    • 4.5mm...Comfortable to use & very smooth...Tapered style
4.5mm hooks are not easy to find. As far as I know, there's only a few purchase options in the USA for this size. The Clover Amour hook lists this as a 4.5mm, size 7 hook. Some companies label the size as a 4.5mm, size G hook. Most companies sell the G hook in the 4mm size. I've used Boye aluminum tapered hooks for years & years & years. I was always happy with them. A few years ago, I tried Susan Bates inline hooks thinking they'd help me correct my tension. Well, they didn't & I went back to the Boye hooks. Recently, I read a lot of positive comments on Tulip hooks & Clover hooks. I almost bought a set up Tulip hooks (inline style)...until I read that there's a bump on them that is uncomfortable. So I thought I'd try a Clover Amour hook (tapered style)...and I was hooked. These are so comfortable & smooth. My Boye hooks are smooth too, but these are actually smoother. For some reason, I've always had to move my wrist and hand twice when I pulled through a hdc...well, with this Clover Amour hook, I can pull through a hdc in one smooth move. I never knew the very slight problem I had with the hdc stitch was created by the hook I was using. I thought I might have problems with the Clover Amour hook because it is shorter than the Boye hooks. Because the comfort grip takes up more room, the shaft is shorter than my Boye hooks too. Well, neither of these issues has caused any problems for me. It didn't take long for me to adapt to the shorter lengths. The Clover Amour hook is 5 5/8" from end to end. The shaft measures about 1 5/8" long. My Boye hooks measure 6" long. I like these so much that I purchased the 10 piece set a few weeks later. I'm considering buying the steel set too, but just might purchase the sizes I use most often separately. I wish I would've discovered these years ago. ... show more

This hook is everything good in this world. I can’t imagine ever using another brand hook again. It is absolutely amazing. I can crochet so much faster, it glides like butter. No disgusting squeaking either

    • Best crochet hook of all crochet hooks
I crochet a LOT! I make gifts, but mostly I make hats for NICU babies, cancer patients and the homeless. I use all kinds of stitches and several yarn weights. Sometimes I can crochet for 2 or 3 hours a day if I'm listening to a really good book. I have tried every hook from the cheapest all metal to the better Boye hooks. I have definite preferences for a good hook, with my "must have" requirements being an ergonomic handle, a smooth hook and shaft and a hook that won't split my yarn, either on the forward or the pull stroke (I thought that only an in-line hook would do, but I was wrong. These are tapered hooks and they work like a dream!) My Boyes were my favorites until I tried my first Clover Armour hook. The difference was obvious IMMEDIATELY! I'm not sure what they do to the hook and shaft (the metal parts) of these ergonomic hooks, but the hook and shaft of the Clover Armours are not as shiny as the Boye or any others and that not-as-shiny metal slides through the yarn so smoothly and easily that the difference was instantly noticeable. Smooth as a babies bottom! The hook doesn't split my yarns (I exclusively use medium, light and sport weights). The hook also doesn't pull the yarn, "pop through" or require yanking. Clover Amour crochet hooks are the best crochet hooks I have found! They are soft and comfortable to hold. The tapered hook end easily and perfectly slides through yarn stitches. The straight hook section makes for easy and consistent stitch formation. I prefer the metal hook ends on the smaller sizes, but the ABS resin in the larger sizes does keep them very lightweight.
