  • Very good quality hatchet
I have owned this hatchet for nearly two years now. I have used this hatchet for many things, from bowyery to splitting firewood while camping. This little hatchet has been used extensively for two years now and it has hardly weathered. Its hickory handle is extremely strong and the only maintenance I have had to do on it so far is drive a new wedge into the top. The head of the hatchet seems to be made of relatively high quality, relatively hard steel. The edge dulls very slowly, but it does take a while to resharpen to shaving sharpness. In two years I have only had to sharpen it maybe 6 times, and I have used it quite a bit. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a good outdoor hatchet that is an alternative to a high quality hatchet like the Gransfors Brooks. ... show more

  • Great little tool. Taken 10 years of abuse from me
I have had this hatchet since 2016. Taken it on some serious trips. Left it outside for months on end. I just refinished it as the finish was getting rough looking. For the price it’s tough to beat. Coming up on 10 years of abuse. If you remove the finish and treat it with boiled linseed oil once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, you will more than love this. ... show more

  • Looking for the Marble's Camp Axe?
I bought this as a gift for a farmer friend that has been helping me out with my garden. He was interested in my Marble's camp axe, which is very similar. Since some may be interested in this axe because of Wranglerstar's review of the oft-scarce Marble's axe, permit me to do a comparison review. Holding these up side by side, it becomes apparent that the heads are almost identical. This one is stamped with Condor instead of Marble's. There is also a stamp of "El Salvador" near the back -- where the axe was made. I don't mind, except that the letters are deep and are located right where I would center punch a pivot point for sharpening. I will punch a point, but it will have to be at least a quarter inch from the back, instead of an eighth. Still, the heads are identical, it comes with a somewhat polished edge which is dull. This blade will hold an edge for a reasonable amount of work, unless abused in dirt and rocks of course. The handle is very beefy, as other reviews pointed out. By comparison, the Marble's handle looks slender and dainty. The Condor handle has a safety warning printed on the reverse in English and Spanish -- it's just a lot of blackness blocking out my view of the wood grain. I have half a mind to remove all of it with a spokeshave or orbital sander. For some reason, the wood is darker than the Marble's, I doubt it is hickory but it seems stout given its thickness. This fits a large-handed individual well, and it has a much larger fawn's foot than the Marble's, which was a little on the small side. The grain orientation on mine was diagonal-ish toward the base, but almost straight on top, so I couldn't find fault there. Overall, this IS the Marble's camp axe albeit with a bigger handle that well, might not be hickory given the color. It is NOT varnished and will receive a linseed oil treatment without any sanding etc. Lastly, the sheath it comes with is great, they used ample leather to cover the top area and there is a hole rivet near the heel of the blade. Using this hold, the axe could be hung horizontally, blade facing up. The sheath is a bit snug and therefore difficult to wrap around the back and snap. I'm sure once I put a proper edge on the blade, there will be a little more wiggle room to made it convenient. It's definitely a better looking sheath than one I could make. This axe is a great value given the sheath it comes with. ... show more

  • Comes with a nice mask that isn't pictured for some reason
This axe overall is a great value. For me it has handled a lot of use and has held up great and shown to be reliable. most of all it comes with a nice heavy leather snap strap mask that really makes it a reasonable priced package. I don't understand why they would neglect to have an images of the mask. I pulled a quick pic only to show the mask, I don't believe it is the same axe as the length looks longer. Either way it IS the same mask and its pretty nice :) ... show more

  • Decent axe for your money
Overall it is a nice little axe, I got it to go winter camping with most specifically. I was miss led a little bit with its appearance...it looks hand forged from the picture, but it is only an effect, it is not actually hand forged. I like my axes to be razor sharp, which it arrived with something to be desired, and it took some time with a honing wheel to get the edge I wanted. Also the axe head was loose when it arrived. The handle is not the best design as it is very stocky for such a small head, but it was made in a way that the head could not be pounded down. So I had to carefully carve at the base of the head so it tapered so the axe head slide down. I will be carving my own handle for it in near future. It also has a nice leather sheath. It is a nice little pack axe, and for 45 dollars I cannot complain too much. However it is no Wettlerings. ... show more

  • Amazing small axe.
This Axe is absolutely amazing. Yes, I said Axe. In my opinion, it is a tad too heavy and the handle is very beefy for a Hatchet. After a bit of time with a few files and axe stones, it holds a strong, sharp edge. Its edge is a bit thick for carving but can still preform adequately. I've split roughly a weeks worth of firewood with this axe so far, including pine, juniper, seasoned maple and seasoned oak. This split all that and asked for more. Buy it, you won't regret it. ... show more

  • Very nice axe
Overall quality and fit & finish is top notch. The mask/sheath is super nice. The size/shape of the handle is perfect (for my large-ish hands), and grain orientation is perfect. My only con is that the cheeks are a bit thick, but that's not a big deal. For a little over a year now I've used this axe for splitting firewood while camping, and for various little bushcraft projects, and it has always been great at these tasks. ... show more
