I bought a Patagonia version as I have 40 year’s experience with them, not good after a few washings, collar goes funny and hangs puckered. REI’s is too thin and has the same puckered quality that makes it hang sloppily. Columbia quality is tops. Hangs neatly, fabric is heavier, more plush, zipper is YKK. After washing, the fabric retains its shape and doesn’t contract in ugly ways. My wife has had a black one for work that she wears every day. She works frozen food. After years of weekly washing it is still plush and retains its shape, no pilling like the Patagonia, and thicker than the REl for much less. That’s good enough for me. Bought the heather gray zip-up from the same seller and it was a different material. This seems to be of a more "crushed", shorter fleece and not FULL fleece like the heather gray one I bought before. This isn't a big issue for me besides that the two items were advertised as the same. They definitely aren't. I can't tell whether this one is a knock-off or just a different Columbia garment altogether. Also I have seen arguments in the reviews whether or not this garment is actually black. Even being shiny, crushed-style fleece.. this doesn't look black at all, does it? It can't decide whether it wants to be charcoal gray or navy blue. Overall, it is a great garment. Overall, a good fleece jacket for fall, and zippered pockets are welcome. However, the color (red onion / black) was not quite how it appeared in the picture. Red onions are a shade of purple, and while the coat looks dark red, it is actually purple like onions. I attached 2 pictures, one with the coat under indoor lighting and one by a big window for outdoor lighting. You'll notice they appear slightly differently, so beware.
