  • Stood up to strong storms
Size: 4-Person Style: Contains Pfas
It has been 3 years since I bought this tent. We have camped a few times and never had any trouble with it and have been perfectly happy with it. But, the reality was that it hadn't been put to the test yet. I couldn't give a strong review from only experience under light or moderate conditions. All tents are good when it is relatively dry with little wind, etc. But, now I can verify that this is one tough tent! I don't give out praise lightly. My son and I camped on the shore of a rather large lake in mid-late August, 20-22. The first night about 9:30 the thunder started and the wind picked up. We moved our game and food into the tent. I knew strong thunderstorms were expected in the area. I was hoping they would glance or miss us as summer storms sometimes do. Nope. The whole time we were lying on our sleeping bags playing Yahtzee, the storm's intensity grew quickly. We kept looking at each other as crashes of lightning hit close and the wind was straining the tent around us. The whole time as the father I was working out the best contingency plans if the worst happened. I was sure it would. Mind you, we were on the east end of the lake. Our weather comes from the west. This lake is tucked between some pretty tall hills. So the wind is funneled. Sideways rain was driven by constant winds between 20-30 mph and gusts to about 35-45 mph. This lasted about 1/2 hour-hour. What's more our door, which doesn't have the direct rain fly cover, was facing the lake (for the view). When the storm ( that wasn't the end of the harsh weather, just the wind) passed, there was a slight seepage on the windward facing door wall to be dabbed up with a towel. The tent was entirely intact. To add, somewhere about 3 AM there was a torrential downpour that lasted at least a half hour, up to 1 1/2 hour. Not a drop inside. Folks, this was the kind of storm that all the locals were talking about and asking each other how much property damage they had incurred, when we went into town to have breakfast because the fire pit and all the wood was drenched. Now, I can honestly write a good review. The darkening features; compactness to small size when packed and ease of set up are great. But that tent will hold up in very tough storm conditions. You can hike out with confidence when you don't have a retreat option readily available. (I wilderness hike too) ... show more

  • Awesome tent! Blackout feature is a must-have
Size: 4-Person Style: Contains Pfas
I've owned a 4P Coleman Sundome tent for many years and have always liked it. When I saw the same tent but with the blackout technology I was intrigued. Bought this primarily for a music festival with multiple days of camping so we could sleep in easier but also took it out a few times just regular camping. I'm not sure if I can go back to a regular tent! I'm not the person who's waking up at 5/6AM even while camping so being able to sleep in until 9-10ish without it getting too bright or hot is really nice. Durability seems good. First time we used it near BLM/National Forest land and a cow trampled all over it. Big boy managed to puncture a hole in the side which we patched and broke one of the rainfly clips so we have to improvise sometimes. Noticed a little bit of water inside the tent during a heavy rain but I think it's because the rainfly wasn't fully secure. All in all pretty happy with this tent and got it on sale for a good price. The blackout technology works pretty well and is nice to have if you like to sleep in. ... show more

  • Easy setup, rainproof
Size: 6-Person Style: Contains Pfas
Okay, we've used this tent a few times now, including during a torrential downpour and some steady rains, and it has performed flawlessly. I even left the window open during the downpour and it stayed dry. The darkening effect is good; in the evening/dawn and nighttime, it's absolutely pitch black, and during the daytime it's about 90% dark. So dark that it makes it difficult to get the inside set up even with the door and the back window open, so my only suggested improvement would be one or two more windows to add more light when needed. I suppose one could hold off on putting up the rain fly until that was done, but I'm not likely to ever remember to do it that way. I'm able to set it up on my own in under 10 minutes - a few poles, a few clips, voila! - and with some finesse get it to fit back into the bag afterward. The 6-person is large enough for my family of four to sleep side-by-side on our average-sized sleeping pads and keep most of our gear at our feet (a large dog would also fit at our feet). ... show more

  • A great summer and early fall tent, dark out feature was nice!
Size: 4-Person Style: Contains Pfas
A great summer camping or festival tent that perfectly accommodates 2 adults w/ a blowup Matress with enough room (~2ft.) to put your stuff inside to keep dry. The rainfly and 2 sides of the tent make it considerably dark as advertised. The other two sides opposite to the entrance are primarily mesh which makes for decent star gazing and air flow but that’s about it. This is a car camping tent and great if there isn’t big temperature changes between day and night. Unlike advertised, as soon as the sun hits the tent it gets warm as any tent especially with fly on, without it I am sure it would be cooler with two mesh sides but then you don’t get the blackout feature or any privacy. I also would suggest setting it up before use and sealing the seams and any place you see any light on fly coming through. I just used it in the first week of June where day time temps were in the mid 70’s and dropped to 40 at night. Glad I brought a 20 degree bag because it was chilly and I run hot but unlike a 3-4 season tent don’t expect it to retain any body heat. It also rained one night with 15 mile an hour wind gusts and it kept dry with the tub bottom which is basically a tarp type of plastic and nylon weave that runs 6” up the sides. Not a bad tent for the price and intended use. ... show more
