I purchased this lens as my original lens ordered with my fiber laser was a focal length 210mm 150x150mm workspace, which is great for larger , less detailed work, but not so great for deeper engraving or ultra fine detail. I use Lightburn for Mac, which is, in my opinion, the best engraving software. There are plenty of tutorials on Lightburn’s YouTube channel detailing calibrating each lens. It should be noted every time you get a new lens you will have to calibrate, but it’s relatively straight forward. Once this new lens was calibrated and I ran a couple test engravings on both aluminum and steel, i was very impressed with the results. I look forward to doing some firearm engraving soon and will add pics once done. ... show more

    • BIG engraving area.
If you want to engrave large area this will do it. You will need a really tall column on the fiber laser to get the full depth of field. With this lens my OMTech 100 watt MOPA could access the full 12 x 12 in bed. The lens is capable of more if you have the height. Keep in mind, the power will be reduced due to the long depth of field but if that’s okay this is what you need. ... show more

    • Watch how your tighten it

The good: Love the lens. I originally had an f290 for big projects but when I need the power density for deep etching or etching copper PCB, this 100mm fits the bill. Perfect fit on my JPT. The bad: I must have tightened it a little too tight although, I don't believe so. This lens gauled. When I went to switch back to my F290, this lens would not unscrew. I tried almost everything to loosen this thing up. This seems to be unique to Cloudray F-theta lenses as I have seen other user having this trouble. Not sure if it's the anodize dye they use or what. I finally unscrewed the entire lens receiver from the galvo head and used a syringe type oil applicator and dripped oil on the inside taper of the lens to let it soak into the threads and also so I could keep oil away from the optics. Trust me, this was a last resort. After soaking for about an hour, the lens loosened up and I had a time trying to clean up the oil while trying to keep the optics spotless. After another hour, 20 or so paper towels, and a half a bottle of 99% IPA, the oil was cleaned off lens assembly and the lens receiver. Either use an anti-seize thread treatment or tighten these lenses feather tight. Mine gauled like you wouldn't believe. That's the only reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5. ... show more
