Description

For over 50 years of excellence in the CB category, the 29 LTD Classic continues to be the radio standard of the current and future Professional Driver. The 29 LTD is continued to be manufactured based on the original design which has been known for performance and durability. Professional driver-requested improvements have been made throughout the years to continue to enhance performance and durability continuing the un-matched Cobra tradition. The CB radio has been around since the 1930s. To see that the Citizens Band is still being produced and sold is testament to its reliability and usefulness. Cobra has brought back their version of the CB with this 29-LTD. They've made some nice improvements to the CB you might have used a decade or two ago. Key improvements to this radio include a front panel microphone connector which makes in-dash installation a cinch. Cobra has also provided a nine foot microphone cord so that you keep in touch from a good distance, whether you're located in a truck cab or dispatch office. The final noteworthy improvement are tactile controls for safer, and more accurate, functionality. Other features include: antenna warning indicator, SWR calibration, instant Channel 9, PA capability, dimmer control, switchable noise blanker and RF gain. In a time of seemingly un-ending technological advances, it's nice to see something we created back in the late 1930s is still alive and kicking.

  • Great radio with great sound.
Style: 29 LX with AM Pattern: CB Radio
I've had this radio for almost 2 months now and finally decided to write a review. Let me start out by saying that my knowledge of CB's is extremely limited and Everything I've learned, is from reading as much as I can in these last 3 months. I went with the Cobra 29 LX because I liked the newer modern faceplate and the 29 seems to be a popular choice. Along with the radio, I purchased a Wilson T2000 Antenna which is 4.5ft tall. I also bought a Astatic 636L mic to replace the factory one with. I made a custom bracket out of some scrap iron and mounted it on the rear of my F250 inside the bed, and for the radio, I made a custom mount by bending some metal into L-brackets and mounting them under the center console (see pictures to see what I mean. Lastly, I mounted an external speaker above my head and ran a long 3.5mm audio cable through the head liner, down the A-pillar and under the carpet to the radio Before I even ran all the power wires for the radio. Before I ran all the power and ground wires for the radio, I had a CB shop peak and tune the radio. After it was all said and done, the radio dead keyed right under 6 watts of power and peaked right under 30 watts. From what I've read this seems to be the average for a basic peak and tune. I got the SWR nice and low 1.1-1.2 across all channels. So how does it perform? It performs amazing I think. So far everyone has told me how loud and clear it sounds to them. I usually talk on Ch 19 but as you know, Ch19 seems to be really dead these days where hours would go by without hearing a word. Tonight, While I was fueling up my truck, I talked with a guy who was a local and told me that him and a lot of other locals guys talk on Ch 28 and ch36 every night. He came in loud and clear and said that I was also coming in loud as if I was just a few miles away from him and asked me my location. When I gave it to him he couldnt believe I was able to hit him back so clearly because we were about about 20 miles apart (straight shot, not driving distance) I ended up talking with him and a few other guys who were all in the 15-20 mile range all running home base stations with towers and big power and they all complemented how well I sounded. I don't know much about CB's but I'm told that the Antenna is a big part of the performance you get. Either way, I'm very happy with this radio. At some point I'll likely add a linear amp to it but for now it works great and talks far. I do have one complaint wit the radio. Every time I set the clock and turn it on to show up, the next time I turn the truck back on after it's been turned off, the clock go away and resets its self. It's as if it isn't saving it in the memory. I remembers what my last channel I was on and every other feature that I've custom set...Everythin BUT the clock. It's not a huge deal to me since I have a clock about 1 foot above the radio anyway but just thought it was worth noting. ... show more

  • vety good product- shipped early
Style: 29 LTD Classic Pattern: CB Radio
This CB is outstanding. It may be a tad pricy but with a cheaper CB its hard to understand people. First off I ordered this CB on a Saturday. The estimated shipping date was next Friday to Tuesday. This was a problem as I really wanted the cab by Thursday so I could mount it and have it for a road trip I was about to take. The package came in a day early. This shipped from California and I live on the east coast of Maryland. I used standard 3-5 day shipping. Very pleased. Next the box has minimal damage. And by minimal I mean the corners were messed up but that was expected with a coast to coast shipment. However when I opened the box the radio was covered in bubble wrap and looked factory fresh very pleased with that. Now the actual radio is nice its easy to calibrate the directions are in AMERICAN English only and are short and simple to read. Next the install. I took off my radio cover. And ran my antenna wire through my dampners in my pickup. The Antenna is roof mounted and I ran my radio cord through my radio etc. Next the power cord its a plug for the back of the cab a fuse and the other end is a piece of stripped wire. The whole thing is about 5 food long. If your not experienced with cars or wire splicing I would reccomend getting the cigarette lighter adapter. However if you think you can do it. I just spliced the hot and neutral in with my cigarette lighter and it works fine and my cigarette light will still charge my phone. Lastly you can hardwire to your battery the only reason is because the CB lights up and is easy to tell when its on. Just remember the antenna really determines how far your signal is. I hooked up a small PA system with my CB but beware while this isn't illegal where I live a cop can and will usually give you shit if they hear it. Other than that this is a great looking quality inexpensive ( not cheap inexpensive for the quality) cab. PS when I mounted my radio bracket I used all four self tapping screws on the mount. Your oonly supposed to use two for the radio bracket and the other two are for the mic holder. I didn't know this so I just used two more self tapping screws I had lying around for the mic mount. Hope this helps ... show more
