  • A poorly conceived hodgepodge of good ideas badly implemented
The good: The waxed canvas is nice. It increases durability and provides some level of protection from the elements. There are plenty of pockets. Then the confusion starts to set in. There are nice snaps riveted in, but it's 2 male on the top and 2 female on the bottom. So they don't snap together. Well, surely that's just mine that got made wrong, right? No. They are only for decoration and providing hard bits of metal in the corners. Well, there's a belt with buckle, that'll hold it shut, right? Well... the belt material is not up to the task of holding the roll closed under any adverse conditions. But it holds the knives securely anyway, right? Well... the stitching is exposed on the inside of those plentiful pockets. So if you keep your tools hair poppingly sharp, they are going to be seam poppingly sharp too. I got frustrated with it. If you have any sort of habits with knife or tool rolls, you might get frustrated too. If you've never used a knife or tool roll, this one will get you started and make you appreciate a good knife roll when you finally experience one. ... show more

  • Heavy duty
I actually got this for my son for his tools he needs for work, not knives. It works ok for the tools but the pockets are too flat. I think this would work great as it is marketed as a knife bag. There are wide and narrow pockets along with smaller, less deep pockets and longer, deeper pockets so it would fit a variety of knives. However, once you put tools/knives inside of it, it got too fat for us to roll it up and fasten the belt. I also think the belt is not a very efficient closure. While it would keep the pouch closed, a belt is harder to close and open so a strong magnetic clasp might be a better choice. The fabric is nice and it is lined so it is thicker and seems pretty sturdy. ... show more

  • It fits my needs
Our knife block is completely full with the knives we use everyday. I needed a safe place to store some older knives that aren't used as often. The Chef’s Knife Roll bag seems to work fine for my purpose. The waxed canvas fabric on the outside resembles the fabric used for cowboy duster coats. The leather doesn't look like real cowhide. Maybe it's pleather; I can't be certain. The bag is similar to mechanics' tool rolls with which I am very familiar. Overall, it's satisfactory, but I have a couple of issues with the bag. The snaps on the corners don't appear to serve any function that I can see. The belt on the outside simply looks cheap. It's the first thing you notice when you look at the rolled up bag. The belt is not nicely finished. Getting the prong of the buckle through the holes in the belt requires some effort, and the buckle itself is a cheap-looking stamped affair. The Amazon listing says that the bag is resizable. I guess that simply means you can fold it over if your knives are shorter than the bag is tall. That's what I did for the closed bag picture. I am not a travelling chef, so I can't evaluate the bag for durability or practicality as a professional might. ... show more

  • Doesn't seem like it will hold up for very long
Looked like a nice knife bag. Once I got it, the material is stiff, feels mostly like leather, but the strap to close it, is not leather, it stretches way too much. If you have really sharp knives, you will cut the threads very easily putting in and taking out the knives, which I did with several of mine. You can't use the end slots as items will fall out when the bag is rolled closed. Even normal length knives did not fit well, shorter knives were better. This might work if you were storing less used knives, like say special ones for carving pumpkins for Halloween, or to take some nice knives to a friend or family's house for Thanksgiving. This bag will not hold up for daily use for long, or even weekly use for work if you only brought your knives home on the weekend. You will need to spend a lot more on something of real, thick, leather for long term use, and not something cheap like this bag for frequent use. ... show more

  • Nice starter roll, but it has flaws
For beginner chefs or anyone who needs a roll bag for their knives/cutlery, this isn't a bad way to start. The material is sturdy and practical (it's a soft velvet-like material on the inside and canvas on the outside that's oil-covered, but I didn't get that impression at all. My biggest grips is that all the pockets are not fully useable. If you fill your bag and try to use the smaller two pockets on the edge, the material is very close to the edge and if you add anything besides something VERY narrow you will not be able to roll the bag fully. Start with this bag but keep in mind it has some limitations. ... show more

  • Extremely poorly designed.
This unit is made of nice combination of vinyl and a velvety material. Not sure is the velvet is really the right material but will be ok. The. Ad part about this is that the thing is quite stiff. The worst is that when it rolls up and belted, one end is still open so the items could still slip out. There should be a softer flap to close up the open went where the pointed ends of the knives will be. This unit also has two sets of snaps but they are placed in the direction that they serve absolutely no purpose. Not sure why this thing is so unintelligibly designed. Zero star if I could give it. ... show more

  • standard - works well
this is a nice standard knife roll bag. It is stitched well. Has a nice feel. Rolls without any issues. Has 6 slots to put your knives in. Is not the best or the cheapest I have seen. Medium grade, but nice. Outside is water-resistant swaide-like material. Inside pockets is a nice flex-like leather. The tie holds as well, Had to look again at the price. I would say for this type of bag it is on the medium to higher price for its size, but still not a bad price. All in all, it is a good chef bag. I have no real negatives. ... show more

  • It's okay...
It seems fairly protective for and against knives, but at the same time it seems a bit flimsy and thin. I mainly needed this to transport a slicer I use for slicing brisket (but it's not a brisket slicer; it's basically a sujihiki), and it could probably stab right through this knife roll if it gets knocked the wrong way. It rolls and closes a weird awkwardly. The belt does hold it down so it's not so bad, but I've seen some more secure designs out there. I also wish there was a carrying strap or handle or something but that's not a huge deal. ... show more
