The attached ladder can be placed on either the left or right side of the bed. The bed includes a 14 piece slat foundation - no box spring is needed. My daughter is 6 now, we got it for her when she was 3. It has stood the test of time of her jumping up and down on it (which I don't recommend, but kids will be kids) and sleepless nights when I had to crawl into bed and lay with her until she fell asleep. I believe I recall 200 lbs being the max, but I've test the wood and all is intact and showing no signs of giving way. I'd say between 230 to 265 lbs would be about the total weight with both of us over the three years and no issue. Cons: It is hard for one person to put it together. My husband was putting it together, but dropped part on his foot because another person really is needed to hold the ends while assembling. The parts are labeled well so it makes it easy to lay it out and assemble with at least two people. I had to help my husband. Bed does wobble a bit, but putting up against a wall has been helpful. However, the screws and wood boards under the mattress do not budge, so I assume it's the legs. Pros: Stands the test of time, aesthetically pleasing, great for large or small rooms. My daughter has a relatively small room and I was able to remove her toys from the living room and place them under the bed in toy boxes due to the loft style. This bed was very easy to assemble, it’s very sturdy, i love the color and there’s so much storage space underneath! I’ll start with the pros, as always. The first is ease of assembly! I’m a 19 year old female of average build and I was able to put this together in about three hours by myself with just a screwdriver. I did choose to leave the railing off because, well I’m 19 I don’t think I need a railing! This came with no broken pieces. One piece did have some cosmetic damage but I might have done that so, take it as you will. For sturdiness, I’ve thrown myself onto this bed repeatedly and it barely even shakes. My dogs jump on it, I jump on it, and it holds through it all. As for storage space, I really feel like I can fit more in my small room now! Beds take up a lot of space, so it’s nice to have some under bed space with this one. There aren’t many cons honestly. The bed comes with a little allen key to put it together but I honestly suggest getting yourself a nice ratcheting screwdriver with a hex head and a philips head. You’ll need the screwdriver anyway, one is not included. This bed is also very heavy and awkward to move, so I suggest building it where you plan on keeping it. Overall, amazing purchase, I’m glad I made it. The bed is everything I expected. If you’re looking to buy this bed, do it, just make sure you have a good screwdriver :) ... show more

We got this bed frame for our 7 year old with the intent of keeping it until she is 12-13. First off- it is HEAVY. We recommend a dolly or two people to lift or move it so you don’t damage it or other things in your house trying to move it. If you are completely solo, lay out a rug and drag the rug. Main concerns people mentioned were that it was hard to assemble and that it wasn’t very sturdy. We disagree with both. For us, it was 1 adult all the way, a second adult helping occasionally and our 7 year old as a side kick to the main adult on the project. Really, a single adult could probably handle it fine aside from moving the box as a whole. Everything arrived in excellent condition and VERY early (3 days before predicted delivery- a surprise with COVID19 causing delivery disruption). The half loft space is enough for a few bean bags and a play area for our 7 year old and the 4 year old sibling. It is a cute play space that expands the amount of room given that there is a full sized bed inside the space. It fits a regular full size mattress on top. The slat bed design is much sturdier than we expected, with each slat screwed into the frame. It says it holds 500lbs. We haven’t tested that limit. But our 7 year old and 4 year old have been up there together (total 85lbs). I plan to be up there for bedtime story with our 7 year old (would be about 215lbs combined). We have made it abundantly clear that they are not allowed to jump on the bed. Given that are kids are small, I actually think this bed might handle it- but of course- I do NOT want to challenge this!
