I bought this tent and went camping in the upper peninsula of Michigan, it rained an inch in about 4 hours overnight. it was the hardest rain I have ever camped in, roads we partially covered in gravel from so much rain washing out the ground. there was a little water in 2 of the corners of the tent I think because I forgot to snap the fabric clips on the 2 poles. I can't believe we stayed dry! it's probably the darkest tent I have owned also the blackout material feels rather cheap; there were a few pin holes in it where light peaked through. about 10 minute setup time. inside is normal space. the screened in porch was great to use as a bug shield, don't expect it to stay dry in there though. I thought it was a great addition to the tent tbh. I 1000% recommend this tent! ... show more

This is for the 8-person Carlsbad. Excellent quality, high ceiling, wind resistant. Kept the rain out. Loved the screen room where we kicked off shoes and stored gear. Helped keep sleeping area sand and dirt free. Easily fit two high loft queen air mattresses and could have fit a twin as well. It definitely blocks the sun! We slept later because the sun didn’t wake us up. It’s well insulted but can unzip size windows and entry door flap to get screen windows for air flow. The screen room poles broke on me during the first use (the elastic line that connects the links snapped and it’s now useless). I also noticed a tear in the tent after first time out. This tent is a really nice size for 2 people camping, with plenty of room left over for backpacks and other gear. It could fit 4 like the specs say, but it would be sort of cramped in my opinion. In any case, the took me about 45 minutes or so to set up the first time, mostly due to having to get familiar with all of the pieces and parts. It was a pretty standard set up though, nothing out of the ordinary. The tent materials feels durable and is fairly thick compared to my much cheaper tent; I feel like it'll definitely last a few seasons. Ventilation is acceptable in the main cabin, but perhaps not as good as it could be due to all of the light blocking materials, but after having slept in it, it's definitely a worthwhile tradeoff. It gets very dark inside when it's all buttoned up, even under full sunlight, it's pretty cool and a little jarring at first. The screened-in porch area is also awesome, it's one of my favorite things about the tent and there's enough room for a person to comfortably lounge there behind the screen. All of the zippers work well and didn't give me any issues. I only spent one night in the tent, but we really liked it and as mentioned before, it's just about the perfect size for 2 adults to comfortably live out of when camping. ... show more

I got this Coleman Carlsbad Dark Room Tent with Screened Porch for me and my sons to go camping with during the year. We have another tent so I figured the boys could share this one between the three of them since it is a rated for 4 people. It worked pretty well for a trip last weekend to a local park and 3 people seemed like a good number for them. I usually ere on the side of caution when it comes to tent sizes. It is nice to have extra room for things and space between everyone. They used a queen size inflatable air mattress for the night. The construction seems well made and should last awhile if taken care of. Pitching the tent was really easy and it took my sons barely anytime to have it ready. Also, this is our first time with an extra dark style tent and they said it helped them sleep in a bit longer than other tents. During the summer the heat might wake them before the sun's brightness but for fall and winter the extra darkness is great. It also helped since the area we were in had some lights in a distance that probably would have lit up our old tent more. The little 'porch' area is kind of cool too and will probably work out great during the summer when there are mosquitos. As for rain, we haven't had any lately so I instead tested with some hose water in our backyard. There were no leaks which is good and again the 'porch' area looks like it be great place to leave your muddy shoes so you don't bring in dirt etc into the sleeping area. However, it does get some water inside the 'porch' area so you'd probably want a bin or something to put the shoes in to keep them from getting wet.
