  • Great angle grinder for a cordless version
I have a couple of corded angle grinders and have been wanting a cordless one. I got this one because it will fit my Milwaukee batteries that I already have. My batteries all fit it perfectly with no slop or wiggle. The box comes with the grinder, a perpendicular handle that can be installed on the left or right side of the tool, a spark guard and a blade/arbor wrench along with a set of instructions. The tool feels really solid and is made up of sturdy plastics handle/grip and metal head. The base of the handle has your speed selector for low, medium and high speeds. The trigger switch is on or off, not variable speed control. The trigger has a lock to keep the trigger on for prolonged use. Just pull the trigger again to release the trigger lock. The spark guard can be adjusted to facilitate your needs (left or right handed operation). The ergonomics of the tool feel nice and the weight is about what you would expect from an angle grinder and battery. I've used this with cut-off blades for cutting angle iron as well as with rasp bladed for shaping wood. The blade size needed is 4-1/2 in. and that's a perfect size for most everything I will be using it for. It's really nice not having to go reel out the extension cords to do cuts out on the trailer or in the yard. It is suggested to use batteries that are 2.0 mAh or larger but it will operate on the 1.5's that I also have. I use a 6 mAh for longer use times though. With good diamond blades, I experienced very little bog down and easily cut through 20 to 30 pieces of square stock iron while making a gate. I experienced none of the shaft wobble or noises that others have mentioned in their reviews. So, QC might be a little lacking from this brand but the tool that I received was great with no flaws that I have found as of yet. But make sure you read the description, this tool does NOT come with batteries and takes the Milwaukee M18 style batteries. ... show more

  • Not as powerful as the Milwaukee version, but will do for most jobs
So this cordless Milwaukee compatible angle grinder is fairly straightforward and does work as expected on the majority of jobs. I needed something that had a little bit more power as I stuck a wire brush attachment on it and it tends to bog down and then the battery shuts off. Release the trigger and restart and it works fine for a little while longer. I tried this with multiple batteries and had the same experience which leads me to believe that the motor is either underpowered just slightly or that there is an oversensitive current draw shut off in the device. Assembly was simple and my only complaint was that the shield which is held in with a Phillips screwdriver band type clamp makes it somewhat difficult to get it tight in certain positions. I would rather an allen wrench type screw in that spot because the Phillips bit is less likely to have in an l-shaped screwdriver like is really needed to tighten this properly. If it's both my OEM and aftermarket Milwaukee batteries and aside from the low current shut off works exactly as I expected a cordless grinder to work. Ergonomically the and spatially, thebattery position is well balanced but a little awkward compared to others that I've used with a battery going in lengthwise or horizontal. Milwaukee batteries are large in general so it could be a problem depending on where you're trying to use it at. Give some consideration before you purchase any cordless tool to make sure that it'll fit for your needs. ... show more

  • 8500 RPM Maximum. For the price, it's actually pretty good for light duty.
Maximum RPM according to the manual is 8500 RPM. For comparison, both of my corded angle grinders are rated at 13,000 RPM, which is about typical. The slower speed and slower acceleration of the cutting tool is immediately noticeable using an M18 XC4.0 battery. I would estimate it to be approximately half as powerful as a normal 4 1/2" corded angle grinder. I noticed other reviews said that there was no bogging down or plenty of power, but that only applies on thinner stuff. Grinding can be a bit of an exercise in patience with this thing, too. There's no trigger safety or off switch apart from pulling the battery out, which can definitely be a safety issue in some households. Also, it necessitates some care in picking up the grinder. There's enough power for cutting and grinding, as long as you're not in a hurry. I cut through 4" wide 3/16" wall c-channel using this grinder with a cutoff wheel, and the lack of RPM made for somewhat slow cutting. However, I made it through in less than a minute without being aggressive. It will get the job done. I had to cut through some 16 ga sheet steel, and this grinder will at least zip through sheet metal in a hurry. I also ground off the heads of two 1/2" carriage bolts, and grinding is where the lack of torque really shows. With a Weller grinding disk marketed as "aggressive," it took more than twice as long as I was expecting it to. It's easy to apply enough pressure to stop this grinder during actual grinding. It's much better suited to cutting, but again, it will get the job done. Eventually. If you have M18 batteries and need to cut through light stuff often and heavy stuff occasionally (like I do), the convenience is great. I'm focusing on the limitations here to help buyers know what they're getting, but I'm surprised by how much I like having a no-name cordless grinder in my toolbox. It's a great fit for my needs, which are 90% working on cars and 10% household miscellany. For years I've been unable to justify the price of the actual M18 angle grinders, and so far this has been a good way to get basic cordless capability for light-duty steel work. ... show more
