair dryer, but some fan would be nice even 100 rpm they totally went overboard. Anything above 60c starts to have impact, it's warmer than that. They are optimizing to get you though the warranty period that's isn't my goal, and evga gives more flexibility on this. that's my preference flexibility. Here's the fix. You can flip it upside down and attach a fan to it it should still attach fine to the case, and it's designed to look ok that way (the labels). that drops the temp a lot. Just make sure you point the fan the right way. i was able to get a positive flow out the back of the psu this way. I shouldn't have to do this but whatever. The down side is the labels are harder to read, but it not that relevant. i wish i would have thought of this sooner, so i didn't bake my psu for 6 months. but such as it is. ... show more

  • Cosair will swap new for refurb if you have DOA or file for a warranty claim!
Feature-wise, the supply is well built. We bought 3 of these (new, non-refurb at full price with 10-year warranties) and had one that wouldn't work under load (i.e., when attached to the maiboard). When we contacted Corsair to return the DOA supply, they sent us a refurbished HX1200 with a 90-day warranty. So, I got to pay full price for a new HX1200 with a 10 year warranty, but actually ended up with a used/refurb supply with a 90 day warranty. No, they didn't send a check to cover the difference ($294.99 new vs $219.99 refurb). Also, I learned that if you do file a warranty claim in that 10 year period, Cosair will happily convert your 10-year warranty (or whatever's left of that 10 years) into a 90-day one when they send you a refurbished replacement. Clearly they don't stand by their quality or support their customers. Keep that in mind when dealing with Cosair - they will rip you off! ... show more
