  • No longer frustrated!
Color: Lp1 Mini(gold)
Read till the end. This experience started very badly and I was almost ready to return it. But I persisted with troubleshooting and finally got it to work ------ I wanted this to burn simple things into wood (names, my logo, etc)... I wanted to use it on a PC. To connect BT to the PC, a PIN is required. Several messages to customer support didn't provide an answer. Language is definitely an issue.... all provided documents are in broken English, and support doesn't understand what I'm asking. So I tried my phone instead. Thought I was on the right track--- went to burn my first test, and got a firmware error... update firmware it said. Ok. Then, when I try to update it, I get "can't update firmware" message. The price was right, and the packing is very nice, but unless support can get me burning soon, it's going back Edit UPDATE: Customer support never got back to me to help, but I discovered there was an alternate version of the Bluetooth driver that could be downloaded. I believe it was the community version. That didn't require an outside pin (You do have to create an account and a six digit pin that has to be entered often. Choose a number that you can remember easily) I have successfully burned into oak, pine, and mahogany. Realistically, these were all tests but a seven character burn. That was about 2 and 1/2 in long and 3/4 of an inch high. Took about 5 minutes. I'm cool with that... If you get this, you're going to have to be persistent in your troubleshooting to get it working. I would not rely on customer support. It's a pretty cool little device, and highly portable not to mention affordable. I have used a Glowforge. This isn't that, but then again, it's not thousands of dollars and it's portable! ... show more

  • All I can say is WOW!!!!
Color: LP1 Pro
I am having so much fun evolving from a retired knowledge worker to creating woodworking functional art pieces. I generally use reclaimed hardwoods found in Hawaii such as Koa, Monkey Pod, Milo (Pacific Rosewood), and Eucalyptus to name a few. I am learning so much and have given myself a very creative and satisfying outlet. I was looking for something that could give me the professional look of a logo and signature on my pieces while still providing the flexibility of combining customized information related to the wood species and the date of the piece. Additionally, the solution had to be priced in a range my new business could afford. My general feedback is WOW!!! Such a great tool in a small and affordable package! Don't let the looks of the smallness of the LaserPecker fool you into thinking this is just a cheap toy. I can tell you, it is not! I've tested the LaserPecker using a graphic design I custom made using Microsoft Word on an iMac and have the LaserPecker software installed on my iPhone. I save the graphic (the arched Trade Marked business name "Makana Originals", the maker's mark, and the Copyright symbol portion of the attached photograph) from MS Word as a ".png" file on my iMac. I then access the graphic remotely through my iPhone via LaserPecker's application's "Album" functionality on the app's home screen. That functionality accesses my iPhone Photo albums. I added the date "July, 2023" and "Monkey Pod" information using LaserPecker's application built in functionality. That took less than a couple of minutes In order to visualize placement of your burn, LaserPecker provides a very useful "Preview" capability which draws a non-etching rectangular laser outline of your graphic. "Preview" can also show the center location of the graphic. Be sure to increase the intensity of the light. The application defaults to the light being very dim and I wasn't able to see it at first. Setup and use of the LaserPecker was much easier and intuitive than I expected. The engraving was exactly what I was looking for. Their "How to engrave perfectly" documentation was especially useful! The difficulties which I spent most of my time resolving were mostly related to where MacOS (iMac) and iOS (iPhone) save and expect to find shared files. Also, Microsoft's version of MacOS Word is a bit challenging. But the Internet was very helpful in answering any questions I had. Of course, this issue has a little to do with the usability of LaserPecker's application. But I was able to finally figure out where the application was looking for the graphic. Even though my testing has, so far, been strictly limited to my use of a single custom graphic and some type-written words, I can say without any reservation that their application was easy to set up and use. Simply said, the interface is intuitive and flexible. I was up and running in a matter of a few minutes. Familiarizing myself with the application's interface and functionality took less than an hour. Figuring out how to use and access a custom graphics took a few hours spanned over a couple of days. Fine tuning my logo burn was a matter of several tests taking place over a couple of hours.. If you plan on using most of LaserPecker's built-in graphics or typing, you'll be working in no time. Bottom line - I'm up and running! I received my LaserPecker mid-day Thursday, and etched the piece in the attached picture by Saturday morning. So far, I couldn't be happier with my purchase!! ... show more

  • A great place to start...
Color: Lp1 Mini(gold)
The media could not be loaded. TL;DR: I am stoked to have this for small, amateur, one-off projects. A professional might scoff at it. Perfect for small crafts and the curious, but might be too limited for more serious projects. I purchased this little dude as a way of "quickly" completing a massive project for a festival. I haven't so much as taken a shortcut, but found a way to complete a long task at a higher quality. I would say that this is a great place to start if you are doing small projects or just want to tinker. I imagine professionals would skip this device altogether. First, the project must be small. The largest area you can engrave is about 4"x1.5". Second, not a super fast process. Each engraving of the graphic seen in my picks took from 7-15 minutes. Not great if you are trying to do 3000 engravings in less than 2 months. Perfect if you want to far far fewer. Third, the quality can be pretty inconsistent. On paper, this thing is bulletproof, but I was engraving wood rounds. Different surfaces react differently with the laser. Fourth, despite being billed as "portable" this little dude requires specific conditions to get good results -- namely 200mm from the engraving surface. Maybe they should market it as "easy to store" instead, because you will need to pack this thing with lots of tools to get the best results (e.g. ruler, level, tripod, fan, power cable, etc). Sixth, the product/app would benefit from a starter guide that walked you through the app's functionality. You can figure it out on your own, but if you are not a person who likes to do that then you might be frustrated. The app could use some UI work. I started with their older app, then upgraded to LP2. I love that they added the "gallery", which stores the images in the app -- instead of opening my camera roll each time and forcing me to scroll to my design. I do wish there was a way to change it from millimeters to inches. The older app had this feature. ... show more
