Description

The best of the world's sword fighters have known a simple truth for ages.. if you want to become a reasonably good sword fighter you should endeavor to learn sword fighting techniques, footwork and the basic stances. However, if you want to be a master at sword fighting you have to eventually start fighting with a "live blade." If your ultimate goal is to wield a razor sharp sword safely and effectively, you need to train with a sword that approximates the size, feel and heft of a live blade, yet minimizes the possibility of causing grievous, permanent, or life-threatening injury to yourself or your training partner. This concept was implemented by the ancient Romans, who used dull wooden swords to train their Gladiators and soldiers. And Japanese Samurai used a wooden training sword that was called a Bokken. It's an elegant solution to a vexing problem and effective enough to still be used today. The only problem is that a wooden sword can rot, crack, chip or splinter and eventually become useless. Cold Steel's solution to these dilemmas was to design a synthetic substitute, low in price and impervious to the elements. The Cold Steel line of Training Swords are made of heaviest grade polypropylene available and closely duplicate a real sword in length, size, weight and feel. I don't see how people can be so confused. The description is very clear that this is a plastic training axe, not a real one. It a an excellent training tool for those into reenactments, etc. It looks real, and has somewhat of a heft to it, so it is useful for drills and light sparring. Like everything I have bought from Cold Steel, it's high quality and designed for the job. If you have issues distinguishing between a training axe and the real thing, I really don't think training with a fighting axe is a healthy pursuit. Reading these reviews it would lead me to believe there are 2 different Items being sold under this listing? Some people are talking about it being sharp or having great chopping power and others saying it is a prop axe. a very high quality trainer come from cold steel, i have some of their rubber trainer tools and they are all very good feel, no flimsy or cheap rubber. This is from the movie Kungfu Hustle, a great prop and trainer to use. For people who angry this is not real axe, you need to read more carefully what this is, they do have real axe version with higher price point. still very good imo. ... show more

In agreement with another that madebthis comment. "This is nothing but a toy the entire ax is plastic including the head I don't understand some of the reviews how people say how sharp it is, and its the best axe they've ever had. the edge has a round over probably 3/8 of an inch in diameter."     • Not using it for what it's intended but.....
Currently I love it. This item is intended to be used for a local haunted house. It seems very sturdy and should hold up pretty well. I will need to make a few modifications to make it look like it belongs in a horror scene but, that's half the fun. It is much cheaper and better made than most prop weapons I have come across. I will try to remember to update when I know the durability of the item. ... show more
