  • Stood up to strong storms
Size: 4-Person Style: Contains Pfas
It has been 3 years since I bought this tent. We have camped a few times and never had any trouble with it and have been perfectly happy with it. But, the reality was that it hadn't been put to the test yet. I couldn't give a strong review from only experience under light or moderate conditions. All tents are good when it is relatively dry with little wind, etc. But, now I can verify that this is one tough tent! I don't give out praise lightly. My son and I camped on the shore of a rather large lake in mid-late August, 20-22. The first night about 9:30 the thunder started and the wind picked up. We moved our game and food into the tent. I knew strong thunderstorms were expected in the area. I was hoping they would glance or miss us as summer storms sometimes do. Nope. The whole time we were lying on our sleeping bags playing Yahtzee, the storm's intensity grew quickly. We kept looking at each other as crashes of lightning hit close and the wind was straining the tent around us. The whole time as the father I was working out the best contingency plans if the worst happened. I was sure it would. Mind you, we were on the east end of the lake. Our weather comes from the west. This lake is tucked between some pretty tall hills. So the wind is funneled. Sideways rain was driven by constant winds between 20-30 mph and gusts to about 35-45 mph. This lasted about 1/2 hour-hour. What's more our door, which doesn't have the direct rain fly cover, was facing the lake (for the view). When the storm ( that wasn't the end of the harsh weather, just the wind) passed, there was a slight seepage on the windward facing door wall to be dabbed up with a towel. The tent was entirely intact. To add, somewhere about 3 AM there was a torrential downpour that lasted at least a half hour, up to 1 1/2 hour. Not a drop inside. Folks, this was the kind of storm that all the locals were talking about and asking each other how much property damage they had incurred, when we went into town to have breakfast because the fire pit and all the wood was drenched. Now, I can honestly write a good review. The darkening features; compactness to small size when packed and ease of set up are great. But that tent will hold up in very tough storm conditions. You can hike out with confidence when you don't have a retreat option readily available. (I wilderness hike too) ... show more

  • Quality, price
Size: 4-Person Style: Pfas-free
It was very easy to set up-I did it with my husband in 2 minutes! We liked the quality, the spacious room inside, and the zippers that really work. Inside the tent, we have 2 big pockets and a hook for the light. Coverage from sunlight works nicely, and it wasn’t hot inside.

  • Very cool looking!
Size: 4-Person Style: Contains Pfas
This is the 4-person dark room version. It is very cool looking and can be set up/taken down by one person relatively easily. It really does fit back into its bag (with a little squishing effort), along with all the parts. The materials are typical quality for a tent at this price point. Expect to seal the seams if you use in wet environment. The corner zippered opening for a power cord was one of the selling features for me, but if nothing else gets seam-sealed, THIS spot should. Everyone who has mentioned this feature has said it leaks in the rain. Caveat emptor. Also, the vent pictured on the bottom rear for some versions is not present in the dark room version. Some have complained about that vent being a source for water getting into tent; others like the air it provides. YMMV. But if you like it really dark when you sleep, this is the tent for you. The walls and underside of the rainfly are very opaque, and the rainfly extends a tad lower on this model than the other ones--another selling point for me. Should you sleep with the rainfly off, it's very open and airy, but when buttoned up, it's extremely dark. I should mention that below where the tent wall and the bathtub-type floor meet, the flooring material that curves up is not as light occluding as the other material. So, in the day time, there's a band of light around the bottom (see picture). Could be a potential future modification with duct tape, but air mattress(es) would likely cover most of that. However, that raises another issue. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is NOT a tent for 4 people. Only 2 adults max, and they would have to be pretty friendly. In the picture of the inside, there's a 3X6 foot pad on the floor that takes up a bit less than half the 9X7 foot floor space. Another pad/air mattress will fit with a bit of room in between them, but whoever is sleeping on the right side will be partially blocking the zipper for the D-door. So, you cannot fit 2 high air mattresses or cot beds and still have access to the door. You'll also be touching the tent walls while lying down this way on any pad or mattress higher than about 4-6 inches. A solo camper or a couple could put their *one* larger bed sideways and still fit in the tent, but for a couple, the person sleeping on the back side will likely disturb their partner to get out of tent. For these reasons, for 2 adults the 6-person or larger tent is probably a better option. This handy 106" X 83" footprint tarp is the best fit for a ground cloth for the 4-person tent (which should not extend beyond the edges of your tent--a common camper mistake): https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JGC66XL/ref=asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It even comes in its own stuff sack, which you can stuff into the tent bag. UPDATE: Have now camped out in this tent, and the very first night it rained off and on all night. Not a drop in the tent, though, even with a power cord coming through the zippered access point for it (albeit, with it zipped snugly against the cord, not left wide open). The tent fabric is also so dark that you can hardly see a lamp on inside the tent from outside. The privacy that affords is appreciated. Update #2 (7/2019): Have camped out in this tent several times now and it continues to perform well. It does flex a lot under windy conditions, but it held up fine. Make sure you properly stake out ALL the guy lines. One odd thing we noticed was that the lime-green rainfly seemed to attract a lot of small flying bugs! They just hung out on it, but did not get into tent, so no big deal. ... show more

  • Simple and dry!
Size: 6-Person Style: Contains Pfas
Set this up with my wife in about 10 minutes. Very simple and spacious. Love that the poles are a bit thicker than some of our other tents - seem sturdy and well constructed. I don’t anticipate them bending anytime soon with proper usage. Did a rain test by letting our sprinklers pelt the tent - water was mostly coming in horizontally which wouldn’t happen normally unless in extreme conditions. After 10 minutes went inside and everything was bone dry — only area where there was very miniscule dampness was t the front door — one sprinkler was pelting the zipper of the opening which is protected by a flap but not much help with horizontal water. Inside it’s dark! Which will be great for us wanting to sleep in on our adventures and also for our dog who is deaf and can get spooked by shadows and lights at night. Very spacious. We were able to put in 9 puzzle cubes on the floor with ample space around. Our two bags and inflatable mats as well as our two dog beads and gear will fit easily. Imagine would be Comfortable for 3 large adults with single cots and gear. Take done took me 12 minutes by myself and it all fit right back into the bag. I may get more stakes as the stakes it comes with are basic and not that useful in different terrain / sand/rocks etc. Excited to take this on our next trip in November to see how it holds up to autumn coastal weather! ... show more
