  • Love this machine-definitely have gotten great use out of it so far
Color: Green-a
I have always wanted a reason to buy one of these, and I finally got my wish. Overall, super easy to use, the only times I have had issues is due to user error.-I did not ensure that the paper was pushed back the entire way so when I went to make the holes, it cut off the edges. Easy to put together and the handle allows for removal for easy storage. I do have to remember to empty out the tray, so be mindful of that in case it becomes too full. I think it is a great value for the price that I paid. ... show more

  • A Comb Binding Machine, Not Spiral, But It Works
This MakShein Spiral Binding Machine is a good and useful product, if misnamed. It isn't a spiral binding machine but is instead a comb binding machine. It punches 10 sheets at a time without issue; I haven't tried a greater number. It opens the combs well, as is needed with the 5mm combs included with the machine. This is my first binding machine and I like it. The holes punch cleanly, but the first few punches should be with scrap paper in order to clean what I assume is a protective oil from the cutters. I had seen dark marks around the punched holes in the first set I'd punched, but all subsequent punches were clean, both clean cut and clean of oil. The machine itself is worthy of four stars, but the included instructions were inadequate to the point of being essentially useless. Setup and hole-punching were easy and fairly self-evident, but using the machine for the combs was a head scratcher for me. I'd never before seen one in use and could not figure out how to use the comb insertion feature. This was easily remedied with a quick Internet search and video, but clear instructions would have been nice. One star removed for the instructions. I'd rate the device itself as four-stars. It isn't the most sturdy, but is certainly sturdy enough. When adjusting for paper length, I'd had to reach underneath to place a finger on a nut to get it go tighten; a subsequent adjustment worked as it should have, without having to touch the appropriate nut underneath. The handle jiggles around a little, not affecting the machine's performance at all. I only give five-stars to products that are stellar, setting the mark for others to follow. I don't think this unit sets the standard, but it follows the standard quite well. I am very glad to have this binding machine and, had I paid for it (I'd received it as a review unit with Amazon's Vine program), I would have gotten a very good value for the money. It is heavy enough that it doesn't slide around while using it and feels very sturdy, but it isn't so heavy that moving it around would be an issue, nor would storing it upon a shelf. This is a nice binding machine that will see some good use; the three-ring binders will find other uses. I have only done a few binding jobs so far, but I haven't found the MakShein to be lacking at all when considered against its design parameters: up to 12 sheets punched at a time and combs up to 2 inches. This is a four star product with one star instructions, instructions that really aren't necessary if you are near a computer to surf for generic comb binder instructions. This is a good purchase. ... show more

  • Solid Machine Once You Figure It Out Solid Machine Once You Figure It Out
Color: Green-a
This binding machine is pretty sturdy and works well once you get the hang of it, but the instructions don’t really help much. It took me a bit to realize the handle has to be in a very specific position before it will punch correctly. After I figured that out, it’s been smooth sailing. I tried punching about 10 pages at a time, and it went through without any issues. The pages lined up nicely and I didn’t run into any jams or uneven holes. Binding with the included combs feels secure, and they seem durable, though I wish they had thrown in a mix of different sizes instead of just one and some plastic covers too. The machine itself feels solid and has some heft to it. Only the cover is plastic, everything else feels strong and built to last. I’ve mostly used it for making small reports, and so far it’s been more than enough for my needs. It’s easy to use now that I know the quirks, but I can see it being a little heavy to move around if you don’t want something bulky. Overall, I like it. It does the job well, feels sturdy, and once you figure out the handle thing, it’s really easy to use. ... show more

  • Meh Meh
Color: Silver-a
This hole punches well and is quite easy to put together. However, actually using it to bind isn't very easy. You have to watch a low quality video that really doesn't show you how you're supposed to place the comb because the video quality is so low quality. It doesn't even tell you that you have to push on the back of the come when pulling back so that it works correctly or that you should slowly open the comb because the comb this machine comes with is the smallest size, and only olds up to 20 pieces of paper. Trying to add the paper to the comb following the directions is basically impossible. I think this is mostly because of how small a 20-sheet comb is, so there isn't really room to move the papers onto the comb. You'd basically have to do it one by one which is an absolute pain. I found that putting the paper on the opposite end, opening the comb all the way so that it slams shut, and then pulling it off, and scooting the comb down/up works much better--especially if you're using a little less than 20 sheets like 15. ... show more
