I'm a pastry chef by trade, so having a good thermometer and a cake tester is essential! I'm glad to report this one has been great! Cake testers have two parts: a small metal pick, and a little handle at the end for use. This is the same, but it comes with a little holder and a nicer rubberized handle. Meaning this one is much harder to lose! Its also a good size, nice length but not too long, fits in my chef whites pocket perfectly. The better handle part is great when your in a rush and just need to grab it and go. It's also more sturdy then the typical cheap versions. The metal pick is a little thicker than most, the handle is not too large but perfect for fingers to grab. Sure beats finding a tooth pick to test. Remembered my mom had one and decided to get one myself. Works great and like the storage sleeve. Could be subjective, but I think it gives me more consistent results.

I didn't realize these are still made. I was previously using toothpicks to test baked goods to see if done, and this is a wonderful alternative to using toothpicks. This is a cake tester. It tests cakes. And pies. It works very well as it is a little metal stick that you poke into a cake or a pie to test its doneness, and to this extent it is exactly what it appears to be. If you need a cake tester, this is one.
