  • Handy for small jobs, just know what to expect
This is a die-cast aluminum vise. It is not machined from billet and it is not ductile iron. That means it is very light duty. Best to know that coming into it. Something solid or iron costs more than double what this does and is not necessarily good for all the same jobs. Because it is an unmachined casting, it has draft. Draft is the ~2° angle on all surfaces that allow the casting to be ejected from the mold. This is why it will not firmly hold thin parallel things like a piece of paper. If you need something with 90° jaws you might want to consider spending more on an iron vise like this: https://www.amazon.com/HHIP-3900-1730-Grooved-Drill-Opening/dp/B00E0NCSQW. The casting wall thickness is about 2.5 mm (.100"). All pieces are "hollow" except the rounded bit the clamping screw threads into. I briefly considered filing the jaws to be more square but I expect that would make them too weak. For now I expect to use the casting as-is. The round plastic lugs that screw onto the jaws are one of the things that make this vise useful to me. Those can hold round objects like a dial-indicator or watch when you're taking it apart for service. It's also coming in handy for holding irregularly-shaped objects for inspection and photography under my USB microscope. The movable jaw is retained on the clamping screw by the end of the M4 retaining screw, accessible from underneath. That screw extends into a slot in the clamping screw and pulls back the jaw when you retract the clamping screw. On mine, that screw was a little long and gave the clamping screw a little "tight spot" in its rotation. I pulled it out and gave the end a few licks with a small file and that problem was solved. Best to do this right away, before turning the clamping screw, otherwise the burrs formed on the M4 screw will gall the threads in the aluminum on the way out. I turned down the end of the screw a little so it would not bear on the groove and mar the threads, but I'm not sure that's strictly necessary. There shouldn't be any real force on the threads to just pull the loose jaw. Pressure on the jaw is effected by the end of the clamping screw, not the side of the retaining screw. Overall, I find this useful and am satisfied. Being light, small, and able to hold round and irregular workpieces for inspection and assembly work is all I'm going to ask of this and it does those fine. • Nice idea, poor execution
I was looking for a small moveable vise/clamp for working on small parts. This Mini Jaw Bench Clamp looked ideal until I realized that the jaws are not able to close completely. They get to approximately 1/16 of an inch and stop, which means they cannot clamp thin objects, unlike a real vise. The moveable jaw has rotational play, which means that a small object will cause the jaws not to be parallel. This last is not a problem, so far. The 4 screws and plastic pieces give the device the ability to hold cylindrical objects without crushing them. If the manufacturer fixes the jaw closure, I would give this device at least 4 stars. ... show more

  • Decent clamping device for the price
What you see is what you get on this one. It's pretty much just a simple clamp for your drill press. It does the job but don't look for much precision. I'm seeing complaints about the moving jaw being allowed to pivot on the threaded rod but I really don't see the downside on this. You want the moving jaw to conform to your workpiece so it gets even clamping pressure across the entire clamping surface. The jaw needs to pivot for this to happen. For the price, I think this is a decent clamping solution. ... show more

  • Variable Configuration, Lots of Possibilities
This is a convenient small Jaw Bench Clamp. Variable configurations make many clamping configurations possible. The clamp I received had some mold flash left in one of the mount holes, but a few swipes with a rat tail file was an easy fix, and for the price I can't complain. All in all this is a nice holding device for small work and hobby use. ... show more

  • Not For Watch Work
My husband got this for holding watch movements for watch mod-ing, but it doesnt hold things securely. It's "supremely wobbly" which makes fixing watches pointless. The jaws dont close all the way either, nor will they stay at the same height, so whatever theyreh holding will be slanted. Overall it didnt meet his needs, and isn't great for precise work. ... show more

  • Keep looking
There are a couple major problems here. First, the jaws do not close completely. Second, the jaws do not remain parallel. The screw mechanism that closes the moveable jaw, is attached to that jaw in such a way that it allows rotational play. This is not a tool for precision work. This thing needs major reworking. ... show more

  • Lightweight, small vice
This is a small, lightweight vice but it's good for small projects like jewelry. The build quality is average but it should serve for most simple projects.

  • drill vise
Cheaply made but for the price it will do some basic edge drilling jobs I have to do once in awhile.
