Since its foundation in 1930, CITIZEN has promoted a multi-cultural mindset that fosters excellence and creativity. The very name of the brand conveys a deep respect toward craftsmanship and considered as familiar by citizens the world-over. So as a “citizen” of the world, we bear the responsibility to help cultivate a culture of positive change and on-going evolution through our craft. We take that mission seriously and steadfastly welcome what the future may bring. As a true manufacture d’horlogerie, CITIZEN integrates a comprehensive manufacturing process from creating individual components to a watch’s final assembly. It’s an artisan’s approach to watch making based on pushing forward the boundaries of technology and leveraging our experience toward exploring new possibilities. One pivotal technological breakthrough was the development of a light-driven watch. CITIZEN pioneered this engineering innovation well ahead of other watch manufacturers as early as 1976, which led to the launch of the highly acclaimed Eco-Drive in 1995. Utilizing electrical power converted from virtually any light source, this extraordinary innovation changed forever the way watches could be powered. Eco-Drive eliminated the need to ever replace batteries, which made it especially beneficial to areas where such specialist batteries were not obtainable. This leveled the field for citizens of virtually every country to be able to experience unrestricted joy of wearing and using a CITIZEN watch. The product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty,” remains a constant motivation for us to merge cutting- edge technology with perfection of design beauty, which as a consequence inspires people to strive to be their best at any time. CITIZEN launches a new campaign in collaboration with Wieden+Kennedy, Better Starts Now. This is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. It was clear from the onset of this project that we are dedicated to this ideal…not to the past but to the present, and all the way we can improve it. To help communicate this belief to the world we have created a new global CITIZEN brand movie, brand identity and brand website that represents out Better Starts Now philosophy. • Wonderful Watch so Far!
I'm a little afraid to write a review for this watch as the Seiko self winding watch I bought about a year ago stopped working shortly after I wrote a glowing review. As others have said, this IS a beautiful watch. I love the dark blue dial and the gold frame around the dial. The hands and "numbers" on the face of the watch are also gold. And, I like that I don't have to replace the battery. The battery watches I have had always seemed to conk out at the worst times. I agree with the reviewer who wrote that it would have been much more convenient if the instructions had been included IN the box. My box had a card in it that said the instructions were includedl They weren't. Yes, it's nearly impossible to read the numbers needed on the back of the watch so that you can get online and get the directions. I have had the watch nine days and I still haven't done it. Luckily, the watch was working when I took it out of the box. I haven't put it under any lights or done any of the things I have read that you are supposed to do in the reviews. I do try to make sure it's uncovered while on my arm. I wear it at night too. I take it off only to shower and cover it with something so it doesn't get steamed. I had a beautiful watch that was ruined when I left it uncovered in a small bathroom while I took a shower. I have a larger than average wrist--I usually have to get bracelets of 7-1/2 inches rather than seven inches. However, this watch has a slightly loose fit on my wrist--exactly the way I like it. I want a watch that slides around on my arm a little like a bracelet does. If you have an average or small wrist--or like the watch to stay in one place you will need to get links removed by a jeweler or watch repairer. My dad who recently died at 94-1/2 years loved watches. He had many very nice watches, but he prized his Citizens Eco-Drive watches. Maybe because he got such a good deal on them--he loved a bargain. But I heard the story of how he bought those watches many times and how wonderful they are. That's what got me looking at the Citizen Eco-Drive watch. For now, I am very pleased. If I have any problems I promise I will be back to change my review. I changed my review when the Seiko watch was giving me fits and I will change it for this watch review if necessary. Oh, and I also agree that the date feature is almost useless unless you are eagle-eyed. I didn't buy the watch for that feature, but someone who does want to know the date might not be happy. ... show more

  • Gorgeous watch!
I had been looking for a watch with a blue dial for a while and researched many of them. I found the perfect watch! What I love...the size of the dial is perfect for me, not too small or large, it looks substantial without being bulky or oversized, the gold over the silver and blue shines and really stands out, it is a Citizen Eco, will never need batteries and it's just gorgeous! The best feature is the blue color...it's really blue, not so dark that you wonder if it's black. I compared this watch to the Seiko SUT224 which is also very pretty but a tiny bit smaller, less substantial looking and the blue was darker and not as pretty. The price between the two is comparable and the quality equal but the Citizen just made me so happy! ... show more

  • Too early to tell, but some helpful notes about charging
I just received this watch in the post yesterday. It's truly a gorgeous watch, and hefty in terms of weight. It is charging for 40 hours in the natural light of my windowsill until it is fully charged. When it arrived, none of the movements were ticking/moving. I thought perhaps it was totally discharged, but discovered this morning that the crown had been pulled out, stopping all movement. This watch arrived without any instruction manual or other material to help identify model #, serial #, and movement caliber, all of which you will need to both register it and to download the PDF instructions on how to operate/charge/set time and date. The information for model # is of course on the order from amazon. The movement caliber and serial numbers are on the back of the case in the tiniest print ever. You'll need a really small magnifying glass to discern, unless you have had corrective lens eye surgery in which case, that seems to help. Per the helpful CR at Citizens Watch . com, charging indoors is with an incasdescent light at 20 inches for 72 hours, Fluorescent light at 6” and no stipulations at all for LED lights. Otherwise, I am liking the 'look' but maybe not so much the size of the date-box, which is really small and hard to see, and it would be more efficient to include all the instructions WITH the watch. (take note amazon!) I will amend once I have used this for a while. ... show more

  • Absolutely love this watch
This is my second Citizen Eco-drive watch purchased through Amazon. The reason for the second purchase was only because after 4 years of constant wearing, I lost my watch. After going 5 months without a watch and having to constantly rely on looking at a mobile device I came across this watch. It really is a beautiful watch. I have thin wrists and knew I would have to have several (2) links removed from the band. This was no problem as I simply took it to a jeweler (I don't trust myself to do this but I am sure is very easy to do). The hands on the watch are basically white/gold making it so easy to see (does not "glow-in-the-dark) and like most watches the calendar is tiny but then if I don't know the date I am in big trouble. The edges of the band are slightly beveled which is a very nice effect, watch has a nice weight to it and the fact that I know I never have to replace a battery is why I again purchased an Eco-drive watch. I feel it can be worn with jeans or when dressed up. Just a great watch from a very reliable manufacturer. ... show more
