We used this set to replace an older ceramic set. This set is SO much lighter. While the plates, honestly, don't feel strong, they certainly are. And they are supposed to be nearly indestructible - not that we go around dropping or throwing our plates around. There were three sizes of plates and four sizes of bowls. We got this Corelle 12 piece set to replace an old dish set that had the glaze worn and faded after many years. The old set was sturdy, but the design was mostly gone on many of the pieces. The Corelle set is very smooth and the designs look great. We were very pleased to see that our service for 12 actually takes up much less space in our cupboard than the old service for 8. The Corelle dishes are very thin and light, so it's easy to carry around 6-8 plates in one hand. I could never do that with the old set. The soup bowls each came with a lid. At first, we didn't think they would be useful, but we've found them to be very helpful. Many of our dinners are served in a bowl, and we just have to put a lid on each bowl to store the leftovers. A small piece of masking tape on each lid with initials, and we're set. There are also two larger serving bowls in the set, also with lids. Great value, very compact, and much cheaper than replacing our stone ware! ... show more

Corelle is an excellent product - durable, diverse set of plates and bowls, and attractive. Though we plan to keep this 12 piece set, the red design on two of the dinner plates appeared to be lighter than the rest. Also, there were a few marks on the bottoms of two mid-sized serving bowls. Neither of these issues are enough to cause us to return the item - but Corelle's manufacturing quality control could be a bit better. ... show more
