I compared this item to several pairs of cargo shorts purchased from a clothing "seconds" reseller. Often high quality expensive items ended up here simply because the size label was incorrect, or stitching was slightly off. Yet those were well made and lasted nearly a decade. The Wrangler brand used to represent a quality pair of jeans, years ago. Pros: Main advantage: The fit is as advertised and comfortable in the crotch region and waistline. The fabric is thin, this may be what you want if you prefer a lighter fabric. There are 5 smaller cargo pockets instead of 2 large ones. It uses Velcro pocket closures. A side point regarding fit is that the crotch and groin region is snug in the Amazon Basics cargo shorts. It's "fine" if you never sit down. This item, https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JQTPQDQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Cons: Main disadvantage: On a dayhike the old shorts mentioned above could carry a sandwich and a deflated bag of chips or small water bottle. You won't be able to do that with these shorts, but you could carry all sorts of tiny doohickeys from your junk drawer such as marbles. The larger of the 5 side pocket could not carry my smartphone. In addition, the fabric is thin and is likely not durable, another one of the "cheap disposable clothing". I can live with the Velcro but like buttons. These cargo shorts are very comfortable and look good. I wouldn't go camping or hiking in these because they are fairly light weight, but that's a bonus feature for lounging around and going out in the hot summer weather. Bought a second pair and might get more.

    • Zipper broke on third wear!

As far as the quality of material, these were a bit weighty but if you're seeking quality in material weight is most often a good thing! So as far as the quality of the material these are of very good quality. My husband liked them so much I ordered a diff color of camouflage pattern. He is a senior lead Service Technician & Trainer of HVAC. So he wasn't wanting regular shorts as he uses his pockets to store small supplies, materials & tools so obviously these style are an excellent choice for anyone in his field, & or construction industry! However, while I can't say these are great shorts due to the fact on his third time wearing them to work his zipper broke. I did order him another pair days after him getting these yet those took a month to get here and apparently were just now misdelivered to my neighbors (still have to go grab them). Wish I could give an update and tell you they are great shorts but the fact he hasn't worn his other pair yet I'm leaving you with, he loves the quality and design of the shorts mostly though the extra side pockets are large enough he can store a couple hand tools while working in them. But, the misfortune of the zipper having broke within the 3rd time of wearing them isn't satisfying.... But I do know things happen so I wld still give a positive review bc of mere quality and design! ... show more
