When I saw this ice cone maker, I didn't think it could really work. Not that well at least. I was wrong. This thing actually works great. You get a lot of shaved ice fast, with hardly no work. The whole thing comes pre-assembled, you just have to screw the handle on, and it is ready to go. It comes with everything you need, except flavoring. It is very easy to use, and safe even for kids. Adults just load the ice, and let them do the work. No worries, it is very easy. The handle turns way easier than I thought it would, and shaves ultra fine snow. It comes with a bowl, that makes a perfect size ice block to be used in the device. Just fill it, cover it, and wait for it to freeze. When it is solid, simply pop it out of the container, which happens easily, and place it upside down in top of the device. When you go to put the lid on, you will realize it is spring loaded. This is actually an awesome feature, that keeps even pressure on the ice, so you don't have to push down while turning the handle. It does it for you, just turn the handle and it presses down well the ice is rotating. One Ice Cube does make quite a bit of snow, if you are having a bunch of guests, you may want to freeze several ice blocks reusing the same container they gave you, but storing them in a different Bowl until the guests arrive. Then, you can have all the snow you want. You just don't want to run out, nobody likes waiting on ice. Overall, this is a great device, not just a novelty. This doesn't shave as smooth as I would like, however it is super easy to use. There is a container to freeze the ice that is just the right size. It makes one at a time, so you'll want to freeze several discs if you have a crowd. Also it doesn't shave the disc all the way down.

The instructions are well written and clear, but I want to add two things. The product does have a sharp blade for shaving the ice. It ships with a protective clear circle of plastic over this blade. If you forget to remove it, it won't shave ice. Don't ask how I know this. The second thing is that, if you wipe out the inside of the product, which you should not have to, because it is only clean ice going through it and a rinse would suffice, your fingers could find the blade. Thankfully, my observational skills kicked in and saved me. Some assembly is required, and I managed to do it in less than a minute without reading the directions. I only read the instructions to make sure I did it right - standard operating procedure for a guy. It comes with a collection tray, and a little container with a lid, I assume for storage in the freezer. They handle is ergonomic, has a spinner knob, but most importantly, has a brass insert to properly couple onto the steel shaft which drives the plate that turns the ice. The plate has four steel spikes to grip the ice cubes. I could not determine how the plate is attached to the shaft, but judging by the rest of the construction, they did it right. I did use an ohmeter to see if the steel shaft and the four steel spikes were one piece. No continuity, so not one piece. The plastic pieces are thick and it has a quality feel. Easy to clean, just rinse it out, air dry. Would be great on picnics, even on car trips. I like it, and I think you will too. With a bunch of kids, this will pay for itself in just one party. ... show more
