Super inexpensive - I paid about $10. They are not sharp out the box, but can be sharpened with a Dremel tool and are fine for the homeowner with an occasional wood project. These do not seem to be made of high speed steel as I had one fuzz up on me drilling sheet metal. For the money though, you get a tool that seems to work well with wood. Longevity? .. After a few uses the countersinks just spin around the drill bit, cannot tighten, very disappointed. ALSO the bits are too long for most projects and the countersink cannot be adjust that shallow. I switched to a Kreg flip bit, cost more but does the job

    • Don't buy it for the spring loaded center punch. It's garbage

I bought this for the counter sink tools on wood which it works okay for. The spring loaded center punch is garbage. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't and does not work very well. I've been using a sterrett one for years and I love it but I wanted one I could take with me to places and would not care about losing it. I used them a few times and have had no problems so far. Time will tell but I see foreseeable issues. I wish they would come in packaging other than hard to open plastic that's hard to reuse but that's a very minor thought and not a complaint.

Among the 4000+ reviews, there is debate about how well these inexpensive countersinks work. So I tested them in some Red Oak. The top row of the photo were drilled with the countersinks right out of the box: these are the first holes drilled by these bits. The lower row were drilled after I sharpened the countersinks. To sharpen them I used a Dremel tool with a cutoff disk and just touched each cutting surface, which took a total of about 10 minutes. I drilled the holes with a cordless drill to judge how much effort I had to exert to drill the holes. No surprise, the bits worked better after they were sharpened, particularly the larger bits. Before sharpening, the two largest bits required quite a bit of pressure to get them to drill. But I really can't tell much difference between the "before" and "after" holes. I'd buy these again, and I would sharpen them before use. They should be sharp when new, hence the 4 rather than 5 stars. ... show more
