  • Camping with Coleman
Style: 8-person
The Coleman 8 man sky dome tent can fit two queen size air mattresses inside and still have plenty of room. Large door makes bringing camping gear in and out easy and the center height of the tent is 6' 2" which is a plus. Great tent for the price!

  • Great tent!
Style: 8-person
Great tent, easy to assemble, 10-15 minutes on my own, less than 10 with some help. Very spacious, comfortably held a quin-size and a full-size inflated mattresses and a big dog along with some big bags.

  • Very spacious, durable materials, relatively easy setup
Style: 8-person
I really like how roomy the interior of this tent is; there's plenty of space for several sleeping pads or air mattresses although we use it as a 2 person tent and set up a little sitting area on the opposite side. It'd work quite well for a family of 5 though and there'd still be enough room for everyone's packs and gear. Setup.. takes quite a bit longer than the 5 minutes that are advertised, especially the first time setting it up, but it is pretty straightforward and the poles are easy to work with. The included rainfly is also pretty easy to attach, but that alone took me close to 8 minutes so I have no idea where they're getting the 5 minute setup time from. Everything needed is included though and stows away in a fairly basic but nonetheless nice carrying bag. The tent has good ventilation which is adjustable but there is no interior divider. The zippers all work well and don't snag on anything and overall, the materials strike me as durable and I expect the tent to last several seasons of use if taken care of. I like the shape of the tent, being more rectangular than square and think it's a pretty nice looking tent and well designed in general. It didn't rain so I wasn't able to test the water resistance, but if it's anything like my other Coleman tents I doubt I'll have any issues and I'll probably spray it with a PU coating anyways, so I'm not particularly worried about it. Aside from the size, it's a pretty basic tent and doesn't have any headlining features but I do like it quite a bit and think it'll be a reliable option going forward for us when something larger than a 2 person is needed. ... show more

  • Holds up to wind gusts better than most
Style: 8-person
We’ve used the Coleman Skydome XL tent on several camping trips at Padre Island National Seashore (PINS), where wind gusts can be a real challenge. I have to say, this tent holds up better than many other large tents we’ve tried over the years. The low-profile dome shape and sturdy poles do an excellent job of standing up to strong winds. At PINS, where 20-30 mph gusts are common, the Skydome stayed stable and secure, unlike taller cabin-style tents that often feel like they’re about to take flight. It’s clear the design prioritizes stability, which is a huge plus for coastal camping. Setup was straightforward, and the claim that it "sets up in 5 minutes" is pretty accurate. My wife and I got it up quickly without any trouble, which isn’t always the case when we’re tackling tents together. The pre-attached poles and intuitive layout make it simple to assemble. Once pitched, the tent felt spacious and comfortable. At 6’6”, I appreciated the extra headroom. While the tent is advertised to fit 8-12 people, I think it’s best suited for 6-8 adults if you want some elbow room or plan to store gear inside. Trying to squeeze in 12 people would only work if you’re okay being packed in like sardines. The weatherproofing is solid. The rainfly and taped seams kept us completely dry during a light overnight drizzle. The materials feel durable but aren’t excessively heavy, which is a nice balance. I also like that the tent is made with PFAS-free materials—it’s good to know they’ve avoided unnecessary chemicals. Ventilation is decent, with plenty of windows and vents to keep air moving. However, if you’re camping in hot weather, it can feel a bit stuffy with everything zipped up tight. The tent comes with a carry bag that’s functional but slightly snug. Getting everything packed away neatly takes a bit of patience. It’s not the lightest tent to haul around, but given its size and sturdiness, I didn’t expect it to be. Overall, the Coleman Skydome XL has been a reliable choice for our beach camping trips. It handles wind exceptionally well, sets up easily, and provides plenty of space for a family or small group. While the ventilation could be improved for hotter climates and the carry bag could use more room, these are minor drawbacks for a tent that performs so well in challenging conditions. If you’re planning a camping trip in a windy area like PINS, this tent is definitely worth considering. ... show more

  • Great large tent for our small family!!
Style: 8-person
Our old tent collapsed at the slightest sign of wind, which caused huge issues last time we tried to go camping. I liked the wind raiding listed on this one and hands known the brand to be reliable, so we decided to make the switch. Setup is about equal with our old tent. I can do it myself but it's a huge pain. It's much easier when my husband and I work together on it (as long as we can keep the kids occupied and in sight long enough). Once set up, I noticed right away that it feels much sturdier than our old tent. It's very roomy for a family of 4 (two adults and two kids under 7 yrs old). It fits or written sized air mattress, and their twin and toddler sized mattresses with enough room left for or hear. During the day we stack their mattresses on ours to make for extra room. I have an inflatable couch that I set up during the day as a cozy place for the kids to chill out while we make food. The tent is tall enough for my 6' tall husband to not feel cramped. Best if all, it can handle more wind than our previous one and stay standing. We haven't used it in 35 mph wind yet, but I'm fairly confident that it could, indeed handle that with some better spikes. ... show more
