At first I lost my optimism as it just wouldn’t lay close to flat after the recommended 24 hr period which I did have weighted. It’s packaged so tightly wound. I postponed my project for another week to give it extra time but it still bounced back to a “softer roll” *my tip is to slightly bend length wise with the seams as opposed to the same roll on opposite side… that causes creases. Once I did that it worked like a charm & could’ve probably made it work much sooner. Like anything else of this nature, you have a lil trial and error however I took some time to plan my strategy before any cutting or taping. Tools I used were very basic; measuring tape, long straight edge, heavy scissors & a razor knife. It does splice together nicely due to the “rubbery” texture so it’s a lil forgiving. Depending on how big of an area you have, you may have to cut out an end/s (length wise) to splice seamlessly. *I recommend doing your layouts & cuts before you start the adhesions. The seems are naturally much easier to cut through with a razor knife & the thicker “wood grain” the shop scissors worked better. I also purchased a couple edging strips to make the end results more polished. Once I had it installed I was impressed how nice it looked. Time will tell how it stands up to the elements but so far I’m pleased. I almost hated it & gave up but I’m glad I saw it through for now.

I have a 1950s aluminum jon boat I am fixing up with a plywood deck for fishing. I am using this decking mat over the plywood. It will give me a better surface to stand on with more cushion and less chance of slipping when wet. Once I get a template of the plywood cut, it will be a simple matter to trace the shape on the back of the carpet, peel and stick. I will have a greatly improved boot without investing a crazy amount of money.

This EVA foam will be used to create some buffer for areas near our archery target. I cannot speak to the adhesive since it wont be applied. Draped over the fence it is intended to slow arrows that might otherwise damage the wood. Overall feels like a reliable foam with minor cautions. It provides a decent thickness. As to be expected there is a little bit of chemical smell but it’s not overwhelming. It is very important to review the instructions. The first thing is that the flooring needs to be weighted down and flattened overnight before it can be used. The length seems about right, my tape measure was not long enough and the end curl prevented and accurate measurement. The texture is not slippery but I do wonder if the texture will trap more dirt. The instructions imply that it will stain if left dirty for too long with strong colors like red wine.

Easy installation instructions are included. This sturdy Marine flooring has several nice features. PROS: * It’s important to re-roll and tie the flooring into a “reverse roll” for at least a week before beginning your project. This will flatten it out, and allow for flat placement on your floor. * This 6mm thick high quality closed cell foam provides non-slip coverage inside my boat on the floors. * It is available in several different widths and colors. It provides the attractive appearance of “teakwood” flooring. * The cushioning and shock absorbing features raise the comfort level inside the boat significantly. * Easy to cut and custom fit with scissors. Be sure you first make a paper template to follow, for high quality installation and appearance. * I have chosen to install the EVA without engaging the sticky back. That way it can be removed from the boat for easier cleaning and stain removal. CONS: * Difficult to keep clean in certain spots, as in the galley and in front of the fridge. A good product, despite noted drawback. Enjoy! Highly Recommended.

I recently refurbished my 18ft powerboat. It originally had carpet on the deck and I wanted something better so got this. First, I like the look – appears to be the teak-colored wood strips you see on high-end vessels, for a fraction of the installation work and cost. It’s practical as well in that it tends to shed water, and since it’s foam, there’s some give to it as you walk around, often on bare feet. I stripped off the tattered carpet and repaired a couple of soft spots in the plywood decking. I laid this flooring out without peeling off the backing, dry-fit it and cut it roughly to size, leaving an inch or so at the edges for final trimming. I installed one section or strip at a time. To improve the adhesion, I painted carpet glue on the plywood with a wide brush, peeled the backing off the foam flooring as I went and pressed it down. I used a razor knife with a new blade for the exact trim at the edges. Then I used a rubber roller to make sure it was pressed down. Looks great! Only time will tell how well it bears up in sun and weather, but so-far-so-good.

The adhesive gets worn too easily at edges to get full marks, but overall it seems to be pretty durable material. It is also pretty comfortable under both shoed and bare feet, so the only real question comes is if it has longevity. In the short term it has held up really well under regular traffic, but if it fails or falls apart before at least a year, I may revise my rating.
