  • One of the best duets I have ever read
Format: Kindle
Wow wow wow! I have looked daily since I read the first book for the second book in this duet to come out. Honestly words are hard to come by. I loved this book as much as the first. Seeing Vee get built back up eased the ache I felt reading the first book. I thought the journey to and conclusion of the story were spot on. I do have some take aways— -Seeing Vee strong, asking the hard questions, stating her truth-man. Man oh man. What a beautiful transformation. -I need more Chance, Arden and Jasper (didn’t really care for Jasper till this book) -What was Marie’s true purpose in the house? What was she hoping to accomplish? I really sensed some nefarious intentions. -Eli didn’t surprise me. Drake tore me up. I hope the best for them which is surprising to say. ... show more

  • Amazing second book!
Format: Kindle
I'm pretty sure I'll need therapy after reading both books but they were amazing. I'm pretty sure it was unhealthy to cry the amount I did. Watching Vee get torn down piece by piece. Then watching the other pack help her pick up all the pieces and help her was truly amazing.

  • Sad rather than angst-filled, but with a satisfying ending
Format: Kindle
I was sort of expecting more heavy angst and a lot more complication from the end of the first book/beginning of the second book. Neither of those happened. There was a decided lack of drama over that part, which was rather disappointing, I'll admit. There were no big blow-outs between characters (and no interaction between Vee and Marie at all). What recriminations existed across the entire book were short. In fact, there was an overall lack of drama in what few confrontations occurred. The fall-out with Marie was barely there at all. Even when Ragon confronted Marie, he just accepted her refusal to explain her behavior and, by the end of the book, she just muddied the water on why she behaved the way she did. Speaking of Ragon, I really don't have a clear picture of why he ended up changing from the man Vee fell in love with. The book made it clear that, while he often used his dominance within the pack, he didn't always do so as thoroughly or negatively as he did after the arrival of Marie. I wanted to understand why someone that was decent enough to have Vee, Eli and Drake love him could become such an unmitigated prick. That was probably the most frustrating thing about this book. Motivations left unclear, behavior left unexplained. Not with everything and not with everyone, but with Marie and Ragon especially. That said, most of the threads were picked up and dealt with. We learn why the scent matches hid themselves and it was an unexpected but fairly reasonable explanation, at least to me. And a forgivable one. We learn why Jasper was so stand-offish. And we learn what Arden and Chase were up to behind Vee's back. (Though I'm still a little unclear on whose shirts they were. I think we're supposed to see them as the MMCs' shirts, but that just leaves me with questions.) There is no great big punishment/vengeance ending for the OG pack. There are some repercussions for them all. I feel like Ragon got some fairly severe ones, though they were certainly earned. They realized what they'd done and what it cost them, and it there was no comfort to be had. Having their POVs in the second book, along with some flashbacks, softened the anger I felt towards them from the first. So by the time their ending was revealed, I wasn't disappointed. Just terribly sad. They deeply hurt someone they loved, repeatedly, and most of it was entirely unintentional. Or at least, not a hurt they reveled in or planned for. (Some exceptions with Ragon being obvious.) Vee still loves them in some fashion for most of the book but their actions squeezed that love until it wasn't big enough for the relationship to survive. That's a deeply painful experience, for everyone. I've been on both sides of it and I can't say which is worse (sans abuse anyway). Knowing you're the cause of the demise, or knowing someone caused you significant pain until your own love broke while theirs didn't. But that's where most of the emotion in this book resides. Still with the relationship between Vee and the OG pack. The new relationship that builds between Vee and her scent matches is steady and rather sweet, and it's most of the book. There's some drama at the end, but it's short-lived and, since it was so very short-lived, felt kind of tacked on. Overall, I liked it. It was imperfect: there were different POVs but all of them felt like they came from the same person (a not uncommon issue with multiple POVs). Some phrases got reused, particularly metaphors. I felt like the book read a little smoother/cleaner than the first. It was more pared down in terms of flowery and descriptive language, but that may hit some people as a negative. Vee got her happily ever after. She got closure from her original pack. It was a satisfying ending, though not the angst-fest of the first. (Also, I'm still freaking sad. Over the "villains." I need to read something that causes less complicated emotions now.) ... show more

  • With Great anticipation
Format: Kindle
With a highly successful first book (lots of buzz on FB, Reddit etc- maybe TT, I wouldn't know...) it puts a lot of pressure for the second book. I've been dissppointed in the past. But this one met my expectations. The first book blew me away emotionally. I hadn't "felt" that much from a book in a long time. I highly anticipated this one. While this second one (and final) of the duet wasn't as emotionally moving as the first for me, it did the psychological work in a healthy way. I got the answers to the questions I wanted- I know that some reviewers wanted more from Ragon's pack and Marie- but I didn't- that wasn't the point of this book- it was supposed to focus on Vee and her finding her forever. Her chosen place in life. The questions and mystery about Marie (and Chase, Arden and Jasper's pack) will continue in future books. It was set up nicely, and leaves some dangling carrots of anticipation that will help me keep these on my radar. With the market flooded with OV books, this duet had enough of a different vibe for it to stand out. I would say that this second book had a more similar feel to others, but it also had to in a sense in order to have a satisfying conclusion. The bond breaking scenerios were different and interesting. Each OV books makes their own rules about who bites who, and how bonds form between OMs, As and Bs. What stands out about this book are the characters- I love Alex's pack. I was so eager to find out who the shirts belonged to that Arden kept bringing Vee- and that character was really interesting. I'm not going to spoil it!! I actually had to stop and read some of the lines out lout to my SO- they were that poignet- and will stick with me. I never highlight as I read- but I feel the need to go back and read this series and highlight those lines that stuck out to me. Maybe its a personal preference, but the metaphors that Finn used, outloud and in his head, were so similar to how I think. Reading this book just clicked with my head. Does that make sense? Yes, I found some inconsistencies, as with a lot of Indie books- there were some places where clothes (shirts were off) were off and then suddently they were on, and then came off again, just small physical scene descrepencies that I caught that jump me out of reading- but I'm also one that pictures the scene as I read it- so its just a habit of mine to catch things like this. I didn't take a star away, though. To me, the stars are about the story and the quality and depth of the writing- not editing. This first story was Vee's destruction, this book was Vee's recovery and rebuilding. This book was full of hope and healthy healing- and accepting the consequences of one's actions. Its satisfying to me how things shook out with Ragon and his pack- some reviewers called for more angst etc- and maybe it would have been more realistic if Ragon ultimately hadn't broken. But I was fully rooting for Vee in this story, and was super happy that she got what she needed, without left over angst. Also, I just wanted to mention that how she handled foregiveness was beautiful- foregiveness isn't forgetting, its deciding to put it down and accept that it happened and move on. It was a lot for her to carry, and in order for her to move on, she came to the conclusion to foregive- to put it down, so she could focus on her future. It was just deeply satisfying and beautiful. Anyway, I'm in a total reading slump right now. I look forward to the future stories that tie in to this duet. ... show more
