I wasn't sure if it would be 4.5 inches think by reading some reviews. It is, but you do need to wait about 2 days for it to expand completely. I had read some where that it could take up to 3 days to expand completely. It also seems like not too many manufactures make sofa bed mattresses so don't waste your time looking, I found 3. The issue I did have with with the mattress was the zipper was broke, not sure if I will return it or not.

bought to replaace a - i don't know how old- sofa mattress. the couch this went in is probably from the 70's. found the couch in a thrift store - the couch is in great shape. the mattress was sad - so sad. i really wanted an innerspring mattress. but could not find one with good reviews. so went with this one. mattress arrived well packaged and in a timely fashion. the price is fair enough. it did take longer than i expected to fully fluff up.it was 10-14 days before it was fully fluffed. the corners did not fluff up completely. i mean they are like 90% there just not as thick as the rest of the mattress. but i can live with that. we only use the sofa bed to actually sleep on here and there. maybe once or twice a month we pull it out to snuggle and have a movie night. and it is wayyyyyyyyyyy better than the mattress it replaced. it is maybe an inch or less shorter than the old mattress. width wise it fits perfectly. the main reason i wanted to put in a new mattress was for the sitting. with the old mattress sitting on the sofa was quite saggy. now - it is wonderful. the difference is like night and day. there are not a whole lot of options out there for sofa bed mattress. now a days they just want ya to toss the furniture and get a new one. but i do not like that mind set. i say repair and patch until ya can not repair or patch no more. take good care of what you have. yes i pd more for this mattress than i did for the sofa. but with good care this sofa and the mattress will last me many many yrs. and overall i pd less for this sofa and mattress than i would a new sofa with bed. overall i am quite happy with this purchase.

I got this mattress to replace the original serta inner spring mattress that came with my sleeper sofa bed. I originally looked for another inner spring mattress but the only one I found had reviewers complaining that you could feel the springs, the same problem I had with my old mattress. To be honest, my only real complaint with the mattress is that it is a little too soft. It is advertised as a plush so I am not totally surprised. That said, I am satisfied with this mattress and it is a big improvement over the original. So while a little bit of firmness would be nice, I never even considered returning it, and would order again. Reference to smell. There was some smell when I opened it. After 24 hours I have only ad te smell when I first lay down at night and not through the rest of the night.

I struggle because I live in a studio apt in NYC and have slept on my pull out sofa bed for the last 12 years. Going through different options for comfort, I find that 2 of these kind of mattresses on top of each other make it feel like a bed for me. I need to be able to have one fold up inside the sofa when I have company over (which this size does fold comfortably) and the 2nd I have to roll up and secure with a bungee cord to put in the hall out of the way (and this does more easily than a thicker mattress). Anyway, these are very comfortable. The only thing to be mindful of is that memory foam does depress where the weight of your body is (middle of your body around your spine), so you have to shift periodically to get out of that depressed area in order not to have your spine feel slightly out of alignment when you get up. Overall, a nice mattress.
