Luckily I tried these on locally at Dicks Sporting Goods, who didn't have the color I wanted, otherwise I'd be exchanging these for the next size smaller than I normally wear in regular(not baggy) jeans and pants but as I knew they ran large, these fit perfect ordering one 2" smaller than I normally wear. I like that the nylon isn't the "stretchy" spandex infused that seem to be more common nowadays and tends to grow in size as you wear them and they also tend to look bad after 6-months or so because the white spandex threads break and start poking through the fabric, particularly in the crotch area, I'm sure these shorts won't have that problem not having spandex or being stretchy. Also note for those who want a physically lighter pair of shorts to avoid the spandex shorts as they probably weigh half again as much as these Columbia shorts. In my size and with belt these shorts weighed 9.4oz, one of my stretchy pair of shorts weighed 13.2oz and the other technical one weighed 15.3oz. The nylon itself is nice and not shiny and stiff but rather soft and a flat finish. I like the quick-release belt buckle but am a little worried about how it will hold up as the buckle looks and feels a bit fragile, but time will tell. Note even though I purchased a size 2" smaller than I normally wear the belt has a good 6" left after cinching it around my waist. I also like how the cargo pockets stay flat against my leg and are not poofy, well I guess unless you overpack them, I just put a cell phone on one side and a wallet on the other which are both thin and hardly noticeable. I like it has 6 pockets but not particularly fond the cargo pockets has one side that zips on the side!(I read negative reviews about this so I knew what I was getting) and the other side doesn't zip but rather has a fold-over top with a tab of velcro. Neither cargo pockets are ideal but they do the job and look good. Another negative is the side hand pockets aren't particularly deep, would have preferred them to be a inch or two deeper but not as shallow as some pants I immediately return, these are acceptable IMO. All in all some nice shorts and note I like them better than a similar Columbia nylon short that are also called Silver Ridge but don't say "utility" cargo on the tag. I believe these might be a prior years model but I like this design much better than the new design I'd have probably returned. Also nice I saved a bit over $10 compared to Dicks but pricing on Amazon does seem to vary a bit by color and sizing, Dicks was the same retail fifty bucks no matter size or color. I also ordered a pair of Free Soldier cargo shorts with belt off Amazon and they have nicer deeper pockets, a bit heavier duty nylon belt and buckle but not quick release and a slightly odd design IMO but is the stretchy spandex fabric which is already starting to grow in size so I kinda wish I'd ordered those 2" smaller too. Those shorts are more what I'd call "technical" compared to these Columbia shorts but some might like the less "technical" look of the Columbia ones reviewed here and I'll be keeping both.

I need another pair. I wear them all the time. They are incredibly comfortable and have pockets in all the right places. The semi-stretch waist is especially nice when going from sitting a lot (driving) to walking. Very durable too, my old pair of a similar short from Columbia with the same fabric, is still going strong after something like 8 years.
