This seems to be a solid, useful winch. Although I have not used it in action yet, I wanted something like this handy to help remove fallen trees on my property, which happens on occasion. It took me a while to figure out how to unlock it to pull the cable out, but the instructions do point it out. You not only have to unlock the pawl, which is straightforward, but you also have to slide the spring on the other side that holds the gear teeth in place. It didn't seem like that would be enough to free up the reel, but it does. Other than that it seems easy enough to use. I worry a little bit about the advertised strength, but hopefully will never need to test it to that limit.
