  • Enough smoke for air flow check
I do refrigeration and got this to check for air curtains interruption in a case. It’s not a lot of smoke but enough to see what I need to see. More than I thought it would do honestly. It’s really easy to use and a lot less obnoxious the a smokie. It does small puffs, not a constant stream but it’s pretty thick smoke ... show more

  • Works very well.. . . . But the cartridges......
Edit: I've stared at this useless tool in my box for years now. It does work great. But the cartridges dry out super fast. I didn't have that many uses on the tool and the cartridge in it and my spare both didn't work. (I kept the plastic cap on both) They cost too much to be useless... Original review: Purchased for commercial use. Great product, easy to use. Shows airflow well. I also use it to test fire alarms,( as long as there is no direct breeze). Caring company cares deeply about their product and service. ... show more

  • Works great in most situations.
As an industrial hygienist I typically used chemical smoke tubes to suss out air flow. I got this recently and and it is way more convenient than breaking open those expensive one and done glass smoke tubes. This will be my go to now, BUT I will also keep my tubes around for times when I need the smoke to be more voluminous. Thats my only con, I sometimes need thicker clouds but 90% this is adequate. It is also a much better system and build than the similar product out there that requires loading a liquid rather than this which uses a no mess cartridge. ... show more

  • Good for pinning down air leaks
This thing is quite nifty. I've had issues with vapor intrusion and odors that I suspected was coming in from degraded window framing in my apartment but couldn't pin it down. With this I was able to blow a bunch of puffs around the corners and edges around the window and found some obvious airflows that I wouldn't have noticed otherwise. I like the overall design and that it uses an (apparently) solid cartridge instead of a liquid. Since you can hold it at any angle I was able to blow smoke from different directions at a suspected leak, like when I wanted to get a better idea of whether the smoke was moving because I just blew it in that direction, or whether a current was actually pushing it. The LED light was more useful than I thought. It helps see the smoke a bit better in many cases, so I just keep it on the whole time I'm using it. Sometimes it might help to have a separate very bright flashlight too though. The bellows system also lets you have a lot of control over how much smoke comes out. I found that it was best to not squeeze hard or fast, but rather gently. If you squeeze it too fast, the smoke obviously comes out faster, which also causes extra turbulence so it's harder to see any subtle airflows. Also squeezing really fast makes the smoke come out more "diluted" so it's harder to see it anyway. With short gentle puffs and you get thicker streams of smoke which are easier to follow and actually last a lot longer. The cartridge seems to last a good while. I wasn't keeping track but I'd guess I have at least made a couple hundred puffs and it shows no sign of slowing down. The description says around 1000 pufs so I'd believe it. I will say the volume of smoke isn't huge, its not like a fog machine or anything. So if you need to find a leak over a really large area there might better options. This is probably best where you have a bunch of specific spots you want to check, at least for my use case. ... show more

  • Safe for indoor use, no odor
Great for finding vacuum leaks on scientific equipment. "Smoke" doesn't bother people or affect any other equipment. Simple to use

  • Meh
It’s just alright. I can make use of it, but barely. If you’re trying to use this to map airways for an HVAC unit, for example, then don’t buy it. The amount of smoke it release is simply not enough. Thins out super quick and thus becomes invincible. I just use it for establishing drafts on flues and 70% furnaces. I don’t use it for checking for duct leaks unless it is to pinpoint the source. Over a large area you can’t use it for that because, again, it dissipates too fast. Thermal camera for that. ... show more
