  • WORTH THE PRICE...PAST DELIVERY ISSUES NOW SEEM RESOLVED
UPDATE 9/11/12: As you read my review below, you will see it broken down into the actual REVIEW OF THE TABLE, and separately, MY DELIVERY EXPERIENCE, which at the time this was originally written was a widespread problem and was very important to the whole purchase experience that I and many others were experiencing as well. As you can see if you read into the comments on this post, other vendors for this table set have begun to crop up, and people have had positive experiences with them. Meanwhile, at least on an initial search, Visiondecor seems to have exited this arena--I couldn't find one listing of this table from them. We must've scared them away! lol When reading the review below, since the original vendor is no longer part of the equation and the delivery problem seems to have resolved, feel free to skip over the delivery experience if you don't find it relevant to you. Since it helped so many people, I'll leave my original review intact for historical reasons, and perhaps to forewarn people of potential pitfalls out there. It's a shame I had to devote such a large section of this review to my delivery experience, however important it might've been. Judging by the responses, it seems to have helped a few people. But in the end, it's all about the table itself...and it is still a pleaser, even nearly 2 years later. ************************************************************************************************************************** MY REVIEW OF THE TABLE: We finally received our table set, and are very pleased with it. My husband says that the assembly was not all that difficult or long, and we had no problems with the lazy susan whatsoever. He suspects they may have corrected any design flaws it may have once had. The dark espresso wood is elegant and the pub seat height is a pleasant change of pace from your run-of-the-mill dining set. We've gotten lots of compliments, and guests who've been by have commented that they very much liked the height and appearance of this set. It lends itself to a more casual, comfortable feel because of the pub height and lazy susan, but the color and design of the entire set are such that it's all still elegant and befitting a formal dinner as well. We typically have this set up with 6 chairs--when the set is empty, it looks much less crowded. The table can fit all 8, and while I wouldn't say that everyone will necessarily bump elbows, it will be a little snug...but no more so than what you might expect at, say, a full table at a restaurant. In planning for family get-togethers, I always give some extra thought to kids in relation to this set--I would guess this is not the best choice for households with little kids, due to the height. I'm not sure, but guessing many high chairs could not be jacked up to this table height, and while the set's chairs themselves should accommodate a booster seat just fine, getting kids up and down from the seats might require parental assistance. At my household, we definitely employ a separate "kiddy table" at Thanksgiving. :) We do not use the glass or wine racks underneath as intended, as I find it inconvenient to reach underneath the table for my wine or glasses. I would imagine this feature is a bonus feature for someone where space is limited, like an apartment, but for me, I use the area for seldom-used dining room storage, such as holiday-themed dining room decorations. MY DELIVERY EXPERIENCE: I have looked for this same table elsewhere on the net, and every search turned up the same vendor, Visiondecor...so I don't think it's available from any other vendor, and as such, I think their delivery and customer service performance are relevant to a proper review on this set. I would've given 5 stars on this review based on the table alone, but because of our delivery experience, I dropped down to 4 stars. In short, they were quite disappointing. Or at least, the delivery company that they use is quite disappointing. The table took a full MONTH to arrive, coming well past its promised delivery date. We tried calling the delivery company, but on the several occasions we tried, we got no answer. (How can you be in the business of scheduling and not have anyone manning your phones during normal business hours???) We came home one day to find a note from their delivery crew stating that they had come by to attempt delivery, and we were not home. Huh?? You want to deliver an order that's so large that it comes on a pallet and requires a crew to move, and you just SHOW UP with it??! Upon finding this attempted delivery note, we called them. We finally got them, along with an attitude that we were interrupting them--they were rude, abrupt, and unpleasant, on top of being incompetent. We learned that they had tried several times in the previous week to schedule delivery, but we supposedly never answered the phone. We found this hard to believe, as my husband was home most of the time, and our calls forward to our cell phones when we're not home...so we were quite sure we'd never gotten any calls. When we verified the number they were calling, we learned that they were calling my mother's home. We've NO clue how they even got my mother's phone number, as we never gave it out--my mom is deaf, and only even has an active phone line for emergency phone calls out. The table was indeed paid for with mom's credit card, as it was a housewarming gift from her, but it was ordered on MY Amazon account, which has her number NOWHERE. Can they get the cardholder's phone number from their credit card company somehow??? In any event, we provided our correct phone number, and were told we would get a phone call following the weekend to re-schedule. We never got a call, and the delivery crew just showed up the following Monday. Apparently, they called again and got no answer (because, as it turns out, they continued to call mom's!! WTH?!!), and so, once again, without any confirmed delivery time, they just SHOWED UP with this giant delivery. It was just fortunate we happened to be home at the time...that's the only reason we have our table now. In short, if you order this table, you should be quite happy with the product, but be prepared for an exasperating delivery experience. UPDATE 1/6/11: We were contacted by Visiondecor regarding our negative review on Amazon, and offered a $125 refund if we would at least remove the negative Seller Feedback we'd given them. We felt this was reasonable, as the delivery was the sole problem to us in this whole purchase, and this refunded most of the delivery costs. I've upgraded them to 5 stars again. They obviously are concerned about customer feedback. The rep from Visiondecor explained that they were experimenting with different delivery companies to see which ones would best serve all their delivery needs. Obviously, the one that delivered to us was a let-down. Hopefully, they never use them again. I see that several other people have had favorable delivery experiences...hopefully Visiondecor can find a delivery company or companies to repeat the good experiences, because everything else about the product and the experience with Visiondecor seems great. ... show more

  • Good Quality, Just not fit for its purpose
*Configuration* If seating 8 people is an important criterion for you, then this table is not going to do it. I was concerned about the size and seating from the pictures before we bought this set, but now its confirmed. There's no place on the square table to accommodate 2 people to each side without elbows knocking and plates, glasses set so close to each other, you could eat off the other's plate. On corner seats, its not possible to sit without one person's knees poking another's thigh. The most you can realistically seat is 6 people if you do 2 chairs on two of the sides and 1 chair each on the remaining two sides. With that configuration, you can move the single chairs to the middle and spread out the 2 chair side a little bit so that elbows and knees are not bumping into each other. But that makes the whole setting looks somehow asymmetric not to mention the single plate in the center is really close to the lazy susan in the center. The center lazy susan is a tempered glass round flush with the surface of the table but positioned on bearings such that it can rotate. Its virtually useless because you cannot set the plate correctly enough so that when it rotates it does not get jammed in the wood circumference (there's a 2 millimeter gap between the wood and glass plate). A slight push and the glass plate closes this gap on one side and cannot rotate. You would have to press hard on the glass to make it rotate and it makes a noise as the plate rubs along the wood. The square shape makes it good to put some food in the middle of the table, but creates unusable space in the corners which is wasted. Using this set with just 4 chairs might be ok, but then why would you spend all this money to leave 4 of the 8 chairs supplied out? *Quality* The quality and finish are very good. I like the deep coffee brown and the smooth and nice finish. The wood is heavy and does not feel cheap. The seat pads could have been better. The table top surface is definitely soft and very susceptible to scratches. *Assembly* The whole set was shipped to me on a wooden shipping pallet, wrapped in plastic wrap and tied down with flat plastic cords. It obviously weighs a ton and the delivery guy unloaded it off the truck and pulled into my garage using a pallet dolly. If you live in an apartment or don't have a first floor garage - good luck! I separated all the items and carried boxes inside individually. (There's 2 chairs to a box - so 4 boxes and 1 big box for the center table). The center table cannot be lifted by one person. Setup for the main table wasn't too bad on the whole but the diagrams could have been better. There was no labeling on the pieces so you could fix things together but oriented incorrectly for the next step. I would do 2 pieces and then when time came to join intermediate pieces, I would realize they would not fit together they way I had set them up. The center table is assembled upside down and again you'll need two people to flip it back up after assembly is done. Fixing the chairs was not hard but laborious. I did not do all of them in a single sitting. Wish fixing the seat pads was easier. There are no grooves in the pad. You just have to hold them down and screw into the soft wood in the bottom. *Overall Value* Bought them here on Amazon through mo-sh-ya and it was six hunderd ninety nine. They dropped the price to six hundred twenty within 2 weeks of my purchase. No response on a refund for the difference. Having bought it, we are using the table in the 6 chair configuration. Its not too bad for the price and given how hard it has been to find something contemporary in this price range. If I could go back in time, I would definitely pay a little bit more and get something else. ... show more

  • It works...
If I could, I would rate this set with 3.5 stars. Note: I did rate the seller separately, but my review here will include comments on the table and chairs AND on the delivery, because I think it's all relevant to the overall experience. THE DELIVERY My table and chairs arrived on the last day of the expected shipping frame. I received a phone call on Friday, May 4th by a representative of the shipping company (RoadRunner Transportation Services) who said she was calling to schedule delivery. She asked me if Tuesday (May 8th) at 9:30 a.m. was okay, and I said yes. Then, on Monday, May 7th, I received another call from a different representative who said that the woman who called me on Friday was "new and really doesn't understand the procedures and policies, but we don't make appointments for delivery. Friday was her first day here so she really didn't know what she was doing." She changed the appointment to a window between 10a and 12 noon and said that the driver would call an hour before arrival. That worked for me. At 12:12, I had not received any phone call, so I called RoadRunner. To make a long story short, my furniture arrived at 3:00 p.m. which means I missed an entire day of work. To make matters worse, it was pouring rain and the driver left everything outside. I really wish I knew that the delivery company wouldn't actually bring the 6 heavy boxes inside and that I would have to pay movers to bring it inside. THE ASSEMBLY The assembly took a total of about 5 hours altogether, and quite a bit of elbow grease. All the parts and hardware were there and packaged properly. If you're a small woman (as I am) you will probably need help with the table, but you can do the chairs by yourself in about 2-3 hours. The chairs are easy, but tedious. I suggest putting the frame together before tightening the screws. The lower bars don't always fit perfectly and it's a lot easier to adjust if the rest of the chair frame isn't already tightly screwed. I do wish the seat had better construction because although it seems sturdy, I'm not very confident that it will hold up under any of my friends or family who are a little bigger than I. Also, it would've been nice to have marks or starter holes for aligning the seat properly. It's too easy to mess that up since there are no pre-drilled holes. The instructions for the table were horrible. They were very difficult to understand (unlike the instructions for the chairs). The pictures were unclear. I'm shocked that I didn't screw the table up. THE FINAL PRODUCT THE TABLE is absolutely beautiful. I love the color, love the finish, love the design. It's a very heavy piece and quite sturdy. It's a much larger table than I initially thought, comfortably sitting 6 people with plenty of elbow room. I know a lot of reviewers were unhappy with trying to accommodate 8 people, but I think 8 can fit, it just won't be as roomy. The LAZY SUSAN is quite lazy. LOL. It doesn't rotate nicely at all. You have to force it, and even then, it's awkward and clumsy and it rubs against the frame making lots of noise. I doubt I'll be able to use it. I haven't put any wine glasses in THE CABINET yet because I haven't figured out how to stop them from falling off the other side. There are no stops on either side, so glasses can fall off and break. I think I'm going to try putting some putty or something in the frame on one side so they won't fall off. THE CHAIRS are okay. Nothing to write home about. I will probably replace them with something a little more contemporary, and maybe a splash of color. THE FINISH seems a little delicate. I'm a single woman and I don't do a lot of entertaining, so I doubt I'll use the table more than once a week or so. If you have a family, you may want to get something less likely to scratch. THE FINAL VERDICT I haven't eaten at the table yet, but it looks good in my apartment. It's a great visual piece, especially once I swap out the chairs. I would recommend the table but only if you can find it with a buyer that does not use RoadRunner for shipping. Horrible company. There's just something insulting about paying money to have 200 lbs of freight left outside your house (in the rain). That's not very consumer oriented. ... show more

  • Dining Table
Easy to assemble but it is time consuming.
Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2023 by Prahlad LLC.

  • problems from the start
I ordered this table and 8 chair set on 8.19.2013. It finally arrived 9/3. That Friday, 9/6, I go to put it together. After everything is up, except the table, we find that there isn't a table base, just table top with lazy susan. I email Amazon, and the seller, and it takes weeks before I receive a response that I will be getting the base, that it has been shipped. Of course, a week after ordering it, we removed our older table (built in Yugoslavia, solid oak, 1990, lasted 23 years, and was snapped up within 30 minutes when we put a "free" sign on it out at the curb). So a month after ordering this table, we are sitting around without a table, all 6 of us living here. Then the base arrives. I start putting it together and after getting it almost done, low and behold, one of the table legs is not manufactured for this particular table base, but for a different table base the manufacturer makes. Well, the instructions specifically say to not modify anything if you have received the wrong part, but to contact them and await the replacement. Yah, right (dripping with sarcasm here). I have my daughters 21st birthday party coming up a few days away from when the table base arrived, and to have no table, still, to eat at for the occasion? Wrong! Since the leg is shaped correctly and the right color, but the pre-drilled holes for receiving the adjoining pieces, and the pre/fabricated hardware in the leg are completely off in alignment, I modified the one offensive leg, with the help of my husband who is an electrician. What kept me going with all this, probably even voiding the warranty on this? A.I needed a table, and B.it really is a beautiful table. So we modify the leg to fit better than the 3 correctly prefab legs, then we put on the table top, and pull out the glass lazy susan top (which, by the way is NOT frosted glass, but a clear piece of glass covered on the underside with an off white paint). We delicately put it in place with the supplied rubber stoppers, and again! Low and Behold! There are worn away scratches in the off white paint that later I couldn't match in texture or color. I decided to tackle that another day because it is 11:00 p.m. and my husband has quit on me and gone to bed after 4 hours of our hard engineering efforts. So I move the position of the table a few inches to align it better under our dining light. POP! The table top, comes off the base in one corner. Getting under the table, I see the prefab inserted metal receiver has completely come out of the wood, leaving it stripped and useless. Again, ignoring the "Do not modify" instructions which only lend to a complete disaster of a table, at 11:00 p.m. at night I am mixing an epoxy glue, putting it into the area of the prefab stripped piece, and surrounding wood, reattaching the table top to the base. I am also predrilling 16 holes around the base/table adjoining area, specifically concentrating on the four corners, so I can place wood screws into these 16 places to prevent any more disasters! It definitely seems secure now. Now my story will finish with the lazy susan issues. Realizing matching color and texture to be a time consuming effort, with a not so attractive off white paint, I end up scraping the white stuff off the bottom, and obtaining a bronzish metallic spray paint to coat the underside. After a few tries, and subsequent scraping off the paint again (first two times, I coated it to thoroughly and found that this particular metalic paint had solid brown patches that bled through the spray paint when pressed against the rubber stoppers), I ended up lightly sanding the surfaces on both sides, very lightly spray painting the glass on the underside, and found an acceptable result. I wouldn't recommend this table to anyone, although I have a gorgeous table that receives compliments from others. When taken into consideration the the hours I put in it, taking away from my children and considering that I am a paid professional in my "real" job, just to make it function as a table, it is just a ridiculous waste of my time. ... show more

  • Better than expected...
After shopping at several brick and mortar stores, and trying to find just the right size, style, and price for what we needed (space for at least 6 people), we decided to come back and purchase this from old-faithful, Amazon. What a great decision we made! It's simply beautiful. The picture almost doesn't give it justice. It's darker than what's shown (to me that's a good thing). EVERY corner and edge is rounded and smoothed, so there will be no accidental scratches on little bodies posting up for dinner. The wine/wine glass holder inside the pedestal work great, although they don't accommodate very large glasses. Certainly not a real point of contention for me... The pedestal has doors on either end, so you can see right through the thing, and access items contained within from anywhere. The chairs are far more comfortable than we'd expected as well. They're very solid, don't wobble, and have perfect height foot rests for all sizes. The lazy-susan in the middle is absolutely fantastic! It has very little space between the glass and the table, making it almost a seamless transition all the way across the table from one end to the other. It feels so deeply integrated you don't even notice it's not just an accent! It flows smoothly, and with a nice easy flip, it spins at least 90deg, no dragging. Construction was VERY easy. Everything lined up perfectly, and with the simple aid of an electric screwdriver, we had this entire set assembled in a couple of hours. It took me about 10min per chair, especially after getting my 'system' figured out. The pedestal took me all of 20min, with a little bit of maneuvering to get to the 'harder to reach' bolts. Easily a one-man job to assemble this entire set. Add in a 2nd person and it cut the time in half! About the seller... There was a bit of a quality control issue at the warehouse, and delivery was late. They never contacted us to let us know of the problem, so initially we assumed they were not going to deliver on time. After a couple of emails, they set up a rush delivery to the house, and even refunded a few bucks! The delivery guy was great, and helpful with a few construction tips. We couldn't be happier with this table, and look forward to using it for years to come! ... show more

  • Good Luck
First I want to say that the table is beautiful, good quality and price. However, this seller is TERRIBLE. The rating of 3 is ONLY because the table is so nice. If you order an item and receive it undamaged, you won't have any problems. However, if you do receive damaged pieces, get ready for a major headache. I refused shipment of one piece and later discovered another was broken inside the box. Called the seller and was told a replacement item would be shipped and delivered in 4 days. The next week there was a hurricane in our area, so I was not concerned when the item did not arrive as promised. Then the headache began. I had to call multiple times daily for about a week, most of the time no one answered the phone, and the voicemail was full so I could not leave a message. When someone did answer the phone, I was told the person I needed to speak to was in a meeting or otherwise busy and would call me back. NEVER got a call back. This continued over a week or so. I would call over and over again and if I called enough I could usually get through at least once, but again the person I needed was busy and of course did not call me back as promised. On the last day I planned to try before filing a claim, I finally reached someone that was willing to help me. Dillon is the only person that spoke to me and tried to help. He assured me that the issue would be resolved, and I received replacement pieces in 2 days. Customers should not have to beg for help with items that they pay for. This seller is ABSURD. I would have to be desperately in love with an item they sell and could only get from this seller and no other seller in the world before I would order anything from them again. I would not have had a problem with a shipping delay if someone would have simply called me back even one time and explained what was going on. ... show more

  • Assembling My Pre-Christmas Project Part 1
I was first overwhelmed by all the boxes that arrived on a crate. Since it was over the Christmas Holidays, my parents were there and my father was a great help to me putting the chairs together. I also purchased two of the matching bar stools which brought my chair count to 10! Once we figured out the first chair we created an assembly line and started knocking them out in about 2 hours time. He did the assembling and I used my drill to screw the cushions and and used the supplied tools to tighten all the latches. I assembled the table myself which was late at night. A little difficult due to the bulkiness and weight but the holes and screws lined up perfectly putting the base on the table top. The only odd part was flipping it back over by myself. The instructions were easy to follow. Since chair cushions have to be screwed to the chair, this prevents easy future removal for cleaning. Plus it has some sort of wooden bottom so you can't throw them in the washer. My wife brought some clear plastic custom looking seat covers from Bed Bath Beyond. They work perfectly and will prevent any stains from getting on the cushions. My only regret was that I should have gotten the next lighter wood color. This is darker than any of the surrounding furniture, the cabinets and the floors. But we needed this set to go in our breakfast area to feed family over the holidays and decided to keep it. I also have one chair that is a little wobbly but that's okay. 1 out of 10 chairs is not bad, especially after having to put all those pieces together. Lastly we stuck pads on the chair legs to prevent them from scrarring the floor. Overall we are pleased with the set. Especially pleased with the prices compared to other sets in the local stores. Buying the additional chairs to match this price would have doubled my cost. ... show more
