  • Decent tent
I liked the size but it was a little bit heavier than I'd prefer. Great if 2 people are setting up/taking down but a little harder for 1 person.

  • Passed the wind test
Was looking for a tent that could be pitched faster than the traditional dome tents that I've used in the past. This tent is definitely the answer. It really does go up in 60 seconds. If you inch up the poles little by little and one at a time, you can set it up by yourself. We pitched this tent at the lake over the weekend and had what felt like 30 mph gusts for 2 straight days. The first day we elected not to put the rainfly on since we were in the 90s an wanted the extra air flow. The tent swayed a ton throughout the day but did not bend or break. The second day we put the rainfly on and staked it down and it really did beef up the stability. The T-style zipper opening proved to be much better than the traditional D style. I was a bit worried about it and not being as big of an opening but I prefer it now to the D style. This tent has amazing ventilation. As you can see by the pics, the ceiling is all mesh, there are windows on each side (not the back, the back is all tent material and no mesh) and window in each of the 2 doors on the front. You can zip everything up to provide complete privacy on all 4 walls. You do need to put the rainfly to protect from rain through the ceiling. The fly also provides a nice awning on the front over the door. There is a small pole that slides through the awning sleeve which helps keep the rain from landing on the door. The ground vents on the bottom of the sides is an awesome feature. It is completely mesh and has a material flap. You can keep it all the way open by staking it out furthest from the tent or you can close it shut by the drawstring on the inside. Either way you keep bugs out with the mesh. The mesh organizers were really cool. The gear loft for the top has dual hooks to hang from the hook at the top of the tent to prevent the loft from sagging when you hang heavier tech gear and hang a light underneath. Zippers all worked great although the main zipper gets a little tight toward the bottom when you have the windows on the doors all the way down. Could probably relieve the tension by loosening up the two stakes under/near the doors. My biggest concern before purchasing was the type of material the floor was made out of. Had read other reviews of the material being really thin and that was not what I found. The floor is a heavier material much like a standard tarp and durable enough for dog paws, while the walls are a polyester/nylon material. My wife and I had 2 cots, 2 storage totes and 2 big dogs in this tent with all of our gear stored under the cots and felt like we had plenty of room. All in all very impressed with the quality of this tent and its ease of set up, use and take down. Look forward to using this tent for years to come. If you're looking for a roomy, strong and easy tent, this is the one. ... show more

  • Painless set up
I have not had a chance to use this in the elements yet but I've set it up in the backyard. I'm so impressed by how easy and fast it was to set up completely. Took me about 2 minutes to get tent body up and staked. Rain fly was a bit harder to do for one person but had it attached and guy lines staked in about 8 min. I ran the sprinkler on it for a couple of hours and it was bone dry. I applied Nikwax Solarproof just to add some uv protection as well as additional waterproof. Overall, it's a great tent with plenty of space. The awning is small and useless but the T door makes entering the tent smoother. Materials and build seem to be of good quality. Well, except for the flimsy stakes anyway. When everything was dry, I was able to place it back in the bag. I had to wrestle and lay on it a bit to compress the air out. I also added some cardboard to the ends of the bag. The tent feet and hub presses against the tent fabric and I'm afraid it'll lead to a puncture so I wanted to add some padding. ... show more

  • An interesting product that could be great
I promised to return to this review after more experience. I have to say that the tent is much better than I thought it would be -- stunningly easy to put up, airy and comfortable. To compensate for the somewhat thin floor, I used a 10x10 tarp and a waterproof backed "picnic blanket" inside the tent. Blanketing the floor was a great idea that added comfort and some style for not very much money. The tent was a snap to get back into the bag; I confess to using bungee cords to keep it under control while repacking. The rain fly is easy to put on and effective, doesn't cut down on ventilation. The tent stakes are not very good, and I intend to buy manly ones for next time. I think this tent will last for several seasons. It's a worthy buy. I bought this because of an excellent experience with the CORE 10x10 Instant Canopy, which I've had for a year. I've used it several times camping and find it to be sturdy, well thought out and appropriate for a single, able camper. I'm 70 years old and camp alone. The 6 person instant cabin tent with awning has some of the outstanding design elements of the canopy, including the leg extension and lock mechanism. And it's in a small market of lightweight full size tents for car campers. The tent top stands tall and goes up quickly (the vendor says 60 seconds for two people, which I'd like to see). I put the tent up in about 5 minutes alone without any problem. That doesn't include staking it (to our living room floor, which is frowned upon). The fabric is similar to the canopy product, which seems very light, but in my experience has held up well. The legs are not nearly as sturdy as the canopy's, though, which I imagine is a nod to weight considerations. There's plenty of room for two cots, a table and gear; I never take seriously the vendors' ideas of how many people can fit in a tent. But it's roomy. It's definitely most appropriate for warmer regions (I camp in the Southeast US). I have camped in a light tent in the arctic and in far southern South America, and it's doable, but only if you're committed. I intend to return to this review after a few camping excursions this spring. Until then, I want to note a few disappointments: 1) the carry bag is made of VERY light (i.e., flimsy) nylon, compared with the canopy product, and it lacks the cinch straps and clips and carry handles, not to mention the nice wheels for rolling. 2) the screens, while numerous, are made of material that looks more like hairnet than screen. There are great, lightweight, hardy screen materials out there, and they should have been used. 3) the tent floor is made of very thin tarp plastic. Given the purpose of the floor the maker should have used heavier gauge stuff. 4) CORE doesn't offer or even recommend (I asked) a tent floor protector. The 9x11 size makes it difficult to find one, and this is a missed opportunity. TO END ON A POSITIVE NOTE, the stuff does all fit back in the bag, which puts it in the 90th percentile of such things. Get ready to rumble before trying it, though. ... show more
