Arrived today, so I cant yet say how strong the thread is (I will add to this review if any problems arise), but it is a decent little kit - for the price - for taking on vaca for small jobs. Referring to some points made by other reviewers: yes, the thread coils are quite small. But they appear to have more than enough thread to do a few simple jobs each. And there are two each of black and white, and three of light beige, which somewhat compensates for the lack of length. You will eventually need to buy more thread. By small jobs I mean re-attaching buttons, hopefully sewing a hatband onto a felt fedora (why I got it), but I wouldn't expect it to sew up a large rip in pants. As to difficulty in opening the case with the needles, there is a tiny piece of hard-to-see transparent tape securing it in place. This must be removed. After that, the black back piece is pretty easy to remove from the transparent part that actually holds the needles. When you remove that back piece, make sure it is/was on the top side, and hold the case perfectly flat, so no needles will not fall out even if the "hole" happens to be aligned with a needle "slot". Assuming needles dont start falling out, look at the side edge of the transparent part (it is opaque in places, but not the black backing.) You will see a gap at one point. To remove needles you need to rotate the transparent piece until the gap is over the "exit" slot for the needles you want to use. It is fairly difficult to rotate, use two opposing thumbs to turn it. Keep the whole thing level horizontally while you are turning the plastic, because whenever the "gap" goes over an "exit slot", if it's not perfectly level a bunch of needles will fall out. As a beginner, the hardest part is getting the thread into the needle. This kit comes with two threaders, which help a little but its still difficult for an old fogey like me with shaky hands and non perfect eyesight to do. The biggest help for me is this very useful device I got somewhere a long time ago, maybe at a surplus store, a jewelers loupe (?) which is a thing with a strap that goes around your head, a little light, and a strong magnifying glass that goes down over you eyes. That brings intense magnification to bear while leaving your hands free. But you probably wont take that on vacation, so, get a pair of strong reading/magnifying gasses (get them at a dollar store, they are way too expensive elsewhere). Also, the thimble is a ring with no top, which may actually be more useful than a regular one since I push the needles with my finger tip, not the top of my finger. We'll see. Thats a pretty long review for a $7 item, and I will add to it after I actually try it. OK,adding now after first use, sewing a hatband onto a felt hat. First, the thread is weak. It broke on me once when pulling through the felt. Thread is fuzzy, obviously not a strong polyester. Also, I was wrong about their 'ring' thimble being OK. A real thimble works much better. You get what you pay for.

l had just bought the shirt at the Store. And the first time I wore it out for the day was at a kid's birthday party. I noticed the tear on one Side of the Shirt, but not the other. It looked like one cut it with scissors very deliberately and it was unraveling at the seams. I tucked it in for the rest of the party But I do have a psychotic roommate. So I wouldn't put it past her especially since I didn't notice the shirt until I was at the birthday party oddly and awkwardly unraveling despite all that. And focused on the kit I am happy with the color options the thred. I like the the sewing needles that have are two-toned which does make it easier to see and they are prettier and easier on the eyes. Also I like the other items that it comes with, I have never also never experienced such a sturdy needle threader. I decided on the llamas because it stands out. It is a small kit, that I would like to keep track of. The llama and color design helps it not get easily misplaced. Perfect for traveling or Storing in drawer. I'm not an expert at sewing but I this is a good lil sewing Kit. Before this, I only ever bought sewing kits from the dollar store this is definitely big upgrade for a few extra dollars

I enjoyed this kit. it's useful, the scissors are sharp and it's a good size. However, there does not need to be that many different spools of thread. I assume the reason it comes with so many is to appear like a good deal, but there is no need to have that many colors. There is barely any thread on each spool because of this, and you end up running out of the colors you need and ending up with a bunch of random colors that nobody would reasonably use. Half the time seams aren't even visible, so what's the point of the like three different shades of one color included? If you want to embroider, get embroidery floss because thread is not made for it. The pencil is useless and I don't really know what the point of it is. Same with the magnifying glass, when will I ever use that? Anyways, for what it is it's a good kit. The major flaw in it is that there is a deceptively small amount of thread.

I am not a sewing person, I do have a sewing machine that sits nicely in my storage unit. So again I am not a good sewer. However I do find myself in situations such as my throw pillow tore a little in the corner, or my husbands shorts got a hole in the pocket, just little mini fixes we occasionally get in life. But since I am not a sewer I do not have needle and thread lying around for me to do quick fixes. I also did not want to put in the time to buy needs, different colored threat, pins, etc. Price wise, it can add up. This was the perfect kit! It has enough colored thread that it will last me forever, again I do not sew, but I do occasionally have small fixes so to me it will last forever. It has every size needle imaginable if I ever find a need for a very large need or a super tiny tiny needle, if I need it, I will have it. There were other cool additions as well such as scissors, thimble, magnifying glass, fabric pencil, etc. A few things I do not even know what they were for but you got em! The size is perfect for those of us lacking on space, its thin and small that it can be stored anywhere. Keep in mind for the picture with my hand, my family say I have "baby hands" so it is a really small, fully stocked kit, love it! Highly recommend for those that randomly need a needle and thread but probably wont need it again for years and years.

It does give everything you need to sew, but you might wanna get some spare tape measurer; it broke very easily, like I am talking about breaking in ten uses type bad. The fabric is just horrible, so better to just get some spares and not cheap out and think this will last forever.
