For outside mount, shade should be 4 - 6 wider than window frame, shade length should be at least 2 longer than the window length for better coverage.

My 5 yr old was KILLING MY BLINDS !! then I thought back to when i was 5 everyone had shades !! - of course when I was 5 shades weren't like 40 bux a pop so i was a little sketchy about the price. Bought one to "test" - went in easy peasy- a very snug 32 inch fit- so the box don't lie!! AND the metal hardware has plastic covers that slide/pop off - so removing the blind is possible in snug spots- I went and bought 5 more - they def keep the light out !! - less drafty( old house) -noticeably gets warmer faster/maintains heat better in the room when using the space heater too - they look sharp- fit nice- glad i got them ... show more

    • Well worth the money but a little cheaply made

Well worth the money, as advertised, and does the job! I bought 2 of these for different windows and the measurements are definitely accurate. The thickness of the blind fabric itself is reasonable and it's opaque (not at ALL see-through). I will have to see about thermal insulation as I've only had these during winter months and cannot unfortunately attest to how well they block out heat in the sunny California summer in my sun-facing window. I do think they could've put a little more money into the quality and smoothness of the retraction mechanism - when you use the adjustable metal ball pulley to raise or lower the blinds, it's a bit rolly/cheap feeling and not a very smooth transition. Still, it goes up and down just fine and doesn't get stuck. I wish they offered a light beige or taupe color as well. I'd recommend these and think they are fantastic given how affordable they are. ... show more

Able to install 2 of these side by side with a little room to spare for rollers. Very minimal color and design, I didn’t even recognize the difference at first. Pleasantly surprised by how well these blackout the home office, will be useful in summer. You can choose which side to install cord which is useful. Picture taken at 4:30 bright sunlight and snow reflecting. Light comes through a little between them but the room is still pitch black. Only thing that could be improved is the noise from rolling the shade…it’s not quiet haha, and I wish there was charcoal grey for this style/size but silver looks good too. ... show more

    • Take care in sizing!

Work’s really well but trust the manufacturers measurement exactly! We had to maneuver a lot to make it fit (we guessed there might be a little wiggle room—there wasn’t). If your window opening is 46” order 45” blind if the opening is 45.5 you will have no problem with a 46” wide blind. Also a caution—the mechanism to roll the shade up and down is a thin but study looped chain. I know louvered blind manufacturers have gone away from looped cords that could be a choking hazard—this could do the same. I suppose one could cut the looped chain and it would still function well for 40-50” tall windows though I haven’t chosen to do that yet. ... show more

    • The shades are great (...but the screws supplied are worthless)

Well let's get all the good out of the way, these shades are 100% accurate to the width dimensions ordered and were "easy" to install. These look and feel really great if you're trying to get some quick/ easy/ less expensive blackout shade options in one room or a couple of windows. Some issues during the installation are: 1. the cheap screws provided got stripped very easily, I had two of them strip on me while trying to install, but ultimately got rid of them and just used some higher-quality ones from the hardware store. 2. the bead chain is NOT adjustable, so unless you have a window that is 72" in Height, the chain will droop down past your window sill. You'll need to get a pair of specific pliers (ball chain joining & splicing pliers) if you need to adjust the length of the bead chain. ... show more

    • Better than Lowe’s and Home Depot for the same price

I first tried roller blackout shades from Lowe’s and Home Depot, but their most economical option (for about same price as these) were cordless spring tension shades. I was not a fan at all with these as they were hard to adjust and ended up bending the cheap mounts that came with them. I found these corded ones and decided to give them a try. My windows are 28.5” and 46.5”. They say to get the smaller option for inside mount, and since they can be mounted to the top of the window sill, that would work, however, there would be a larger gap on the side of the shades, as opposed to an exact fit. I ended up getting the next size up (29” and 47”) and I cut 1/2” off of them with my miter saw. The caps on the sides can be removed when cutting. After they’re cut, just place the caps back and voila. I did use a new blade so the cut can be as smooth as possible. Super happy with how they came out and the quality is great.
